Gen. McMaster articulates clearly the now-traditional post-NATO-expansion view of Russian objectives and actions. China's objectives are different than Moscow's objectives. Stem from different historical and resource-driven considerations. Educated common sense, something that has been sorely missing at the priority-setting leadership level. This talk was given when Obama was President and Ash Carter was SecDef. It will be interesting to see how Gen. McMaster deals with the realities, now that he is being given the chance to sit back in his chair, take his pen and throw it up in the air and make it stick to the ceiling tiles.... This is his real job.... Thinking through the tough stuff while looking like he is doing not much at all. Tell McMaster that it is his job to make Gen. Kellogg do all the work... And that if Kellogg actually believes he is doing all the work, that is the measure of McMaster's success....

THERE IS AN ECONOMIC MACHINE OR ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ABOUND. It has been around since about 2012. One of its main goals, or its main goal, is to keep US inflation/CPI at 0-3%. It established military safeguards in Asia and Eastern Europe from 2012-2015 using the Russian, Turkish, Syrian, Chinese, and North Korean militaries. This was to avoid US aggression after it infiltrated the US economy via dampening inflation/CPI. That is why even 3-5 years after the 2008 recession, inflation figures were so abnormally low. Then in 2015, given the US' 8 year recessionary cycle, it propped up asset prices, including the US stock market. Close observers of the US stock market can attest to this as it seemed to be tumbling but was abruptly halted. Inflation in 2015 was also becoming abnormally low or negative, so propping up asset prices made sense. Come 2017 Trump was placed in office. I, family, friends, and coworkers began to feel ill starting 2018, just as inflation neared the inflation ceiling. So spending was funneled to less inflationary avenues like medical care, or made less. Then from 2018-2019 Trump instituted tariffs. Right as inflation rose to as high as 2.5% in early 2020 COVID-19 struck dampening demand. The recession in 2020 if you notice was quick or short. It makes sense as it was relatively controlled via the tariffs cutting off a lack in demand by naturally lessing supply. Plus, COVID-19 mainly kills the elderly or those most frail, generally the least productive in society.

personal priorities? you do realize that civilian control of the military is written into the Constitution right? What is there to gain for him personally if he does lead the US military to defeat ISIS. Rather what are you to gain for opposing his world views which are largely based on very accuracies geopolitical realities.

None of it is part of any official strategy. Half of the language he uses has been created in the think tank community, not some dark classified DoD basement. Furthermore, none of it is specific enough to do any damage even if it were our national strategy. The truth is...the US has no long term national strategy, and never had one.

He talks about 'restricting movement' in certain domains around China which basically translates in to expansion US hegemony. Talking about 'China engaging in the largest theft of intellectual property in history' is a strawman argument. Its like saying Israel was the cause of 9/11 and then turning around and punishing Israel by forcing it to give back Gush Katif. This guy is fullbred ingrained military sociopathic agenda of world wide domination by the US military while at the same time painting a picture to the US citizens of how scary the world is and how much 'we need them' to 'protect us' from 'the bad guys'. As for Korea? Look up Lt General Hodges with relation to the Korean war. The US was the key cause that the Koreas split.

Apparently you missed the big point he was making which is even if we never make bad policy decisions, that question (political) is irrelevant to this problem (what we should do when the Army is given those missions). The Army doesn't make national security policy decisions. It executes its part in them.

It's not ironic, unlike Obama, Trump can accept opinions besides his own within his administration. As a decision maker it makes perfect sense to draw inputs from as broad a spectrum of perspectives as possible. Mattis doesn't have the same worldview as McMaster, but they compliment each other.

We spent 35 years developing the F-22 and F-35, and a couple trillion dollars to do so. We have about 120 F-22s, and there will be no more. We were supposed to have 2000 of them. And the Air Force just announced that we're basically throwing the F-35away so we can get more 4++ gen fighters because the F-35 is too expensive to fl, maintain, and arm. And we were supposed to have 2000 of those, too. Then talk to me about the Zumalt, where we were supposed to get 33, but ended up with three. Then about the Littoal Combat ships. They're falling apart in 10 years because apparently the Navy didn't realize that salt water does Bad Things to aluminum. At the V-22, that took 30 years to get into service. At the B-2, a plane that cost three times its weight in gold when first built. We have what? 24 of them? How many HUNDREDS were we supposed to have? When you tell me we need to spend more, I will point at the procurement process as it currently stands and ask you what the HELL we're doing with THAT money. Fix procurement. The days of unlimited budgets and generational development cycles are over. We need to be able to MASS PRODUCE weapons, not lovingly craft them from artisan sources. Because a Russian air base was knocked out for several days by Syrian insurgents using drones that you can buy on the interwebs. And they have instruction manuals on how to build rockets from standard construction equipment. And you better DAMNED sure be able to fight when the Russians or Chinese pull a Gaius Balthar on us and brick our electronics in a cyber attack.

Crimea was historically part of Russia. What Khrushchev did was illegal and now a historical wrong has been righted. If Russian volunteers entered eastern Ukraine it was only in response to KIev aggression. I know you Ukrainians get upset, but the fact is that the idea of a state called "Ukraine" is an artificial construct. It never was a true state. Look at its history. This is why Ukrainians are so defensive with their false nationalism. They realize the whole thing is a sham.
