I actually still fly a Classic -200 here in the US. Non airline. I used to fly -200/-300s, L1011 and DC-8s all over the world using the Litton 92. It’s a great box and a long as you keep it updated it’s a very competent navigator. I have flown most of the modern glass jets too, B777, 75, 76, 73, A320. The very busy STARs and DPs of today are tough to fly without a modern FMC, especially in Europe. Young controllers don’t understand the limitations of flying older jets without data bases stuffed full of ready to use procedures that can be loaded into an FMC and modified in seconds. Not so with a old system like a Litton 92, Carousel or OmegaI. I carry an old LTN-92 manual that I have tabbed for quick reference. Your tutorial on the 92 is really outstanding.

Awesome, the greatest tutorial on the LTN92, it’s like you invented the unit.

Ha, thank you very much. I really did read the entire manual, made a list of all I wanted to cover, and went through it all. I realise it will be too long for most, but perhaps once folk know the basics and want to delve deeper, the video awaits them too!

I have been waiting for someone to make this type of 'in-depth' tutorial for the LTN-92 system. I'm only about halfway through the flight and have about 5 1/2 pages of notes. It's absolutely brilliant and a great piece of work...thank you very much for all the time and hard work it must have taken to complete. I absolutely love the Felis 747-200, and being able to take advantage of the LTN system will be the icing on the cake for CTP flights. I just wonder how many times I will have to watch the flight before I actually get sufficiently proficient to be able to fly a sector without having to resort to a 'catch-up' watch of the I-Pad. Thanks again.

Excellent tutorial of LTN 92. In depth and informative! I was looking for a good tutorial video for months! Thank you very much for the amazing work. Can you please index your video to the different parts based on the different functionalities of LTN 92 that you explained so we can jump easily to the specific topic instead of scanning the entire video ? That would be awesome !

Just watched the whole thing and it's been one of the best tutorials of anything I've ever seen. Much appreciation for your hard work and time. Surprisingly there are a lot of functionality in this unit and quite capable for the era. Now, if only it could do holds. :) VOR based holds are not really an issue but how would you swing fix based ones? Maybe the CRS page "fly track" option would help?

You have a discrepancy in longitude between INS1&2 because you entered the wrong data i(W115 05.0 instead of W115 09.0)n INS 1. I never used the LTN but we had Carrousel Delco IV on the DC8 and DC10 I flew as Flight Engineer. It was of primary importance to double check the position you entered in those INS before pressing ENT. It was a part of my job to enter those positions and the pilots once again checked after me before entering WPT. Anyway you did a very good work on this exhaustive tutorial and because now I'm a bit lazy, I will use it as a guide instead of reading the book(I read to many technical books all of my life🤣). I would like to add that there is an another method much more precise than method 2 you used. Simply use the LAT & LONG graduations around the 10-9 chart in the case you don't have gates positions for example on some remote airports (I'm talking of those days of course). Regards

Wow! Many thanks for your comment. You guys truly flew in the golden age. I'm here simming the gold old days, dreading every airac cycle update, and how many more old school beacons and approaches are then scrubbed. That double check on INS positions makes so much sense, and answers a question I've had in my mind ever since I first saw it. Thanks so much for stopping by

I still know the original INS where you had to enter the long coordinates. this version with the database and the waypoints, on the other hand, is already progressive.

It's great that the 747 in question here, has the option for both. The "CIVA INS" I think they call it (in the sim here anyway). Both are a lot of fun, and a blast from the past, and I hope we can continue to simulate, as the modern fly by wire, automatically managed from wheels up to touchdown, is a little boring.

could you make a tutorial just for putting the departure stars and transitions and ILS approach starts please? or if there already a tutorial for that, may I have a link or also an IGS like for kai tak, thanks
@gameswithbrains
@gameswithbrains Год назад
Hi thanks for your comment. Unfortunately SIDs, STARs and their transitions are slightly ahead of this thing... The only way to do SIDs and STARs, is to go through the charts ahead of time, get the precise names of the waypoints (or create custom ones where they don't exist) and then follow them laterally using the system, and be super SUPER focused on following the speed/height restrictions manually (using speed hold / vertical speed etc). To be clear, there is no way you can load any procedures into the LTN92, you can just fake it, with a lot of effort and task saturation!
