China had much cheaper and more efficient writing medias than the west. And Every Chinese dynasty has a department in the court to record, collect and edit history while the European history mostly simple records written by poets or priest because it cost too much to write.
@@alanxu1238 what are you talking about? Greek and Roman record taking was the best in the ancient world. We have entire speeches and conversations and vote counts from thousands of years ago still. European history records were absolutely not simple. Unless you mean the parts outside Greece and Italy, in which case there was next to no record taking until the middle ages.
I mean with all ancient history a lot of what we’re seeing is probably propaganda. I’m not sure how to express this right but the information we actually have is probably a mere fraction of what happened because the texts that were inconvenient for a given dynasty were simply destroyed or suppressed.

I think we need to also remember that Lu Buwei's supposedly being Ying Zheng's biological father is probably something written by later historians to discredit Ying Zheng's legitimacy and should be taken with a pinch of salt.

I think most historians consider Ying Zheng the son of Zi Chu, not Lu Buwei. Also Zi Chu's name was actually Yiren. The name Zi Chu was given to him by Lady Huayang when she adopted him, as she was from the royal line of the Chu state. Qin royal history had a precedent for a Dowager mother of the King having a politically uninvolved toy boy. Well to be fair this was based on histories by Sima Qian who *really* didn’t like the first emperor and merchants. Also Sima Qian lived over 100yrs after Lu Buwei. So naturally he’d write the most scandalous things to discredit them. It is a strongly debated topic

It is because of Lu Buwei's great deeds. Zi Chu also known by his personal Yiren is the youngest out of 20 odd sons of Lord Anguo who later become King Xiaowen of Qin. Zi Chu was sent to Zhao State as a political hostage. Being the son of a low ranking concubine, he had a very low status and was treated as a sort of pariah among the Zhao elite. While everybody regarded him as a dirt, Lu Buwei saw him as a diamond in the rough and decided to invest in him. Lu Buwei was aware that Lord Anguo had no children by his principal wife Lady Huayang. He managed to persuade her to officially adopt Zi Chu as her son and thus making him Lord Anguo's heir. Lord Anguo died after being king for only a year and Zi Chu became King Zhuangxiang of Qin. He appointed Lu Buwei as his prime minister as gratitude.

Lu Buwei's name is recorded in Sima Qian's Shiji (Records of the Grand Historian). Sima Qian is considered one the greatest historian in Chinese history. Because it is written during the Han Dynasty which criticize the Qin Dynasty, the alleged stories can be discounted for. The story of Lu Buwei being Ying Zheng's biological father had been passed around for several generations before Sima Qian put it down in writing. The story is regarded as a mere folklore rather than a historical fact.
@@edwardkay3193 But how accurate is the information regarding the early years of Ying Zheng that Sima Qian obtained before writing it down as he is born about 50 years after the fall of Qin. Premature birth is not widely known among people in the past which lead to misconceptions. Ying Zheng is a very controversial person and had done a lot of cruelty and tyranny which resulted condemnation by future generations. The story of him being the biological son of Lu Buwei is created to condemn him.
I imagine that the Prime Minister had more power to act alone and needed only to rubber stamp some action with the monarch while the Chancellor was more of an assistant that could only act alone in a few areas and relied more on convincing the monarch.
Not proven, it’s rather a myth. The most cited source of Lu Buwei being Ying Zhen’s father is Si Maqian’s book (Shi Ji), which was written a century later. And even in this book, the two chapters, which are dedicated to the life of Lu Buwei and Ying Zhen respectively, had conflicting stories. In the chapter about Lu Buwei, it was written that Ying Zhen’s mother was already pregnant when she was accepted by Zi Chu. But it was not explicitly mentioned whether that was Lu Buwei’s doing or not. And in the chapter about Ying Zhen, it was mentioned that he was the son of Zi Chu and Zhao Ji.
Not noting how historically questionable allegations about Lu Buwei being the father of Qin Shi Huang's child are makes this channel less trustworthy, and makes me want to see videos from it less. Videos can be entertaining and interesting and still be reliable sources.
You presented Ying Zhen as Lv Bu Wei's son like it's a matter of fact, but there is absolutely no proof of it. It was a rumor only because Zhao Ji used to be a servant of Lv Bu Wei. Therefore, thumbs down.
