Seriously don't understand why people are criticizing him for not-enough technique....Eric shows great command of keyboard. Great differentiation of textures by different touch...from brightest aggressive forte to the smooth lyrical sound. Its a very intellectual and unique interpretation that fully deserves its recognition. Playing Prokofiev is not about playing loud or fast guys....a good performance is measured by many attributes.

I think he is mindful and organized, but i cannot agree about 'different' texture. It was pretty much the same texture. Different intensity, different attack, but the texture was kind of dichotomic.

Amadeus Radio I partially agree with you. The texture is not very diverse. However, it might sound way different if he plays on a Steinway lol

This pianist shows great sensitivity. I've have never heard this sonata played more lyrically than in this version. Bravo!

Eric's control of the individual character of the sound of each note he plays reminds me of Cortot.

Eric is perhaps the only young asian pianist that is concerned with creating a musical interpretation, rather than throwing around bravura or cold gray technical flawlessness. He has way more musical personality than Cho and Yundi combined. But it is true that his technique requires development.

Well said of Eric, given that he’s only in his early 20s, no doubt his technique will develop greatly as he matures over the years. Great future for Eric!!😀 So no worries 😌!!!!!!

Well, I don't think Eric lacks technique. It's a matter of his understanding of the piece and the composer. In my opinion this piece should be played with full of brutality.

The final is too slow and quiet. We must have some madness in this. Perhaps a lack of technique ...

Sorry, he does not have enough technique to play this sonata. Don't know how he advanced to the next round with this performance.

Peter Simpson yeah, he has more of a Chopin touch.

Listen to this and Ciobanu. There aren't as much contrasts as in the latter. He will definitely master this over the years. But it's not yet fully ripe for competitions like this.

If you simply watch the remarkable efficiency of his movements and the full sound he achieves, I think it will be apparent that he has as much technique (as if one could quantify an "amount" of it) as anyone could possibly use. I believe your qualm has more to do with his interpretation than with his technique. And this moves into treacherously subjective waters.

He clearly did not play it the way YOU wanted it to be played !! And that's the point!.... besides the tempo indication is precipitato ..... not fast and loud!
