Mammotion LUBA 2 vs LUBA 1 vs YUKA. Battle of the robot Lawn Mower. Take a deep dive with me on robot lawn mowers. I test these Mammotion LUBA and YUKA robot mowers to the max. They are the best robotic mowers on the market and I had to get them. They automatically cut your grass and keep it looking like a golf course. This is everything I could think of to help you decide if a robo mower is right for you. Its a long robotic lawn mower video but I did not want to skip any details. These robotic lawn mowers performed well above my expectation.This was the most fun I have had making a you tube video and that tells you how cool these mowers are. They are FUN!! You really should consider one of these robotic lawn mowers if you have both the money and the grass. LUBA 1 is a great machine and so is YUKA but Luba 2 is the winner in case you are wondering.

I have purchased a Luba 5000 AWD and can honestly say it is absolute junk. It works for a few months and then the latest revs confuse it as it cannot intelligently decipher new satellite information and goes onto a positioning mode and does not leave the charging station after multiple hours of set-up. Luba has no telephone support (UNBELIEVABLE), and their chat line is on hold for 4 hours as this inferior product has so many dissatisfied customers with inoperable units. The chat service is the worst in the robotic business and they have no engineering capabilities. I got better service from 99% of my smart homme devices then this over-hyped neophyte company with no history or pedigree in the mower business. I am an engineer and can do many fixes but after 10 screenshots and 5 app feedbacks ..nada/ziltch from Mammotion. Hey forget about the BS of 2 year warranty as you will probably never get a RMA from them as they are truly a a non-starter for claiming to be a bona-fida mower firm. Great comparison, most useful one I've seen yet. I have one question, my new (quite flat) yard contains different quite narrow paths of grass (like just under 1 meter /3 feet wide). do you think the mapping an mowing of these paths will be ok with Yuka?
@HawaiiDetailing
@HawaiiDetailing 5 месяцев назад
Yes it should. Without seeing the yard that’s a tough claim for me to make. Plan to leave conservative margins along the edges and it runs flawlessly for me.
@kais9196
@kais9196 6 месяцев назад
I was hoping the benefit of the Luba2 camera was to allow close mapping to edges like fences and walls where signal can be low or bad, but allowing it to still get really close to those things without touching, even if the signal is throwing it off and otherwise would make it bump into walls or fences, be great to see this actually tested ? Would you mind trying it out? Eg map super close to a fence or wall in a bad signal area (1inch max away), then see if the camera avoids contact on the nearest border cut, the camera is supposed to prevent contact when the satellite resolution drops in a bad signal area.
@RobotMowerTricks
@RobotMowerTricks 6 месяцев назад
I have a Luba 2 and the software for the camera has a lot of room to improve is that tnice way to put it. But right now, it does not help prevent collision with my house when I map too close. I discovered the same thing this video did, map it with a nice 6" margin makes it run smoother. It still hits the walls though from time to time. But I didn't map perfectly. But the point is the camera is not helping see the wall and avoid it.

I've had a Luba 1 since they first came out. I mow four separate zones. One is 100' x 200'. I mostly use hybrid sonic / bumper obstacle avoidance. I considered a Luba 2 but can't see any reason to spend the money when what I have does the job. I also have some decently heavy tree cover, and rough terrain. I was lazy and mounted the RTD on its supplied pole for easy access. No real problems except for the initial set-up. My iteration of the manual was really terrible but I've heard it has been improved.

I am doing another video soon and will cover this topic. The YUKA adjusts its cutting bed height with a physical adjustment knob on top of the machine. LUBA 1&2 its via the app and could be done with programing zones accordingly although I have not tried it yet. I just did a first cut with the new production model YUKA and it has fantastic cut quality with its floating cutting head. They do create some seemingly large avoidance patterns. However, I thought it didn't really seem to matter in the end because on subsequent passes, as the robots resumed their normal patterns, they would basically cover the parts that had been avoided in the first place. The YUKA actually did a really decent job in the end with that tennis ball. Yes, some weird spinning around, but still... in the end, it would have mowed most of the area around the tennis ball. Did a better job than the LUBA 2, which just ran over the ball. I would think these could be fixed through firmware upgrades though for the LUBA 2, since it too has a camera like the YUKA.

@@HawaiiDetailing Don't know about trees but the Luba2 gets a poor positioning signal in the front of my yard, so it doesn't finish cutting. My RTK/GPS is mounted to a rail on the back of my house on the 2nd floor where a deck will eventually go. It stops cutting so I return it to an area that has line of sight of the RTK. Approximately 10 min later, it's working again. 30 min later, it's sending poor positioning errors again. 45-60min requires charging so I spend all day trying to have a 2k+ robot cut my yard. Sending it back for the Navimow i105n. I'm reading I'll have similar RTK/GPS issues. I'll update you after 5/7.
@Will-2BMorePositive
@Will-2BMorePositive 3 месяца назад
@@HawaiiDetailing I returned the Navimow. It can't get out of its own way, meaning it gets stuck in the slightest of ruts from the separation of sheets of sod and can't climb the slightest of hills either so it had to go. I'll set up the new Luba 2 this week but placing it 15 feet from the house because I installed a 22x15 concrete pad. After using the Luba 2, then returned it for the Navimow, I understand the need for 4 wheel power and an app that allows you to view what the mower sees, change the cutting hight and the app let's you change cutting direction, along with restarting from a percentage of the job, any percentage of the job. Not only does the Navimow fail in all of that, the Luba 2 allows you to manually mow using the Bluetooth connection so you don't need an edger unless you want to really get to the edges of your house. Luba 2 is worth the money.

Great video. I have a couple of questions. First, do these require Wi-Fi coverage over the entire cutting area? 2nd, loss of rtk signal, is there any way of knowing if there will be issues before buying? I have a small backyard ?that has a number big oak trees and my house is 2.5 stories. While the plan would be to mount the rtk at the top of the house, I’m still concerned about the functionality due to tree interference with the mower. Thoughts/experiences? Thanks, Arnie
@HawaiiDetailing
@HawaiiDetailing 2 месяца назад
It seems like the RTK to the mower connection is very strong regardless of trees. It is very important for the RTK to have a good view of the sky so that it has a good signal. I have not had any issues outside of wifi range but controlling it or viewing the live camera feed remotely (off site with your phone when you are not home) would be the only thing that might be an issue outside the wifi range. That is something that I never do anyway. I cant guarantee these things as I don't have the ability to test it on my property but that is my thoughts based on my experience.

Hi, I know you didn't try the lawn sweeper device yet, but since you used both the ones I'm interested in, I'd value your opinion for my specific lawn. I'm trying to choose which is better between the Yuka 2000 or the Luba 2H 3000. My lot is .59 acres, but only .44 acres of grass. Biggest issues are I got 70 small trees to mow around, 2-3" diameter, 6' apart minimum. And an 18 degree max slope across the front of my yard. The other issue is I got a line of mature oak trees along one side property line. I can't imagine this small leaf sweeper could make a dent in that, but maybe? It seems the Yuka can hug the 70 trees better than the Luba. But the Luba may be better on the 18 degree slope up front? Do you think the Yuka can sidehill (parallel) cut the 18 degree slope with that front wheel setup? Without the sweeper, as I see they mention with the sweeper it's 10 degree max. Can you give me your opinion which of these would be better for my lot? Thanks, Ken in Indiana

I think with large properties that have complex layouts with off camber mowing the Luba is going to be the better machine. The Yuka works best on flatter ground and slight angles. I would go with Luba on this one. Without seeing the property that’s my best guess though. Hope that helps.

@HawaiiDetailing

Yuka does a great job with the floating cutter head but I think the Luba is a much more capable machine depending on the situation. If its a smaller relatively flat yard with a lot of tight turns and very uneven ground the Yuka will do well. If there is any hill climbing or off camber cutting the Luba is more capable.

Let me add a bit - my yard is still under construction partially - it’s huge (5000 sq m) so luba needs to pass through mud and rough terrain, stones etc - its handling all that very well. The only issue is obstacles- trailers are a killer as it goes underneath and gets stucked. Also visual detection of obstacles is very poor. Algorithm of ‘going around’ the obstacle is weak as well… A major issue is no randomisation as far as passing from charging station to a channel leading to other areas - it’s always the same track and grass suffers on that track…

Yeah you are right. It gets you 98% there. For some people that’s amazing. For others that’s 2% short. A string trimmer on the side would be dangerous around pets or kids or to any delicate items in the yard. Just my thoughts.

To all the fanboys and paid testers out there: Forget it. I trusted y'all and bought a Yuka, but it can't even mow a 500 square meter lawn without getting stuck every time. They sent out an alpha-version prototype and don't even care to help you test it. The software is bad, the support is pretty much non-existent, and there's nobody nearby to fix it. After maybe 6 months, the parts will probably start falling apart, nobody can tell as of yet as there is no experience with this thing. I'm really disappointed after spending 3 whole days trying to get this thing to work on an easy yard.
@HawaiiDetailing
@HawaiiDetailing 2 месяца назад
I don’t want to discount your experience in any way as I understand being frustrated when things don’t go well but there are a few questions that may help. Is your RTK located with a clear line of sight to the sky and producing good satellite signal coverage? Is there overhead obstructions that could cause issues? Trees buildings etc. Is the charging station in a reasonable location with good WIFI reception and surrounding space allowing the robot to repeatedly enter and exit without issue? Was the grass prepped by pre mowing it down to a workable height within the mowers cutting height parameters? Is the mowing area well within the slope capability of the machine? Is the mowing area groomed reasonably flat so there are no pot holes or pits to cause issue while mowing? Is your perimeter map built with reasonable buffers to obstacles to account for various entry options and margin for error? Have you made no go zones for areas that are problematic such as gardens trees bushes etc. Do you mow often enough for this to be considered a maintenance cut or is the machine having to do big deep cuts every time it’s used? Do you have a reasonable level of technical skills and knowledge to support using this level of automation? This includes in the beginning phases making changes to workflow based presented problems to work toward a hands off experience? If you have done all the above items and still cannot get a satisfactory result maybe your property is just not right for the tool. If you have followed all these guidelines with no issue, had it working great and the machine has broken on you, I would demand a fast repair and help from customer service. If none of these above concerns are the problem I would consider a different approach style to get the help you need. Asking for help for specific problems from others who have had a great user experience on a forum like this. I understand the venting but the fanboy comments may not bring forward helpful people to provide the help you need. These machines do require changes after initial setup to account for issues that may arise while cutting. I usually make as many changes to the map as needed to get the perimeter to be ran without bumping edges or obstacle avoidance happening. After the perimeter map is perfected the machine will cut within the map consistently without issue. It’s all about the map. Hope that helps.
@cantfindanothernick

@HawaiiDetailing Thanks for the tips. I appreciate it, but I've already considered them and more. I'm an experienced engineer, and this device is riddled with problems. Here are just a few: The website says it takes 18 minutes to set this thing up. I've spent three full days, and it still stops and needs my intervention multiple times just on the first small part of my lawn for testing. The website claims an RTK connection range of 3km. That’s a joke. Mine often loses connection at less than 100m. It’s supposed to mow under trees, but it can’t. Even with a few sparse trees, Yuka loses GPS reception every time and stops working. There are tons of people online complaining about this. I live in a city, and obviously, there isn't a perfect clear view of all the satellites in every direction. This is just normal and Mammotion has to deal with it, not me. Nowhere does Mammotion mention that the robot can’t be used in cities with nearby buildings. The website even shows more complex setups than mine. My Refstation and robot usually find around 25-30 satellites, yet it still isn’t enough. Maybe you're right, and my lawn isn't "right" for the tool. BUT: There's no proper documentation to provide the necessary info before buying. So how was I supposed to know? Currently you have to do a lot of research and find all the bits of information on the web and youtube. Customer support is practically non-existent, and the software is buggy. The app gives wrong info about connection quality, and the robot sometimes navigates into no-go zones, which is unacceptable. This tool is for people who have a lot of time and want to tinker with a new gadget. Not for those who need a mower to save time on lawn care, which is supposedly the target audience.

I have not had any issue and my grass looks like a putting green. I don't lift a finger to keep it that way. Best investment for the yard I have ever made. You do have to be willing to learn the machine, its capabilities and adjust you expectations to make it work the best possible. Most people that have issues want it to run 1/2 inch from a complicated edge around a huge property. That is the dream but after the initial setup you should monitor the performance and adjust the border. This will eliminate the sections that are not able to be quite as close as you would hope. That is the key. After a few tests and adjustments you get your zone dialed in and its pretty much hands off from there. If in the future you notice a problem with a zone address as needed. Find a great placement for the RTK and do not move it. That is another important item. if you do move the RTK restart this whole process from scratch. If none of this process sounds entertaining or is not worth your time I definitely would not buy one. It also can go as slow as 1' per second so anything that gets hit is already in trouble before this thing even gets near it. Hahaha. Hopefully that helps some people with these questions..
