It’s the interview we all wanted to see in #TheLastDance and we found it sitting in the NBL archives. Luc Longley back in 2005 talking all things MJ, Chicago Bulls, and NBA 🐂🏀
love the doco, however, it is a shame, that Luc was not interviewed or he even hardly mentioned in the doco, dispirited being the starting centre in the playoff finals :(
They didn’t get along and Mike had sign off on the doco, so he was not going to be included. They used money as an issue, which is laughable. It is a shame.
@@TechMyLifeVideo Its not that they didn't get along, it’s that Luke longley coped the most amount of crap every time they lost, when they won it was Jordan winning the game, when they lost it was longley losing it.
Longley's career peaked in his last season with the Bulls, at age 29, when they won their final championship. He averaged 11.4 pts, 5.9 rebs and 1.1 blocks, in 29 minutes of action per game in 1998.
MJ recently interviewed with ABC news Australia. A one hour interview, exclusively for Luc Longley. He regrets not having more said about his other team mates, like Luc & Tony. He gave high praise for Luc as a team mate. Did he get on his ass? Yes. When you're champions, you do these things. We love you in the USA, Luc! Luuuuuukkke!
Madd respect to Luc Longley. He always played solid against Shaq, Ewing, etc. Luc had solid fundamentals and shot a high percentage when open. Longley was one of the most consistent Bull's contributors game to game. Great interview.
Modern viewers don’t get what being fearless and solid and playing well enough against shaq, Ewing and the bigs of that era. Early Shaq was more impactful and overwhelming individually than MJ. So quick and so strong, a hard worker and very skilled at the powergame
Funny how everyone says what an asshole Jordan was, and he was, but I heard Kerr, Kukoc and now Longley all say they absolutely loved that time in the Bulls. If Jordan was so insufferable then how come? If you ever played any sports you will realize you need that guy on the team, guy that pushes everyone and its not pretty at times but man it makes the game more exciting because every game is life or death. You would think that making all that money and playing in front of so many fans would motivate players to do their best but thats not the case. You NEED that guy.
People are soft these days. I was told terrible things about Jordan before i watch the doc and there was nothing there. Like Steve kerr said, all those players had good opportunities later in their lifes because they were part of those teams. The pros easily outweight the cons.
Yes, they needed Jordan to be that way for the team to be so good. But "that way" was being an asshole. Just because it worked, doesn't mean that behavior wasn't being an asshole
I know this is old but this definitely could have been included in the documentary. Can’t believe they said budget constraints. ESPN? Disney? Skype! What the heck. Same with Ron harper
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TdjBOdG9VF8.html This video has them both in it. I dunno if it is new interviews or not but it was a good watch. I think its only part 1 though I can't find part 2 yet.
And the big black cat pacing. Maybe Luc wasn't featured in the documentary for the simple reason that when interviewed he appeares to have made ill-considered statements.
@@EdwardsNH Hi. It was the statements of the black cat pacing and the bloodthirsty little bastard combined that I thought amounted to an ill-considered interview. Given MJ had a level of creative control over the footage taken in their last year at the Bulls, it might have served Luke better to speak more selectively (and respectfully). That said, I didn't realise how old this footage was (well before any documentary would have been on his mind) or that MJ was called "the black cat" more generally (which, in my view, is a bit racist by today's standards but wouldn't have been perceived that way in the early 90s). I've since seen the ABC two part series on Luc (The Giant Leap) where he gave an honest and respectful account of his relationship with MJ. I think my earlier comment was too harsh.
I was an incoming freshman at the University of New Mexico with Luc. Had Freshman English with him. Saw him the first two classes, never saw him again…I think he got an A…lol. Seriously, I was in the stands for every Lobo game during those years. It was awesome.
He was interviewed on the three documentaries of each of the Bulls' three championships in 1996 ("Unstoppabulls"), '97, and '98 ("Unforgettabulls"), which were made right after each championship run.
MJ and Longley had lots of personality clashes primarily. Jordan was merciless if you were his teammate and you didn't think and play like him. Of course, that did translate to winning, which every member of the Bulls got to experience from 1991-1998.
It still blows my mind how a franchise can win six championships in 8 years, two 3 peats and they dismantle the team and they haven't been back to the finals ever since haven't even come close to getting back honestly
Yeah, it will remain one of the NBA's greatest controversies, even though by now no stone is left unturned a la The Last Dance miniseries. The closest the Chicago Bulls came to making it back to the Finals was in 2011 when Derrick Rose was the MVP and led the Bulls to the Eastern Conference Finals against the Miami Heat and their Big Three of Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh--who beat Chicago in five games en route to (losing) the Finals against Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks.
Drew well said! People praise Tom Brady for 7 titles in 20 plus yrs but the Bulls won 6 in 8 yrs. Looking back I still feel cheated as a Bull's fan who was fortunate to see all 6 championship Bull's runs.
@@SwaggerLikeUz , Brady at one point won 3 in 4 years…. if you going to say Brady has 7 in 20 plus years, than you’d have to say that Jordan (greatest of all time) won 6 in 15 years of playing in the NBA. Overall though, I think comparing NBA/NFL is apples to oranges, too many different variables. One or two great players on a NBA is vastly different than one or two great players on a NFL team.
To me it will always be the reason MJ was the greatest of all time. The Bulls are a second rate organization . Werent good before MIcheal and havent been that good since. The Owner is cheap and knows he can fill the arena with a mediocre team, during the long Chicago winter. Anybody can win playing for the Lakers, probably the greatest organization in sports.
Luc is not Aussie, he’s Armenian. He’s original name was Luca Longleyan, he was considered the biggest man in Soviet Armenia. He even has an Armenian accent when he speaks English.
I've got a feeling that Luc flattened Michael a couple of times in practice. Australians see right through bullshit and I'm pretty sure Michael learnt that the hard way!
My sense is there was a 'come to Jesus' moment between Luc and Mike. In a for real brawl MJ was no match for LL. He knew it, too. I know alot of Aussie guys. If you don't 'learn' to respect them they'll 'teach' you to respect them. Have a feeling MJ learned. lol
If I remember correctly, Charles Oakley (or it might have been horace grant) basically told Mike one time that if he ever disrespected him again, he wouldn't be playing basketball anymore. Jordan's overly competitive attitude has cost him many relationships over the years.
Luc is all class and it is disgraceful that he was not even mentioned in the last dance documentary. The people involved should hang their heads in shame. Saying they didn’t have the money is the biggest load of BS ever told. Jordan made the choice to leave him out and has gone down in my estimation as a man.
It's not even about giving Luc a token inclusion either. The doco would have actually been so much better with him in it. His story is unique and he's so funny & personable with his self-deprecation & anecdotes about MJ - he would have been a fan favourite (maybe that was the problem).
Jordan felt bad enough to actually appear in the Australian doco of Luc and said he regretted not including him more in the last dance and had nothing but good things to say about him. He didn’t have to do the Australian doco so it was kinda cool to see him on it..it humanized him a little more; in a good way
Those were men sucking it up. These days if somebody says something bad to their game, they asks for tranfer the next season. These era of NBA has probably have the most skilled players and at the same time the weakest mentally ever in basketball history.
Was Longley the best center the Bulls had during their 6 wins? He was definitely better than Bill Wennington and Joe Kleine during the 2nd 3-peat. He was definitely better than Stacey King and Will Perdue during the 1st 3-peat but was he better than Bill Cartwright? I think Cartwright was a better defender against the dominant centers but Longley was a better offensive player as he could hit the 15-17 foot jump shot pretty consistently. He wasn't very quick with his lateral movement, though.
Longley was younger than Cartwright during their respective runs on the Bulls during their separate three-peats so he (Longley) was likely a little more agile and dexterous. As to who was better between the two centers, I'd say they were equal. Even in today's NBA that is dominated by guards shooting nothing but three pointers all day, you still need a solid big man in the paint to defend.
If these 'docuseries' has more episodes (which supposedly will)., I'm sure and hope Luc will be involved. They should make more of these shows and continue to do so., there so much fans would love to see !
Lol Michael was blood thirsty. That said I appreciated that team like any bball fan who saw them play. The entire team was responsible and reliable which at times is better than being great with attitude and losing. So kudos to the team.
@@ordinarypete hahahahaha. Absolutely. Every game felt like a movie where they would come out on top. And even when hey lost, you knew 100% they would get revenge or win the next 5 to 10 games. A good feeling every time. I miss that magical era sir
For some reason I always thought that Luc Longley was a foreigner. Probably because he never spoke. But with a name like that, I figured he was French Canadian or something. I would have NEVER guessed The Man in the Middle was an Aussie!
So he had bad experiences in the NBA before and after his time with the Bulls, and even with the Bulls he says he didn't relly like playing with Mike that much. I'm surprised he had such a difficult time in the NBA when it's all hoopers dream to play in the NBA.
Hey Longly , remember one thing, you are good enough, for starting Chicago Bull , don’t matter what, mostly NBA players wanted so bad to winning a championship, but , some didn’t even won a One championship, they were trying so hard to win One , at the end, was big disappointment, you did won Championships, Success, Achieved your dreams , that counts, Don’t felt like you were not important , I do pretty much believe , every single person on Chicago Bull they were trying to be comparative, trying to win NBA Championship, so are you, Everyone on the team was good and important, other wise , you all wouldn’t win any
So basically he wasn’t interviewed due to budget constraints 🤷🏽♂️ everyone that was interviewed was stateside. They’d have to take a camera crew out to Perth or wherever it was in Australia Luc lives.
Or... You hire a camera crew in Perth to film him and do the interview over the phone. They ship the tape and you edit away.... simple and cheap. But yeah... it was due to budget constraints. 😉
@@tK-be6ns Exactly.... they interviewed Jordan that way. Aussie journalist on Zoom/Skype asking questions. US film crew on site. It's the same quality without the travel and shipping costs. ESPN could have easily squeezed it in to the 10 part series budget. #fabricatedexcuses
@@jc8322 Literally not all accounts or it wouldn't even be a debate. And there is that famous clip of Jordan saying "you know Luc, this is the last time I pay you a compliment during a game." He wouldn't have been left out of the Last Dance if he really earned it.
I know he's upset with how his career finished, but seriously it doesn't matter he'll be remembered for way longer than many that had more explosive individual careers... He was the starting centre on one of the best and most memorable teams ever and he delivered in the clutch multiple times.
So, you're telling me, that this was deleted from the Last Dance docco?. An interview with unknown Aussie/American Steve Carfino?. I don't think so guys, stop hoping on the Last Dance/Luc Longley bandwagon. It was a few weeks ago now give up.
Luc was better than jordan and shaq,he is from austria and did body building when he was young,in the 95 finals he made a swish and they are hard to do,he can also do handstands on the beach
