"I wonder what kind of fish they are." "I think they're, like, axolotls." "I don't think they're fish, guys. They... talk." this three way debate epitomizes your entire channel fr
Urgh, so close-- Bryce and Rob switched vibes today-- or at least. Rob was more in a chilled, casually wondering mood and Bryce was more on the snark 😂
2 boys living in fear of coming out, going to a place that is hostile to people like them, making them hide who they really are, until find a "chosen family" to live their true colors, and there are people who still try to convince us that it is not a queer allegory, a beautiful one btw
Iirc, the writer said that there was potential to make Luca and Alberto a couple and it had been discussed but they wanted to concentrate on the pre-romance friendship.
I think the message of this story is beautiful, in my perspective it is a story that can teach kids about accepting others for their differences (wether it’s sexuality, race, gender, ability) and shows the importance of seeing people for their personal qualities. I thought the friendship between Luca and Alberto (potentially something more 👀) was so sweet and heartwarming! 💗
@@Daytondaily oh yeah that’s definitely how I see it lol when people say “omg their JUST best buds” I’m like mmmm only in the context of the friends-to-lovers w/ time trope babes 😄
When luca was dizzy, and fish were swimming around his head, it was a play on a cartoon seeing stars. You get it? Because Luca still thinks the stars are fish!
Someone figured out that Gulias school is only about an hours train ride away. So if you're sad about the ending, you now have proof that they'll visit every chance they get. Naysayers, shut up. Let us have this.
Also in the after credits they have art of them all hanging out and I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be when Luca and Giulia visit home during the summer! Those drawings were the only thing keeping me in one piece after watching the movie I was so sad 😭 I needed that clarity
The director was answering questions on Twitter and apparently one of the fishing spears that were thrown at Alberto did cut him, if you look closely he has a little scar on his arm.
omg!! i put this on for my 2 y/o niece one time & ended up LOVING it. i could watch it a billion times and still cry at the ending. the animation is so cute and perfect for the setting. also Alberto is so sassy & Luca reminds me of my little brother 🥹 this movie definitely was a great one for me!
I love Luca, such a cute movie. There is a short that follows this up that's really cute showing what Alberto gets up to while they're at school! I think its called "Ciao Alberto"
I love the whole "coming out" plot... would love to have watched this move as a pre-teen! the last scene with them letting their colors show and Alberto thanking Luca for getting him out of the island, plus their monster colors that match both the gay and the bisexual flags, so sweet🥺❤️
The ending never fails to make me cry, i love this movie so much and I really hope they make a sequel to this. I want to see their relationship explored more because you can’t tell me there isn’t chemistry there! This is very much a coming out story and accepting yourself for who you are and I love that. Especially at the end when the (possibly lesbian) old ladies revealed themselves as also fish ppl. I would love to see Alberto going to visit Luca or Luca coming back to the town and possibly finding out they both have feelings for each other.
yes!! that would make such a cute sequel! really hope disney goes through with it. can't say i trust them to really commit to such an overt queer story, but you never know. i certainly hope they will
this is SUCH a great film, absolutely amazing. it doesn't matter whether you read it as a queer subtext or as a story about friendship, it's just a beautiful story in general. The soundtrack is one of my favorites from all the pixar films as well to be honest. And this film always makes me want to eat pasta😂❤
I actually once wrote a Luca/Good Omens crossover where I dropped Aziraphale and Crowley into the Luca universe. I even changed the race to swimming, running and drinking tea! It's called You're My Best Friend, and under ICanSingNoRequiem.
Luca is such a underrated and beautiful Pixar film to me shame it wasn’t released in cinemas at the time due to the pandemic also happy birthday rob hope you have an amazing day full of joy you deserve it king
This is such a cute film with an amazing message for everyone. I’m glad you guys enjoyed the film. The end credits do show more of Luca’s school adventures
loved your reaction guys! if you guys didnt know theres also a short film called "Ciao Alberto" its mainly focused on Albertos relationship with the "Dad" its also so heart warming and cute story
The "seamonsters" in this movie are essentially Gillmen (species) Now there are some variety in Gillmen, though not a lot of them have a tail, they obviously do ^^
fun fact: i know the girl who plays giulia! and not in like a "i met her once" kinda way but in a we were in the same acting class kinda way shes really nice! i was only in the acting class for a little bit because i suck lol but i talked to her a few times and i got a selfie with her while doing improve
I can’t even put to words how much I wanted to see your reaction to this movie! I cry every time when I see scene where Alberto reveals himself to Julia and Luca to be not outed betrays him... I think when you belong to any category that are not accepted in your place, this movie can hurt a lot, cause through “sea monsters” they show us…
I don't think Luca was planning on "staying in the closet" at school. He was just going to be himself and know that some will accept him and others won't. The queer vibes are so strong in this movie.
The story is a PG gay love story, basically call me by your name for kids. It’s definitely a metaphor for being queer. You can see the old ladies on dates throughout the entire film and see they live together, then at the end of the film they drop their umbrellas to show their “sea monsters” too. Ercole describes them as “disgusting” which is used against queer people and not a natural thing to say about a monster. Multiple scenes are taken directly from other gay love stories. Such a good movie and the perfect use of symbolism.
This movie was my hyperfixation for a long time. I waited until midnight when it came out on DisneyPlus. I woke up my cousin to make her watch it with me.😂 It deserved a theatrical release.😢
Love it, the characters are fleshed out and the vibes are so wholesome and like homey

Luca was set in a finctional town in The Ligurian Riviera (Italy)( a mix between Portofino and Monterosso , 2 real town), also eating (pasta al pesto), people and more are Ligurian People We are from Genoa, ligurian Sea, my husband is Luca ❤, like a Luca in movie, slim and curly😂
Just because Luca and Alberto are sea creatures doesn’t make them cannibals for eating fish. Humans eat cows and we’re both land animals 🤷🏻♂️. And is it just me, or does the cat look like h****r?
There is a theory that the reason why Julia freaked out so bad over the Alberto's sea monster look was because he was very similar to Randal from Monsters Inc. & there is another that Bruno from Encanto is Alberto's father; he left with intention to come back but things happened... perhaps the magic from Castita erased his memories of his son.
LUCA is absolutey in my top 5 favorite Disney movies. As a queer person, the allegory really related to me. And the friendship between Luca and Alberto was so beautiful. I love y'all's reactions! 🩵
