Carter keeps on lurking around Lucas like some creep. He interrupts Lucas when he was about to tell him how he felt. Rudely kicked Dillon out of the room. Brought up Scott’s suicide attempt, talking about Ste’s character, and suggested people are physically going to hurt him just because he’s gay. Then made it seem like Scott was going to out him. And was ok that Lucas was leaving school to shut up Scott. He doesn’t need to be around children. Hannah needs to comeback to end this flop.
That Carter character, is he a religious nutter who believes he by keeping Lucas away from boys will win favour with the Lord? Or is he trying to isolate Lucas completely cause he fancies him himself, and by isolating Lucas he plans to make Lucas believe the only one who truly loves him, is Carter. Very cleverly provoking Lucas to angry confrontations with his surroundings, until the only one to welcome him with open arms is Carter.
The storyline is about conversion therapy, so yes more a religious closeted man, who thinks he will win favour by the lord by "helping" Lucas as he sees it. "Helping" a troubled vulnarable teen get on "The right path" as he call it. Carter fancies John Paul, but is afraid to come out/in denial, thinking he is bad for having had those kind of feelings, that he also had for others I think before coming to the Village, and he has been leading groups of people with conversion therapy like sessions before, trying to get them on "the right path" so he says, so they in his eyes can better themselves and be good for the lord and live a better life. He tried to use conversion therapy on John Paul who saw through him and thought that he might help Carter stop it, but Hannah briefly came back(She'll be back later again I heard) and saw him with John Paul, but he wanted it to be a secret/saying he was a good man, but he also hit her, so she passed out etc, and she said before he made her leave for now, that he was a bad man and John Paul deserved better. (He is dating or tried to date Maxine to seem straight) I really don't like Carter. I wish he'd just go away and someone will save Lucas so to speak and Freya(his daughter) will see what her dad is about.
He's a crazy religious nutter who has been running conversion therapy for adults, even though he has a thing for JP, has spent time alone acting crazy, trying to pray his own gay away, and is trying to do conversion therapy on Lucas to prevent him from accepting himself. Carter isn't interested in Lucas sexually. He's trying to bible beat him into heterosexuality. I really can't stand Carter. I hope Scott figures out exactly who is training Lucas to be a homophobe, and to hate himself, and I hope he figures it out quick, because I feel like Carter might push Lucas too far. Lucas is too emotionally unstable, and already shows a lot of signs of depression, and has been showing signs on and off for over two months. I pray this story doesn't end with him having to hurt himself, almost succeed in dying, and then finally realize it would be better to be himself than dead, and start his second chance at life. I'd rather it not have to get that bad before he accepts himself, but Carter bringing up Scotts suicide attempt is kind of worrying. Lucas didn't need that idea in his head, that suicide is an option if you stray too far from god and can't stop being gay.
@@saranissen6210 Thanks for the detailed resume, because of it I now know a little more of why Carter behave as he does. Conversion therapy is a form of brain-washing without scientific foundation. In my country, Norway, it is even against the law. Hollyoaks being a soap it is obvious Carter is being painted like this because the viewers are meant to hate or dislike him. While Lucas we are meant to feel sympathy for. But had we just been shown Lucas trashing the room Scott had prepared for the guest talker, and yelling at Dillon, we likely would have had an equally bad impression of him, as of Carter. James was a baddy deluxe, until Hollyoaks decided to blame his father for James' bad behaviour. Soaps are very bipolar that way. The same character can be the villain in one storyline, and hero or victim in the next. And we get strange storylines like a character marrying the lawyer that not only tried to frame him for a murder he hadn't committed, but even introduced a former boyfriend of his to prostitution. Storylines very unlikely to be reflected in real life. But by making us sympathise with characters in one storyline, hating them in the next, we as viewers are tricked into reacting emotionally instead of reflecting intellectually and get a clearer picture of who the character is, and why the character is like that. I wonder why Carter has the particular interpretation of religion as he has. It is certainly not from the Bible. Apart from 1 sentence in one of Paul's letters to the Romans, and one place in the old testament, the Bible doesn't mention homosexuality at all. So either he himself, or his parents, must have belonged to a sect or congruation very focused on the gay issue. There are many topics mentioned far more often than homosexuality in the Bible. Among them is being kind to widows and fatherless children, warning against the pharisees and the learned of the scriptures, and the importance of being meek and humble. So the only way Carter could have had the believe that homosexuality was against God's will, was if he either had been taught so, or he had sought that information himself. Had he just been reading the Bible he would not have regarded the gay issue as very important. So it shall be interesting to see what turns out to be the background for why Carter is the way he is.
@@Tvjunkieful12 Yes in series like this it can switch many times with characters and one minute we might sympathise with them and the next minute we might hate them, because most people are not one-dimensional and it good to have a character with layers/a (well writen/thoughtout)backstory and personality. We all also have our reasons for not liking a character(if we see them as boring, badly writen/acted, because of certain things they have done, their personality etc). Sometimes they might brush over some things from the past, because so many things has happened they can't keep track of it all, or to make another story easier/they just want something to go a certain way I suppose, but with you mentioning James and Ste, I really like, that James has a backstory to tell some of the reason, why he behave like he does, but still it doesn't just excuse everything to me, even if we sympathise at times. After Ste's break when he got out of the far right group, James were one of the first to propper talk to him again as I remember, and they slowly started to bond, and eventually forgiving each other for many things it seems or at least putting up with a lot, even if I at first found it weird that they were paired romanticaly considering how much they hated each other in the past and kinda fought over Harry, but now I like them together. They both have very questionable morals and dark sides at times and many flaws like many characters on the show through time, and Gregory and Kieron are my favorite actors in the series cause no matter what, they do a great acting job I think. I don't remember if Carter told John Paul about his reasons, or it's just me imagining it, but I have a feeling it could be because his dad or both parents didn't approve, when they might have found out and told him it was wrong/got so disappointed. Of course they could be very religious themselves/in a cult but I have a feeling its "just" about his parents and the feeling of shame, so he turned to religion, or him being so afraid what others might think, if he came out, that he did, but someone correct me, if I am wrong.
We get so close it’s like one step forward and 2 steps back 😂 Carter can go when the truth comes out what he’s been up I can’t wait to see what will happen knowing poor John Paul he’ll probably standby him they need to give him someone normal for once. But enough about them I only wanna see Dillon & Lucas
I hate Lucas for getting so hurt on the show, thanks to his dad, Ste, but Carter overhears Scott, who talks to him about Dillon, he teaches him about gay conversion therapy!! 😮
I hope that Lucas is just a segue to talk about the big issue of conversion therapy and we can save everyone from Carter, I don’t know if we can save him from himself, JP tried but I’m also disappointed in JP for not calling this out bc he’s into Carter Your job will be more secure when he’s gone and someone trustworthy is put into the position of headmaster, maybe even JP himself could get promoted but he’s playing some weird game at the risk of others Not saying out everyone there but Carter and his operation, he doesn’t even need to be outed himself but his truth will have to come from his mouth if he wants to live after Ste and the other Queer people find him
What Lucas is seeing is all of the gays of Hollyoaks constantly breaking up Maybe if the show kept at least one married for years and without needing to break them up, he could have positive representation bc there are soooooo many gay couples that have been lifelong partners I hope Lucas and Dillon break the cycle I know they’re young and will have their ups and downs but I hope they become the first mlm couple that doesn’t fully end it even if they temporarily break up, they find their way back to each other and stay, they are healthy and have other storylines to keep them busy, ones that test their love but doesn’t break it
It’s a soap. Everyone breaks up. It’s not like there’s any examples of the straight couples staying together either. It would make more sense that he would be traumatized by the fact that 2 of his father’s exes are murderers, 1 even killed his mom. 4 are dead. One in prison. Current partner can be abusive. And that’s what I can remember off the top of my head. If those are the examples from his home I can understand not wanting to emulate that. But the show doesn’t seem to be highlighting Ste’s dating history as the reason Lucas has all this self hatred. They seem to only be focusing on Ste’s addiction problems which seems a weird reason for Lucas to develop internalized homophobia.
Carter is so creepy. He’s basically using grooming tactics to try to get Lucas to hate himself. Turning lucas against his friends and family, trying to get him to be the only one Lucas trusts. It’s so creepy
