A short video on the electronics for an old fuel injection system for the Rover V8 engine. This engine was used by Land Rover for many years and a popular transplant in other cars. Although both the engine and injection system are now obsolete there are still enthusiasts for it. It also demonstrates an early 8-bit dedicated computer engine management system without it being buried in infotainment and security software.

Interesting it's just rs232 for diagnostics. Makes it easy to hook up!

Almost, but it's not standard RS232 as it's 12V and inverts the Tx signal. So a dedicated cable has to be made to deal with this. It quite straight forward though.

The plot thickens! What are you up to? With more modern do it all ECU's, it's a bit harder to reverse engineer them, which may explain the popularity of aftermarket units. Not long before I get that Speeduino unit I've been talking about, then you can have a poke around that 😉

Wanted to create a spare ECU for a 3.5ltr out of a 3.9ltr ECU but noticed I had a great test-jig as well. Even confirmed quickly I had, as suspected, as sticky extra air valve on the vehicle. Having a bench test arrangement is so much easier than taking the laptop out to the garage and working around the car. The after market option is getting good these days, apparently these old system can get a bit out of breath at high processing speeds.

@@tuopeeks Well done getting some future use out of the old dog. It's a handy thing to have for quick diagnostics. I never looked into them a lot, did you ever figure out how they batch fired the injectors? Nowadays even Arduino processor speeds are way more than older injection systems needed.
