This worked great in my corvette that had a leak and a hard spot in the steering. Now I use Lucas in everything I can. Using Lucas 20w50 synthetic in my Harley.
Put this in my Car a week ago ...Got to -0 cpl nights ago in Chicago!!! Started car yesterday and it made a horrible grind whine sound...let it warm up then till sound died down a bit... Put it in drive and then it blew fluid everywhere!!!!!!! 🤣 WISH IT HAD A WARNING ON BOTTLE NOT TO USE IN Extreme cold..... Acceptance is the Key to all my Problems!!!
I don't have a leak in my system but my mechanic recommended i do this to my system to solve my hard steering and two, almost three days now and it feels light and agile. love it.
It absolutely worked for my Car. 2007 Saturn Outlook. Had the power steering pump replaced 3 years ago. Power steering rack started making whiny noise this past winter. It would start after about 5 minutes of driving. I suctioned out the power steering pump and put half a bottle of this in, turned the wheels about 12 times. Drove it the next day and no noise! GM wanted to charge me over a thousand dollars to replace the rack but this 9.99 bottle made all the difference. The car's 12 years old. I don't want to put that much more money into it. It's a good car and I've had minimal problems with it and the engine is still going strong
used it in the wife's ford. it slowed the leak down but didn't stop it. i had to replace the rack & pinion anyway. it did help at the time until i could get the parts...
Gotta change out gearbox on my mercury. Might also replace the fluid lines since they're rotted. Gearbox leaking from below. Just added Lucas to power steering. Hoping it'll help me carry another month or two before I finally take it into the shop
Great Video, and I have this really bad whining or howling sound coming from my power steering pump or rack ? After watching a couple videos like yours, it seems that everyone said this stuff works, so I gave it a shot. I got the same thing as you, and in about 10 minutes, about 85 % of the noise was gone, and I was surprised. Now I'll have to wait and see if it will stop the "leak" that caused my low fluid level, and steering noise in the first place. I'll have to drive the car over the next 10-14 days and check fluid levels. If the leak stops, and some guys say it will, I'll be very happy, so I'm hoping for the best. Of the Videos I've watched about 75 % say it works very well, and no question, the noise will go away. Great product.
I love lucas transmission was jerking and slipping it stopped in about 3 thats after adding lucas stopslip 8 thousand miles later it still shifts great
most people don't know that there is a filter inside of the trans-reservoir-take it out of the car and clean it with brake cleaner-as your doing your flush,
don't replace power steering pump you got air in your system you have to get a vacuum pump to pull the air out of it and it won't make the growling noise anymore quick note don't put just plain old power steering fluid back in it Chrysler and Dodge require ATF + 4 fluid
This stuff doesn’t stop the noise because it doesn’t remove air from the system. Bleed the power steering system and/or remove trapped air BEFORE buying this. If the noise doesn’t go away, then it’s the pump that needs to be replaced. If the noise DOES go away, then drain the pump reserves some and refill it with this. Again, this doesn’t neutralize air. It just stops a leak.
Friend told me he had terrible noise when he turned wheel to the right. He pulled some fluid with a turkey baster.,replaced with fresh fluid..no change. I told him he should try the Lucas os conditioner.. He pulled as much as he could our of the reservoir ..topped off with Lucas..a day or two..no more noise. Had much success with Lucas additives. Folks can complain about em all they want. I no longer have reservations about using their products. Also, don't overthink this stuff. Just pull some out of where you wanna put..and put the additive in there. I like to use the $7 fluid extractor from Harbor freight. It's a godsend 5 success stories with their trans additive btw..all different kinds of symptoms. All still daily drivers...2 of them we put a 20oz bottle in ..4 years and over 20,000 miles ago. Keep hatin
Yeah like the Ford I have is very much like the Fusion you sold. Like the reservoir is not holding the fluid. I did a flush removing the return hose and capping the reservoir but like the thing keeps draining. No fluid in the resrvoir. So yeah I am going to like look for leaks. It might be the high pressure hose to the rack that's leaking. But like great video Nathan.
I read many comments down below about how Lucas turned their small leaks into huge leaks. Instead, what you absolutely should consider using is a product called AT-2 reseal. It has the viscosity of water but reconditions the rubber seals in power steering systems without harming them.
@@FixingWithPassion. If you enjoyed that, I’ve another good one for you. Look into sea foam trans tune. There’s a quick video by Scotty Kilmer on the stuff. I think this is what most people should try for a stiff wheel without leaking, but if you have a leak the AT-2 reseal is the way to go. Enjoy!
@@penaejackson7062 Nope! Unfortunately not. The first bottle I put in did have a positive reaction to my steering and the growling sound went completely away. Then i added a second bottle, but its not the product itself ( I highly recommend Lucas Stop Leaks) Its just that my Rack and Pinion is officially shot!!! I could put cement in there and it would still leak through the bushings.
I'm aware. Ask any mechanic. The #1 cause of noise in a power steering system is simply dirty fluid. 1st course of action should have been a drain and fill with new fluid. Putting any "stop leak" additive in your oil, coolant system or power steering system can cause more problems. New fluid is all you needed.
Then why did the noise go away? I did not remove any dirty fluid? Just added new oil it. So...That statement is not true (at least partially). I've replaced noisy PS assembles because of faulty bearings that make noise. Its not always clearly a smoking gun case everytime (sometimes dirty oil). Then again the noise could have been a "combo" of a few things.
Power Steering fluid itself has lubrication properties that wear out over time. New power steering fluid would have solved the lack of lubrication causing the noise. What you did was add the Lucas which also has lubrication properties and solved the noise issue. The bad part is using Lucas, you also added "stop leak" addiitives that could swell up seals, clog up the vanes in your power steering pump or the screen filter in the bottom of your reservoir tank over time. Bottom line, if you have no leaks, it doesn't make sense to use anything with "stop leak" additives.
DONT'T BUY THIS SHIT! I ISED IT ON MY 88 GTA. NEW PUMP, BUT SMAL LEAK ON STEERING BOX. After 5 min of low rmp i turned steering wheel and power stering was GONE!!! Pump started making weard sounds. It killed my pump! ://///
In Minnesota here - just used Lucas and STP (both mineral oil) - so it does swell up the seals - and the leak has stopped. But the pump is whining from the thickness. So I just used the transfer pump to take out - and put in about 12 ounces of normal power steering fluid. So I'll then do that a couple more times to get rid of the mineral oil so I don't have to replace the pump... I had close to completely all mineral oil in there.
As a caravan owner I know that they have a small screen in the tank that starve the system that cause this issue . once I replaced mine the noise stayed gone. You can try to clean them or punch them out but it is a cheap part and easy to do so why risk a pump and rack for a 20 to 30 dollar part.
Nathan, my power steering ran low on fluid because of a leak. I have now fixed the leak, but the steering is heavy and it doesn't return to centre when I do your test... Do you suspect damaged steering rack?
Things I’ve had work: K seal is number 1 and works better than Blue Devil for a radiator leak. Number 2 Lucas oil stop leak worked great to stop an oil leak both of these were added 1 year and a half ago and I’m still driving the car with no more leaking and no problems. The only product that didn’t work for me was the Lucas oil power steering stop leak. I believe this didn’t work mostly because the leak or hole was just too big for the product to bond properly. These are my experiences. The reason for K seal over Blue devil for the radiator was well, the most important reason K seal completely stoped my radiator leak where blue devil only stopped it for about 2 weeks and I found blue devil turns into like a vasoline type gel and doesn’t ever harden where K seal has aluminum in it and turns hard and seals the problem.
Hello. I have a 2002 DOHC Taurus Duratec engine, and I was wondering if you have a video on changing the high pressure power steering line. I've seen a video of one being changed on another vehicle, so at this this time I'm thinking that it's probably the same as my car.
Hi, i have a Mazda 6 2.2 Diesel 2009, when i try to park the car, steering is going very hard. could you tell me what is the problem: as i said only when park the car. when i put the car to reverse gear is geting hard.
This stuff is probably for a weeping joint / O ring it worked for me for just that if you have a situation where you are worse than that don't bother save your money need a mechanical fix hope this helps 👀
What about the gearbox it could be that too?or for sure is the pump? how can i troubleshoot it.my truck does the same only when the engine is warmed up.at low RPM
I wish I could tell you. I only have just some time working with power steering pumps and gear boxes. But I'd do the cheaper easier thing first like the pump. I don't think a gear box would give that kind issue.
What i learned with gearbox main objective of it is to turn the wheel back back itself when turning like how you let go of steering wheel the wheels turn back to the original position so if you're turning your wheel while driving and let go of the steering wheel doesn't go back to straight then your gearbox needs to be replaced
If Lucas is cold it will take forever to come out. Warm in nuker for about 30 seconds. What I do is "wash" the Lucas with atf (power steering fluid my vehicle uses) and drip dry the container after addition into an empty container for future use😀
You have to understand any stop leak or types of conditioners are just temporary fixes. Repair first time and be done with it. My power steering pump was bad. Went to junk yard and got a used one found out that had same problem but very less of a problem. Then bought a new one (not remanufactured) and that solved all the problems.
Curious about that stuff. I have a very slight leak in one of the boots of my rack and pinion. Nothing major my car steers just fine and I have plenty of fluid left in the reservoir. Maybe it could help? But I'm anyway sceptical about those kinda magic leek stop formulas. Or if it would make things worse?
BlueDevil can make things worse because as a synthetic chemical it swells the seals by dissolving the chemical bonds - it's a solvent. Lucas is Mineral Oil - so it swells the rubber but does not deteriorate the Tensile Strength of the seals at all. With the synthetic chemicals - the tensile strength is reduced to only about 20% or less of what it previously was.
is it possible the system just needed bleeding and when you drained it and filled it you bled the system? in which case if you used regular fluid you might have achieved the same results.
After watching a few videos on this Lucas product, I wonder if your typical everyday power steering fluid is not the right viscosity from the get go? I am going to try this stuff, because I have recently been having a power steering leak. Topped it off twice now. Geez, I really don't feel like getting the ramps out and climbing under the truck. My old back hates doing the under the vehicle crap these days!
@@FixingWithPassion - I bought some on the way home from work today. Nine dollars and change at Walmart. It was pouring rain from featureless geoengineered sky, so I will hopefully get a chance to put this stuff in tomorrow. Thanks for the video.
i admit i have a bad leak but its guaranteed , so i tried lucas, it didnt help at all but it says you may have to use it twice, i did and still the leak is just as bad as before, didnt work at all. i may try bars 1600 2 part sealer, already tried bars sealer , the one thats only 5 bucks. the 2 part one is around 10 bucks
Bars 2 part oil additive is AWESOME. I had a main crank seal pop and I put that in with new oil. Sealed it right up so I could drive to mechanic. Saved me a tow😀
@@dripdibi3000 I haven't tried Barrs but AT 205 Re-Seal is what mechanics recommend. You can also use it in the engine and transmission for rubber seal leaks. It brings rubber back to life.
