I've only used a warranty on a psa the day it came out of the box. i ordered a nickel boron bcg and it didnt fit their freedom upper (wouldnt go into battery). they told me to send them the bcg, had a new one in three days
I've only used warranty once, and ironically it was with FNH. I had an FNP .40 where all of the trigger linkage broke into 6 pieces and fell out of the gun. Lol
@@gsGs-xb6um Even in 2024 PSA still doesn't swell neck their rivets on their AKs. Those rivets will fail, it's not a matter of if just when. You bought 5 time bombs.
NRCH Scar 17 here. Geissele SuperScar trigger, NF ATACR 4-16 on a Spuhr 1 piece, KDG Extended Rail, Warcomp. Grouped the gun last week, and saw similar accuracy testing M80 ball, and 5 different 168G match rounds. Average velocity recorded through the chrono with 168G ammo was 2430 with Federal Gold 168G SMK's, 2475 with Hornady 168G Amax, and 2500 with Hornady165G SST. Best grouping was a .89 with the Hornady 168G Amax, followed by a .98 with the SST. Federal SMK groups were 1.0 - 1.5 inches (3 different lots). Best M80 ball grouping was with Armscor 7.62 147G, at 1.1". Worst was G&G .308 M80 147g, 2.6". All of this was at 3900ft elevation, 90F in Idaho. Overall very impressed with the scar17 as a "DMR" build, able to get repeatable impacts at 1000 yards using Hornady 168G Amax, and Federal 168G SMK's. - Hope this data is useful.
I had a SCAR17 - liked it a lot. Realized I had $3500++ wrapped up in a gun I had shot like...3 times. Total. Had maybe 400 rounds through it. It shot awesome; but it was effectively the "Show this to my friends - isn't this neat? Remember MW2?" gun. Dumped it and got something I shot a lot more of.
I did the exact opposite. As a larger individual at 6'3, I loved it over any AR I had used, especially kitted out with goodies. It's the main gun I have trained with For over a year now with 3000 rounds through it and I keep selling other guns that sit in my safe.
SCAR 17 is my baby. Would highly recommend the mototech SCARburator. The stock two position regulator works fine but you can really tune the gas with the mototech
I have a Belgian 17 and its been very good to me I love the Mototech 3 position gas valve in conjunction with a slightly smaller gas jet from ppm to optimize shooting suppressed and not beat the gun to death.
I have used a gun warranty once in my life and it was due to remington being terrible with QC and it not loading rounds out of the box. Been running my SCAR 17 suppressed a ton and not worrying about it
@@Manwich526 they say it because their gas jets and gas block are over gassed for the mil and it's easier to say "don't suppress it" than try to account for every can on the market. I will simply continue to shoot my scars suppressed and not worry about it because I'm smart enough to tune my gun
I have a NRCH SCAR-17s. It runs great for me. Mine seems to like the 175 gr IMI Razor Core Sierra Match King OTM. I get 1 MOA at 100 yards with it, and I am using a TA11 ACOG with a bipod and bag on a bench. It's definitely a fun gun. There seems to be a lot of tuning that most people do to run a suppressor. I use a Huxwrx 762 Flow and did not need to change out the gas plug or anything. Runs great.
I definitely haven’t put as many rounds though my 17 as you but I’ve been super pleased with mine. Never a malfunction or any issues with mine. I’d guess around 1k-1.5k is where my round count is. And mostly all M80 ball. I will also say also that after borescoping all my rifles out of boredom one night, the FN barrel was by far the best looking one, and by a long shot. That’s compared to a Geissele, DD, Bergara, Criterion, and some others that are known to be good barrels.
@@taranitup I still have the 16" barrel so no direct experience with 13" barrel. From the data I've seen I think you only lose a couple hundred FPS going to 13" should be enough for out to 800. yards.
@@taranitupI have one with a 13” barrel and have taken it out to 800. It’s not optimal, but it works. However, I admit I’ve only shot M80 at that distance. Milage may vary with some 175’s. You’re looking at roughly ~150FPS loss going from the 16” to the 13”. It’s extremely handy and with the short KDG rail and it makes for a very slick package.
i have owned 2 scar 17s now, the first one was the reciprocating model which i owned for a few years and then i ultimately traded it away, almost immediately after that i bought another one which was the newer nrch model and have had that for 2 years now, in that time i have had it setup for night vision, short range, and now long range. beyond initially greasing and lubricating the rifle at purchase i had not cleaned it all, and that was on top of shooting suppressed for the first time in my life earlier this year. recently i had taken the gun completely apart to swap some internals and was surprised to find that only the center part of the receiver was dirty, the barrel had essentially nothing gunked up in it, and that was considering the fact this rifle had taken several dives with me in ravines during the last 2 years. admittedly i dont shoot hundreds of rounds a range trip, closer to 80 rounds at most, but i do feel like thats still far more then some will shoot 308 ever, so to see it still fairly clean after 2 years plus several months of suppressed shooting, was very impressive to me. speaking of long range, up until earlier this month had i only been using the stock trigger for shooting out to 600 yards and beyond, i am definitely a novice when it comes to long range, but i do alright for myself and enjoy the learning experience. the super scar trigger is an AMAZING upgrade to long range shooting and i cant believe i denied myself this for so long. i will admit that extra rail space would be nice but i have been able to make a relatively comfortable setup with the space that comes with the rifle, for example. my night vision setup at the time (surefire vampire+Steiner dbal i2) fit comfortable on the side rail away from my support hand with a unity axon switch on top. all in all, i cant go back to any other rifle, and i look forward to many more years of shooting my scar in whatever build i have it at the time
Yeah you definately need to get a 20s! I love mine, had it since 2018. Was lucky to get an limited edition low serial number. I'm creeping up on 2k rounds and I couldn't be happier.
I love that the Uggboot on my airsoft Scar-17 has identical problems to yours after the same amount of time spent using it. Its probably just the design, not the quality of the materials
Agreed on the stock. I filled mine with pillow stuffing and it’s solid now. Simple mods of Pmm extended pic rail, flat trigger and kns gas setup. Then have the single dot eotech and g45 setup. Gets it done and haven’t had any problems with optics ever. Use a torque wrench and you’ll be good to go
I have a SCAR 17 with reciprocating handle. It’s the Gucci gun in the collection and over the years I have upgraded pretty much everything on it. It runs great and super reliable and for the caliber delivers a great shooting experience. Recently added a Huxwurx flow through and Scarburatpr for a suppressed action and so far it’s been great.
I’ve had both a 16s and a 17s since 2011. I can’t say I’ve used either as heavily as you have; maybe 2500 rounds through each. Geiselle super scar trigger and some Parker Mountain Machine mods. The 17s wears an Elcan Spectre 1-4 prism and has been flawless. I agree 100% with this presentation. It’s a lot of money but it’s been one (both the 16 and 17) of the best guns I’ve ever used. Zero issues or malfunctions . I’ll be looking to suppress the 17 very soon. No concerns about warranty with any gun ever.
She ain't perfect but she's still one of the best and she's my favorite. I'm not a soldier and i can't even tell you how many rounds I put through it cus I didn't keep track. But its a lot, it's my go to for everything from training to hunting. I've taken down 4 whitetail, 2 mule deer, an elk, a moose in Maine, and i even took it down to Texas to do some hog hunting. The SCAR is accurate, reliable, and lightweight. She's expensive but in my (humble but probably worthless) opinion she's worth every penny. That being said my brother absolutely loves them and owns every version of the SCAR. He's the one who turned me on the rifle in the first place, and why his opinion matters more than mine is because he was one of the many Rangers who tested and fielded it. So should you get one well if you like the SCAR yes if not no. Like i said at the beginning she's not perfect. But the SCAR 17 is absolutely one of the best 308 rifles on the market and imo thee best. It's a battle proven platform used by special forces, military, and police all over the world to this day. It may never reach the popularity of the AK or AR platforms. But love it or hate it the SCAR is here to stay. To reiterate the words of my favorite cyborg "it will make a fine addition to your collection". Thank you for reading my comment it is a long one. Feel free to reply if you have any questions... or just to talk trash that's cool too.
@@walthermodel01 I’m not too sure who you’re calling poor. You’re probably some bum who doesn’t own much🤣I don’t want a scar I prefer Ar’s have fun watching trex arms video tomorrow on the DD5. I got a DD5v4 and the stuff I put on it cost wayyy more then a scar 🤣🤣🤣
Had a SCAR-17s NRCH in multicam. Dumped a ton of money into it, including an assortment of PMM gas jets which I needed for load development and suppressor use. After a couple of years, I realized I just wasn't shooting it as much as some of my other 308 battle rifles, so I ended up selling it to a buddy. Biggest gripe for me when it comes to the SCAR is its proprietary magazine (based of an FAL mag) and the factory trigger. I know you can buy lowers that accept AR-10 mags as well as standard AR trigger groups, but after spending $3600, having to spend another 400+ for a new lower and 250+ for a new match trigger just sucks.
Proud owner of an OG Belgian in the superior rifle color (black). This gave me so much validation. I haven't run mine much since buying it, but I feel I've done it right. SuperSCAR trigger was an immediate must have. GG&G charging handle was described perfectly, and I love mine. I "modernized" mine with PMM MLOK rails. I don't have anything attached other than a VFG, but the MLOK rails are much less bulky than the factory pic rails. I run a Vortex UH-1 and alternate between a Micro3x and Micro6x. I bought it second hand with a Leupold 2.5-10x. I dropped that into a Midwest QD mount and use it during hunting season. It's an old precision scope, bit it's done the job. I have real-life experience in favor of the reciprocating charging handle. During a hunt a deer was in a perfect spot as soon as I got there. I didn't even have a mag in yet. I needed the ability to force the bolt forward to quietly chamber a round. It's a unique situation, but it has proven important. I do run mine on the right side though. SCAR thumb is worth avoiding.
I have used a gun warranty once. I just got my Sig Cross in 6.5 back from Sig two days ago. Sent it in because after about 800 rounds, it stopped ejecting. They replaced the bolt head assembly and ejector assembly. Shipped by Fedex on a friday afternoon and got it back six days later.
In regard to the scope thing, I've read that most of the optics killed by scars were on 2 piece rings. You can see early pictures of guys using scopes and standard rings. Someone also commented that the monolithic aluminum rail on the scar, forward of the chamber, likes to move and twist some. Which would obviously cause issues one scopes mounted forward on the rail. If you buy a good scope and put it in a decent 1 piece mount, the scar will likely not kill your optic. I always hear accuracy reports of scars being better than anyone else gives them credit for. I can't afford to shoot mine enough to really test it, but I like scars.
Great review!! I have a SCAR 17s (Belgium)version I bought it back in 2015 for $2599 new!! So far I put about 2000 rounds on it!! 308 👀prices!! I’ve done similar upgrades and yes I have destroyed a 1-6 budget optic! Word to the wise buy once cry 😢once. I upgraded the gas system to the SCARburator from MotoTech for suppressed shooting so far so good!!
I have a RCH 17. The only time the charging handle has caused issues is a few times putting my thumb in the way or when shooting through windows at a match where the handle actually made contact with the window frame. I've got somewhere just north of 5,000 rounds through the rifle and when I last tested accuracy (about 500 rounds ago) I was getting just around an inch group at 100 yards. That was laying in the sand on a berm with 168gr smk loads. My main gripe with the platform is a lack of available factory replacement parts and when they are available, they're rather expensive. Currently installed is the PMM 2" handguard extension and honestly I'd like to toss the 6.5" KDG on in its place. When working tight windows or slots in barriers I have to get the rifle in rather deep if I don't want to rest on the barrel whereas with the longer piece I'd only need to get a little of the muzzle through a port if needing to rest the rifle for longer shots.
I have a 1-6 VCOG on my 17, its held up well and fits the role. I have an old vltor keymod rail and stock on it. Works surprisingly well. The giessele trigger, and gg&g charging handle are almost required upgrades.
I like mine but I also have an M1A in a Sage International chassis. I think it comes back to buy what you want. We buy stuff cause it’s cool and we want it. I’m not going to argue on accuracy because it’s a semi. Bolt rifles are more inherently accurate. There also becomes a time in any rifle where the amount of money you spend has diminishing returns on accuracy
I got the lower that takes sr-25 mags and ar grips and have loved it. The gun smith did have to do a little fitting on it to get it right tho. A little work on the mag catch and a lil fileing on the front of the lower i think.
I did the voluntary warranty! But I was really surprised when I found out that there was a voluntary upgrade and it was the first time I ever used a manufacturer's warranty. But I will say it went good 👍
Just looked at my unmodified and low round count belgian Scar 16 and the stock is also slightly canted towards the right. So maybe that's already there from the start. It is minimal, but I did notice it after you mentioned this.
Checked my Belgian 17 too, that one has seen a lot of rounds and it has a slight cant too. Put a new FN USA ugg boot on it, same thing. Its off by just a couple degrees at most but sure enough it is there.
I had a scar 17, well I sold it and got the HCAR. I have more 30-06 150gr ball because I reload my ammo. Now I also have the CZ BREN2 308 and I like it a lot more than the scar 17 I had.
You should remove that muzzle nut; it will make a lot more muzzle thread available. Get a shoulder ring and crank down a flash hider without timing. This will greatly increase the concentricity rigidity and reduce the chance of baffle strikes when firing suppressed when things start getting hot.
I have been a SCAR 17 owner for a short time now and I certainly don’t have as many rounds through mine as you have though yours so I haven’t experienced as many issues.
Jsyk the reason FN has an issue with wanting to warranty SCAR17s if you run a can is because over time the rear receiver screws can bend and eventually shear (with certain cans excluding flow through). The only way you’re going to see this is if you run certain cans a lot although I’ve personally never seen such a problem in person via friends who run scars with cans.
SCAR17S GEISSELE Super SCAR Trigger is a must Did the MREX Fore end - got rid of quad rail cheese grater fore-end ADM Mount Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10x32.... which the SCAR did eat\break the reticle on ... but Vortex VIP warranty fixed it Always shot M80 Ball - about a 1 MOA Gun Never any malfunctions eliability is 100% good to go Have had issues with muzzle shoulder \threading with Sig devices- baffle strikes on Sig Cans (SRD762TIQD) I'm never selling it - had it since like 2012... Would I buy it today? Probably not... I'm too afraid to put a thermal or NV on it, because I'm worried it'd eat that too given experience with the Viper issue... plus the market does have a ton more options nowadays
Whether you need to use the warranty or not isn’t the issue. It’s that they designed a weapon that they don’t have enough faith in to warranty. If it didn’t have a suppressed setting that would be one thing. But it does. So it’s meant to be suppressed.
I have a NRCH 17 I probably only have about 1,200-1,300 rounds on it and I will say with the right ammo I surprised myself with occasional group under one moa which I can't really ask for more. I will say my scar doesn't seem to like the 174gr bullets. It seems to like stuff that's similar to m80 but perhaps with a bit better qc. Reliable in the cold Wisconsin winter so far 🤞
I've used my warranty 3 times 365 with striker issues, 320 on the trigger swap and my acr when the barrel lock up had issues. But yeah I agree a few hundred rounds test then toss the suppressor on
When I worked at Royal Range, people would often rent the scar-h. One thing I did notice is that it never jammed or went down on us like some of our other guns.
@@joelerk6298 Mp5SD went down a lot, 240 would go down because the dust cover tabs would bend and warp from being used so much. Acr was never on the wall because it was trash.
If someone made a SCAR lower that takes FAL mags Id be more interested in the platform. Yeah the lowers that use AR10 mags are more practical but the drip of a SCAR 20 style upper running an L4 Bren mag would be hard to match
Scar 17s ,with Elcan 1.5x6 love my gun , and scar 16s with eotech and acog with rmr on top both have super scar trigger geissele. Gotta work for something. Yes, there the peanut butter twins.
I personally own a Scar 17 NRCH (American made) and I will say at least for me the stock has no play. Not sure if it’s just mine or if all the American made ones are like that.
I shoot my scar 17 a lot also it’s a Belgium made so it’s more of a unicorn now. So mine does favor the m80 ball federal lake 149 grain better than some match grade ammo. I Made a couple videos on it and i upgraded my stock to the kdg one and noticed my receiver screws started to get canted i also got kdg rails, geissele super scar trigger and running an Elcan specter dr 1.5x6x. I consistently get .90- 1.2 moa. Living in TN area. That Elcan glass is clear but it’s a love and hate relationship and a whole another topic.
i got my scar17s back in like 2013 for just under $3000. i shot it off and on when i could but i didnt get super serious into shooting until a few years later. i have an ACOG, geieslelele super scar trigger, impact weapons charging handle (just get the gg&g) its easy shooting, lightweight, and good enuff accurate just get a cheaper AR-10 though haha
Just curious, is ammunition the highest expense your videos have? Edit: What is the cheapest ammunition you recommend for training, and what is the cheapest you would collect for non-training? Just overall brand. I know, calibers and missions and needs vary. But, if you had to go with one brand in the lower cost end.
lucas my brother.... its time to start getting some replacement parts on that 17 of yours. unfortunately thats the down side with scars, they tend to wear out quicker the most AR platforms do. however though for how hard you've pushed your scar 17 its lived up to its purpose and its still a great riffle no question about that
Are you guys eventually coming out with a Daniel Defense DD5 video?? If SCAR’s weren’t so damn ugly I’d already own one. I just can’t get past the look of it regardless of how well they function
The NRCH version has 2 charging handles that you can swap sides. One is short, one is longer and angled like the GGG. First mod absolutely has to be a geissele trigger because the OEM is absolutely trash for a $4000 gun.
My 17 shoots just under 1moa with fed gmm 168 and about 1.2moa with the dumpy aac 168 precision load. Now id say i only have about 2k rounds through it since buying it in 2012, so take my info for what it’s worth. Which isnt much lol
