The dentist thing happens to me. I always feel like I have to swallow even tho they have that suction thing in my mouth so there isn’t anything to swallow. I’ll usually just end up swallowing nothing the more I think about it the stronger the urge is and then I get super embarrassed for continually swallowing nothing while the person is working on my teeth 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

I think the having to swallow sensation at the dentist is a mental thing, but obviously like you could have some kind of physical ailment creating extra saliva or making you gag more. it’s most likely just a stress response and hyper fixation that happens during uncomfortable experiences like during dental work. I have to get sedatives at the dentist or i flinch and move around a ton and do involuntary movements with my mouth and tongue so I feel the struggle
