Before she was famous she sang Zerlina in San Francisco with Hrostovsky and von Stade. They were phenom. I went a 2nd time. What singing. A lovely reason to live.
Love the way she uses her voice here. It's almost instrumental in the way she mimics birdsong. That's such a lovely way to illustrate the character's madness.
I saw this exact opera when a local cinema did the broadcast from the Metropolitan Opera House. I’ve seen many operas before, but this is the first one I ever cried at, at the end. Such a good opera!
I think the first opera I ever saw at my local cinema was the production of Madama Butterfly from this same season. I loved it. And I love this one as well
I've seen other Lucia mad scenes, but I always end listening to Anna's version instead... She did a phenomenal job... Her Soft high notes, that this mad scene requires often, are just divine... She has improved greatly in her vocal control... Such a huge fan... People need to realize that if MET decided to make a DVD of this, that means the people of MET recognize her great talent, not just because she has a pretty face... :-)
"She has improved greatly in her vocal control..." She is the top singer at the Met and opera world for years. If she has greatly improved her vocal control there is something very, very wrong. And there is!
GO NETREBKO! She's grate!
I don't think that any of the other 3 soprano queens . Maria Callas, Joan Sutherland or Edda Moser could actually sing this better than the fourth queen of opera, Anna Netrebko. Absolutely sublime.
I have not heard a single mad scene done by any soprano that does it justice. Something about every mad scene... it just doesn't sound like how it is suppose to sound like.
As much as I like Netrebko, and I do like her very much, this is not good at all. Italian bel canto is something else, not what we hear in this video. Her interpretation is not good either. Pity, because she is a wonderful singer, but not as Lucia.
