Lucia Popp "Deh vieni non tardar" (Le Nozze di Figaro -1980) 

Absolutely gorgeous. i don't get why many contemporary conductors feel an inexplicable need to rush through Mozart as fast as humanly possible. This is perfection. I had forgotten how much I loved Lucia Popp. Thanks for the reminder.

Not your ideal Susanna? This woman was BORN to sing Mozart, and it's a shame that most American houses are casting bigger voices to sing this part.

I will always treasure the Decca recording of this opera. Lucia Popp was the greatest Sussanah of all time. She sings this aria so beautifully and with great feeling.

I miss lucia popp ... she's an inspiration! that breath control is out of this world.

My first opera performance in Palais Garnier was this Nozze di Figaro the 28 of june 1980. She was my Suzanna. She is for ever.

This is simply the best rendition of the aria I have ever heard.

this is amazing singing. I think this is one of the most beautiful soprano arias ever; it's apparent simplicity is it's beauty and this is sung amazingly...this is a voice to hear in heaven

wow, i've never heard such explosive applause after such a placid aria!

So much love and light in this sound...in this beautiful human being. Somewhere Mozart is listening & saying under his breath "Yes!Yes! This is how I hear this!!". Listen to that audience response! They have been altered...somehow changed, lifted from the everyday mundane to a higher plain because of Mozart and Ms. Popp's ability to be a conduit for his music. Imagine what it must have been like to hear her live! I am so grateful for technology and all the recordings that are made available:)

Delicate, sweet voice like an angel's... I love this piece of opera for soprano ;)!! I'm working on it and the melody is quite hard to record and interpret correctly...Lucia does it very well !!

I have never really appreciated Popp before, but she is seriously the only person who could make me like this aria. Most especially the second half. With most other singers, I would be bored to death. The applause at the end of this is justice.

i agree - her singing is absolutely beautiful! but look at he expression after 'sul arra' in this same production, she thinks the same of Gundula's singing ...

How wonderful, spiritual and full of grace is Lucia Popp !!! To be in love with her is something natural for some people who love superior things. This is the first time I heard this song. I was actually looking for the opera singer who sang this song in the movie "Becoming Jane" her name is Lynda Lee, from Ireland but came across Lucia Popp. What happened to her? I see those below mentioning "had" and "we didn't deserve her".
