Why I bought the Lucid Air - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CEMvInMzewI.html
Meet my new daily driver, the Lucid Air Dream Edition Performance, with over 1,111 horsepower! Unlike many online reviews on this car, I have spent several weeks in it, logged several thousand miles behind the wheel, hauled my family around town, and experienced things that only owners and long-term reviewers will encounter. So today, I'm sharing an owner's review of the Lucid Air Dream Edition Performance, going over the good, the bad, and the ugly!

I saw a Lucid Air when I was in LA and it really caught my eye. I am looking to get a new car and I have made up my mind to move to an EV. The Lucid Air (The longer range version) is number one on my list. I'm glad I watched this video since it's from an owners perspective and not just from a car reviewer's perspective. When I buy my next car, it's definitely going to be an EV and I'm 99.99% sure I'll get the Lucid Air, if it does not have any competitors with the same build quality and range (a major thing for me since I am moving from gas to EV).

Best of wishes. I'm currently trying to work for Lucid. Trying to get in has been difficult. They are planning on ramping up production and people are on the wait-list for their EV's. So I'm thinking it'll be easier to put yourself on the wait-list now instead of later.

In the luxury space, I found that as long as the service network gives me the impression they wanna make it right, and do so at a reasonable price, I'm happy with that. Machines break, but right now I actually enjoy seeing my Audi dealership every 6 months or so. Been going there for 5 years. We have a relationship. Seems like waiting a year and buying the Touring trim would be a great choice compare to other competitors.I think lucid has a bright future in both EV and car market.It’s a great company.
@blazetechstudios
@blazetechstudios 2 года назад
I have a database of over 350 EVs and their specs. The best value Lucid is the Air Pure RWD. And then, it’s the Air Touring - that would probably be the one I would get depending on how much the price is for a Pure AWD. However, the Air Touring doesn’t come with a glass roof standard; that’s an extra 4K. Not gonna lie; I love glass roofs. Probably worth the upgrade money.
@johnbuscher
@johnbuscher 2 года назад
@@blazetechstudios When you’re at that budget level, for sure. If this was even a $40k, adding 10% of the price for a glass roof seems less worth it. When you’re at 5% or less, it just doesn’t seem that far away. That said, I’m pretty intrigued by the Air Pure. Seems like the Model S competitor the middle class person might be able to afford, and if it really does get about 400 miles on a total charge, this is fantastic.
@blazetechstudios
@blazetechstudios 2 года назад
@@johnbuscher Yeah, I agree. If I have 100k to spend, I'm not going to be worried about 4k. Of course, I don't and to be honest I wouldn't spend it if I did. If I had 100k, I'd probably buy real estate. The specs for Air Pure are actually a rival to the Model 3; the Model S blows it away in every category. The Model 3 is still a better overall value, even with these Tesla inflation prices. But, the comfort and preference is a huge difference here. I would want an AWD version though; they haven't announced how much that will be yet.

Brilliant and amazing review, Jon! Really thorough and balanced overview of everything that a prospective owner would want to know about the Lucid Air, including positives and negatives. I was looking at both the Tesla Model S LR and the Lucid Air Touring (which was the price range that worked for me) and finally decided on the Tesla Model S LR -- the main factors behind that decision were Tesla's charging network, larger rear storage space (due to the hatchback design & folding seats) and the minimalist ambience of the car. That does not detract at all from the Lucid Air, which is a great car in its own right. Hope you have a fantastic ownership experience with the Lucid!

Yeah he probably wouldn’t call people with lower trims or once more of these hit the road but I would like to think or hope, (because I don’t like Tesla and love what lucid is doing and want them to succeed) that he is at least calling or emailing other owners if they have issues. He’s the CEO of a new company that has started off by selling the most expensive trims first, so the type of people buying these cars are probably people he knows, maybe network with or just aren’t people you want to be on bad terms with. If he only contacted John because of his platform but not the others (if they had issues), that would be a mistake on his part imo because now is the time to do it while it’s manageable

It's very nice to be an early adapter. In the past with low technology ice cars it was not much of a risk. If the company goes belly up your could get a collector vehicle. Many parts could be replicated if need be. Lucid on the other hand stuffed with unique low production electronics with required software support. If Lucid goes under, it may become a piece of the furniture.

Somehow, one of my favorite things about this video, is that it subtly prefaced that it's more of an enthusiast experience, taken on by a genuine automobile and tech enthusiast. Which I can really relate to, and I think blends really well into an objective analysis, because there's more of a middle-way, regarding expectations vs compromise. And that's what any car enthusiast is all about. The whole of the experience, is greater than the sum of it's parts, in a non-linear way. I think you definitely sold a Lucid or two with this vid lol, but by managing expectations, which is great. Anyway, nice job. Good video 👍

One major question: Does the lucid loose 1/3-1/2 of its mileage expected when you need the heater in temps less than 40 degrees? My neighbors 2019 model 3 starts out saying 347 miles range, 15 minutes of driving in 30 degrees f drops that to 155. That’s a serious problem that is not being addressed. Tesla says nothing is wrong with the car. They actually suggested that he buy a 22 with a more efficient heater…. Nonsense, their solution was to buy a 70,000$ car.

Man. Really like this review. thoroughly appreciate you acknowledging "they might've been treating me special". The thoroughness is great. It's funny that this is the same in the car industry, though it makes sense since the EV companies are largely tech companies. Sara said it recently, but being able to regularly update, these companies are releasing incomplete software! So the car is amazing with all the hardware it needs, but your left with not having access to all the needed features. Overall the car seems really great and everything I thought it'd be.

Consider that the Air was the better part of a year late from the initial delivery target. Some people had been waiting for a very long time for cars they had reserved. Waiting for software to be really finally 'finished' is a futile task.

Thank,you for a really interesting, thorough and honest review. If I were in position to buy an electric car the Lucid Air is the only one I would aspire to. I think they are amazing and so good looking. They make the models from Tesla look like poorly assembled Lego. When I look at the rear quarter of the Lucid, I see Renault 25 from the early 1980s. And that is not a bad thing.

For their first car (in comparison to Tesla) it's absolutely stunning! Beside your mentioned possible improvements, I'd like to be the motor witch moves the pilots panel more quite. You know, to match the luxury feel, like that moving the screen is basically silent. And I'd love to see a 4 seater version like in the concept cars demo! They looked so good!

Thanks for a balanced, honest, & detailed review. Currently has the Model S on order but am batting with myself looking at the Lucid Air. Don't like the Mercedes Pompous staff attitude so this lucid is looking real tempting. Not dealing with sales people i love about Tesla, seems like a similar experience expected with the Lucid. Thanks Again.

@@rami8896 Which quality issue we talking about that are current in model S Plaid? Yes Tesla had a rough road to where it is now, but quality surely is very good now with the model 3/Y(from china) and Plaid. I bet Lucid will also have it struggles once it start getting into mass production and not hand build these cars for reviewers and first buyers. Having a service person come to you 5 times in 4 weeks is maybe an option now since there only a handfull of lucid cars out there, but in 1 year don't expect any kind of that service once they have over 40k cars out on the road and see yourself making trips to a service center. Basic stuff as support for apple car or android auto should be in a car of this price range. This is where i see where a lot of companies struggle atm, software. If there is one thing Tesla does well it is software, since these cars are software on wheels, the customer will first look at the car overall luxery but than realize that it's actually the software that give you the luxery and freedom. Look at the Audi E-tron GT, a competative car, decent performance and looks very good with the high end luxery of Audi. But the software is so slow, so unresponsive and not prepared for EV(no milage to stations, no or very bad caculation what % battery the trip is, no support for on route charging etc). It shows how far behind legacy car makers are atm when it comes to software.

Good for you, if you only read 1/3 of my comment that up to you. Model 3 issues are with body work, guess what? Those panel gaps can be fixed within minutes. Other brands have issue with more risky components and liability of it. Which is a lot worse. - The Ford mustang got called back for improper placement of the knee airbag. It also had issue with randomly losing power and decelerating for no reason. - VW E-Golf got called back 3 times in 1 month for multiple issues. - GM Bolt got called back for battery problems and a lot more to the point they stopped production. -- Audi E-Tron GT got called back for suspension issues and software issues. The child support seats can be unsafe etc. The list goes on and on. I will take any panel issue over any of the above issues and call backs, who knows how many issues are not seen as a need of callback yet. Mayority of Tesla "callbacks" are fixed with software update while you at home.

@@pipooh1 body work? BS. It’s with suspension, sealing and design. I’ve already had two recalls in the last few months. One with sealing leak, the other with trunk design that wears out backing camera cable. Do you really own a Tesla buddy?

I gotta say, there's absolutely nothing surprising in this video at all, and that's a really good thing. I suspected that Lucid was getting the fundamentals right, and the minor things would be improved over time. I think the car is great, and I welcome the competition, especially in the EV space. I'm glad you're so happy with the car, that's good to hear.

You kept me glued with pertinent information and not useless junk. Any chance you might get a Rivian as I would love to see a video of this caliber on it. I hope the car works out good for you and software glitches seem par for the course on EVs even for the likes of Porsche. I would like to hear more on charging using using the charging station network because that seems to be where many of the issues are. Be Well

Great walkaround and deep drive. Speaking purely on aesthetics, you see a lot of EVs adopting a taller profile to accommodate the thicker floorplan for battery storage and almost unintentionally returning to a pre-war form and shape - think a late-30s Buick, LaSalle, or Oldsmobile with a higher H-point, unusual trunk openings, and more open rear legroom inside. Versus the EQS, I appreciate Lucid took the time to maintain a more conventional dash-to-axle ratio (the space between the firewall and front wheel opening) with a more appealing cab forward side profile. Compare to the EQS to see what a horrid direction Mercedes took. The car has absolutely horrid proportions and - worst of all for a flagship sedan - zero road presence. Plus, the afterthought washer fluid filler door is embarassing.

This was a great review and cinematic production. 💯 That said, there was one inaccuracy with the CoD. The Lucid Air has a .21 Cd, Tesla Model S now has a .208 Cd, and the melted soap bar looking Mercedes EQS is most aerodynamic at .200. That would make it the third most slippery car on the market behind Tesla and Mercedes.
@JDTechTV
@JDTechTV 2 года назад
Lucid doesn’t measure to that decimal point. Tesla didn’t either…until Lucid and Mercedes came out with a 0.21 car. Tesla also doesn’t state openly which configuration of the Model S has that 0.208 coefficient, as it’s not every new Model S. Only one specific kind. Lucid is 0.21 across the line. Also worth noting, 0.208 rounds up to 0.21. Lucid and Mercedes are 0.21. The Model S is 0.208 with a heavy caveat. Regardless, we live in fun times where it’s wild to think any car got to that CoD. 👍🏻

Nice review. Lucid's styling is a home-run. But with cars of the future being a computer or robot on wheels, the software/technology winner will be the overall winner in EV's. For that reason, I've ordered a Tesla Model Y. Yes, I could afford a Lucid or a Model S, but I just can't justify paying over a $100 grand.

I feel like "automatics" and "manuals" will be drive modes in the future, not transmissions. Automatic as in fully autonomous, and manual as in manual override. Which for daily driving or commuting is fine, but manufacturers cannot strip away of us wanting to have control and drive our own cars. They already took the drama and soul out of cars by making them EVs, making cars useless as "therapy treatment" for us car enthusiasts.
@renerobes30

The elephant in the room, with 1.6 million subscribers, you're guaranteed "preferential treatment". Seen this happen with other RU-vid content producers that focus on autos. Lucid shows a lot of promise, with prompt attention to quashing production bugs and flesh out the service end they will be in demand. Nice review.

Powerful but expensive. The general public won’t be able to get their hands on a vehicle from this brand unless they made a more affordable package, but since they are going for luxury I do think that’ll happen anytime soon. So opting for a Tesla or future EVs like Aptera will be more feasible for the general public.
