Funny you mentioned "reading". I made a super effort to read things. And then write things too. It was a whole new level!

It can be extremely difficult! But not always.

Yes, I have sometimes deliberately woken from a dream because it was such a terrifying experience, then I went right back into it with a renewed vigour. I have also had false awakenings; the most intense time was where I had to wake 4 times to get back to reality. It is a really strange feeling when you think you are now awake, but then you see the "dream sign", like, for instance, water boiling for your morning coffee before you even turn on the gas.

That's very interesting. Not uncommon at all, as far as I understand it.

There are also "non-standard" dreams that occur in non-REM sleep. These are usually of a very deep and profound nature, where one moment is stretched to eternity. The one dream I had like this that I can remember was at a beach. It was less of an "ego experience", and more like... I cannot explain properly, but it was like I WAS the beach, in a way.

I used to sleep in 4 hour sleep cycles. If I could get into a second sleep cycle sometimes I would have precognitive dreams. A couple of years ago I had a precognative dream in a lucid dream. Only happened once.

Ok fine, I'll bite and pick this up habit again hahah What you described is commonly known as MILD, I believe. As in, realizing you are dreaming within a dream. Do you practice WILD as well? (Wake Induced Lucid Dream) That being not letting your mind fall asleep as your body does, letting yourself get in the dream "directly". WILD is an absolute trip to go through, but can be very scary at times! The transition is rough! And at times can start off as sleep paralysis in my experience. I was wondering what are your thoughts on this method of lucid dreaming. Thanks for the video!

Yes, I am taking about MILD. I have used WILD before but it's harder and can be a bumpy ride, true. And there is a danger of sleep paralysis, so I think the MILD is the better route. There is also active imagination which is less extreme and you don't have to go to sleep. In any case, share your thoughts with your experiences!

You can also tell yourself/expect to wake up at the end of each dream. Focusing on your physical senses (SSILD is a good technique for this) and then go to sleep. This will make the dreams MUCH more realistic, vivid and memorable. The main thing that prevents you from recalling your dreams is thinking about daily "important" stuff. If you procrastinate those thoughts before sleep, you will have a blank space for the dream memories to imprint into waking awareness before those other thoughts become important again. As for lucid dreaming, the real question is how can some people, particularly children do it spontaneously, with no training? And, what do we as adults have to un-learn to do it at will?

Good points. I've also experienced thinking about vividness in a lucid dream causing it to "light up" suddenly and become more vivid. And you're absolutely right about the waking thoughts pushing out the dream memories.

Okay, but... am I dreaming?

The funny thing is, since I am aware of my own consciousness, I know that YOU aren't dreaming me. But then again, I don't know if I am dreaming YOU. Most puzzling.
