Hey hey! Most of you may know me as a songwriter, but did you know that many of my songs started out as poems? Where songs can be beautiful, poetry can be brutal, and by that, I mean brutally honest.
This is "Lucidity," and I wrote it as a young thing who was tired of everyone around me making strange and unaligned decisions simply on the basis of being in 'love'... an invisible force that I had never felt... and was beginning to wonder if I ever would.
Perhaps life would be better off that way, I rationalised.
Yes, I could be more sensible that way if I wasn't pulled about by the whims of inconvenient emotions. At least, these are the sort of thoughts that make the loneliness easier to bear.
And writing songs and poetry? It turns 'nothing' and 'emptiness' into 'something'... a 'something' that later leads to connection.
We're not as alone as we think we are. Trust me, whatever you're going through... there's a poem about it somewhere. Or maybe that poem is inside of you, just waiting to be expressed.
