One of the smartest moves Netflix ever made was picking up the series because it already had a large fan base and was very well received when it was cancelled
Even though they say the fox/Netflix Lucifer is based on the Gaiman comics there is almost nothing from those comics that carries over into the show. A few names and a few over broad themes, but for the most part the Tom Ellis version is a completely different character based on biblical fanfic rather than any comics. None of the endless show up in the Lucifer show. The only celestial figures that show up are demons, Judeo Christian angels, and the parents of those angels. No gods from the comics or pagan religions appearin the show. Amenadiel is a completely reworked character. Lucifer is at worst careless and arrogant, but he's never cruel or malicious to anyone who isn't an overtly evil or destructive individual. The biggest difference is that in the comics Lucifer, Amenadiel, and Mazikeen don't really care about humans or value human life. By season 2 of the show they do nothing but risk their eternal existences to save humans. Especially the humans they've grown to love. There's more concrete links between the Marvel Civil War comics and the Captain America Civil War film than there are links between Gaiman's books and the Lucifer show.
Very true. They could have made this show as it's own thing by literally just taking away all the Vertigo names like Mazikeen, Amenadiel, Silver City, etc and they would still have the same show without any need to alter anything else. It'd the the same show with the exception that Lucifer wouldn't have had that cameo on the CW shows crossover. This isn't a statement on the show's quality as it's own thing whatsoever, by the way. I personally like both Gaiman's books and the show even though the show isn't really an actual adaptation of the character from the comics. At first it bothered me deeply as i went in expecting to see the actual Lucifer Morningstar on screen but by the second season i had learned to see the project as it's own thing. I'd love to see a more faithful adaptation get their own show. Maybe Gwendoline's Lucifer could get a spin-off. Probably not but one can dream.
If only Bowie were alive and cast. Yet that wouldn't be very "woke", having an actual male playing Lucifer. Yet Bowie may have appeased the alphabet crowd due to his obsession with androgyny.
I loved that LUCIFER on paper was modeled after DAVID BOWIE! In my head I went over all the eps of the netflix series with BOWIE overlaid in the role and it really fits so perfectly! I mean, I think the homie playing LUCIFER now is cool too, but it cool knowing that he's a character who shadowed bowie! Likewise, how cool it is knowing that JOHN CONSTANTINE was originally patterned after STING!

She was good as Lucifer in Sandman, more accurate to the comic than the fox series which was more of a buddy cop show, I never understood DC putting all their properties on separate networks that didn't fit with the characters. CW, Fox, CBS etc does not go well with the DC pantheon of characters. Netflix did a surprisingly good job With Sandman.
Lucifer is the master of deception, it can change shape etc. Also by the time this show was made, David Bowie had already passed away years before, so there was no chance of him playing the role. It's not that big of a deal. She did a good job.
I feel compelled to point out that the Tom Ellis version is just a humanized Desire. Not that I hate the depiction, though they did overcomplicate the show with all the pseudo psychology.
The planet Venus is also called the Morning Star (and the Evening Star). I think it's rather poetic to see Lucifer being played by a woman in Netflix's Sandman!
Me too I have nothing against Gwendolyn she does a good job as lucifer But having Tom Ellis as lucifer is Like Hugh Jackman as wolverine Henry Cavill as Superman or Robert Downey Jr as Iron man What I'm saying is Tom is the most accurate lucifer in terms of charisma and his comic book appearance I'd like to see Tom's lucifer in this series at least once even as a small cameo
@@ethanforrester1998 You can't really compare 1 Episode to 6 Seasons. Sandmans Lucifer is set long before the Series starts and deviates from inspiration.

The show Lucifer is definitely not a part of the same cannon as sandman they're both too different to be considered a shared universe all I'm saying is when it comes to the character most people would think of Tom as Lucifer at this point its like being a fan of rami spiderman and than having Andrew come in the role when amazing spiderman came out yes it's not far to compare one episode of a character to a entire series of that same character at least from the standpoint that both of them are based on dc's Lucifer but people will do it regardless cause there more attached to the show Lucifer than sandman's one. That was the point I was trying to make that people might be upset about the change, given time, though if done right, we might eventually see people have more appreciation of sandman's Lucifer
Tom Ellis was perfect as Lucifer. Gender bending Lucifer into Gwendolyn Christy, a big woman, was absolutely bizarre and stupid, and just looked and felt wrong.
Bruh.... seriously this Ads on this channel have gotten absolutely out of control. I literally got a add every 1.5 minutes to 2.5 minutes on average. I got 14 ads in the time of watching this whole video. I swear i hate this shit now!!!.... and what makes me the maddest is that i found this channel (and others) way before they hit 100k subs. And got to enjoy nice long character studies that had maybe 1 or 2 adds. But now they are just endless with add after add after add.... fucking sucks!!! (Don't get me wrong though im happy these guys get to enjoy success with their work and videos making money and notoriety)

Doesn't matter, she nailed the role perfectly, not once when I saw this and when I do sometimes now, not even a little bit, reminds me of she can't be Lucifer or this is so wrong, I don't even notice that she's a woman, whole time I see her as Lucifer just as I did with Tom. She even reminds me of Hela from Thor 3.

Well they can't make the devil black when we've been told "white man is the devil" for the last 50 years. But they can't make a "popular" character a white male so they compromised and turned him into a chick.
We should remember that angels probably don't have any sex, parts or otherwise. Changing the gender and race of the actors of characters is a newish trend these days, something we are all getting used to.
Sandman lucifer was very disappointing. I still don’t know why they gender swapped lucifer who has always been male for all of history. But if they were going to change him at least don’t make him a white woman. What’s wrong with a Latin or Asian woman? Sandman lucifer was also very bland.
I love the series but I hate the token gender change. He’s always been a man in the comics so why change him to a woman except for making the woke happy. I wish theycould stay loyal to the comics instead of this constantly trying to make a few screaming idiots happy.

I just don’t like how everyone is either black gay or trans. It takes u out of the story and makes it seem like a current event, and not going to be a classic series.
I don't know anything at all about the comics, all I know is that Lucifer was one of my favorite shows of all time, especially after season 4 when Netflix picked it up and it got so dark emotional. Loved every second of it
You should read the comics. They are more interesting and deep compared to the tv show's happy, comedic, and drama-based entertainment. Lucifer in the comics is also a completely different breed compared to Ellis's portrayal.

Considering Neil Gaiman was on board, I can assure you it is consistent with the source control. I like Neil's response was something like "well neither of them have penises". Though, I do with we could get a version with David Bowie.
