Lucifer's Friend was a German hard rock band, formed in Hamburg in 1970 by guitarist Peter Hesslein, singer John Lawton, bassist Dieter Horns, keyboardist Peter Hecht, and drummer Joachim Reitenbach. The group was an early practitioner of heavy metal and progressive rock; they also incorporated elements of jazz and fusion into their music, especially in their fourth album Banquet of 1974. Beyond heavy metal, the band has been cited, too, as one of the pioneers of doom metal, helping to define both genres due to their heavy sound and dark oriented lyrics of their debut Lucifer's Friend of 1970, and returning to their roots in 1981 with Mean Machine, although more influenced by speed metal.

This is from the 1980 album with Mike Starrs as lead singer, not a 1971 song at all.

I was born in 1971 in Germany and WW2 ended just 26 years before. The world was a totally different one in '71 compared to '45. Technology, music, fashion, infrastructure... all that had changed so much. This video is now 50 years old and it feels absolutely not "old" to me like from a "totally different world". I don't know how to explain it better but it feels like it could have been recorded yesterday if you know what I mean. There are still Rock bands around wearing tiger spandex pants or tight jeans etc.playing music like that. 😁 This is much closer to myself than the world from '45 was in '71 for my parents. And for these guys also I assume. They were probably born in the mid or late 40s like my Mom and Dad. The world changed a lot more in 26 years back then compared to the 50 years to 2021. Sorry, I am off now. I just had this weird thought. 🙂

Sorry but they got the date wrong, this is from 1980 not 1971 that is why it feels more modern, as the 80s was the modern glitz era that still is in effect today. The original 71 version of this band was great, this 1980 stuff is crap. If you want to see the real 71 version of this band playing live, look up their classic video for "Ride The Sky" which looks and sounds 1971 because it is, and looks and sounds nothing like this 1980 modern crap. So because of their mistake of the date, your feelings are not valid here, because 1971 really is a dusty dated and very different time compared to today, and its great...way better than 1980. long live the early 70s music and era, not this 1980 disco rock crap style and music and 80s. In that sense you are right that this 1980 doesnt look much different than today, but 1971 sure does. So now go check out "Ride The Sky" 1971 and see the difference clear as day between 71 and 80 and let me know what you think!

This is most certainly not from 1971, but it does appear to be a shortened edit of the song. Perhaps it was the single version, meant for radio airplay.

The year the song was released is 1980 from the "Sneak Me In" album...not 71. That's also Mike Starrs on the vocals not John Lawton. John Lawton was a much better vocalist and the band in 71 was better instrumentally in my opinion (haha).

@@mickeysanker1547 in 1971 the singer was John Lawton, who left the band joining Uriah Heep in 1977 or earlier. He is not Lawton, i suppose this video is 1980 circa.

Gotta admit i bought this for the album cover back in the day : ) Other than the title track i kinda gave the rest a miss. But this is a good tune, reminds me a tad of Genesis for some reason, and it's a fun performance by all, especially Starrs and Horns....and the chorus is brilliant, for whatever music genre one thinks it is!

Not their greatest work, especially without John Lawton, but still better than a lot of stuff in 1980. LF have been referred to as a progressive German hard rock band, and apparently they "progressed" to this style so they could stay somewhat relevant in the 80's. It didn't last of course.
