My mother as a new immigrant in the late 50s said that she learned how to speak english by watching I Love Lucy. It was a family favorite show and we never missed an episode. We were sad when the show ended. Her other ensuing shows weren't as funny as I Love Lucy.
Sometimes you love a man who can't treat you well, it's better to leave and take care of yourself. It's easier said than done unfortunately, I still love my abusive ex.
She was a work-aholic and strong business woman. Desi said that in real life she wasn't really funny, she would rehearse till she had everything just right. I remember an interview with her and Gary (second husband) and she called Desi a loser. 'He had to lose everything that he had.' Gary was looking very uncomfortable. She seemed bitter about Desi and well, yea he was a womanizer and an alcoholic. But he was the one that revolutionized how to shoot a TV show using three cameras. After their divorce Desi sold his half of Desilu to Lucy. Desilu not only produced I love Lucy, "but Mission: Impossible, Star Trek, Mannix , The Untouchables, Yours, Mine and Ours, and was the production hub for dozens of beloved television shows including The Andy Griffith Show and The Dick Van Dyke Show."
@@lyndawilliams4570 I hadn't really thought of it that way, I just saw her as very mad and unforgiving, BUT you maybe right. I always thought that Lucy definitely loved Desi more than he loved her. She was the bigger star and he shat on her and that burn stayed with her for a long time. I also saw home videos ( maybe Lucy Arnaz was showing them in a documentary) with Lucy and Desi swimming in a pool with their grand baby. They seemed to be obviously devoted to the baby, and they seemed to be talking together like really good friends.
When Lucy called Desi a loser - she was saying he built things than had to destroy them - lost everything. Which is what he did with his addictions: Women, booze, gambling. Actually other than that, she always gave Desi credit and spoke well of him. After their divorce, Desi asked Lucy to do another show Desilu was losing money. Then Lucy did The Lucy Show - which was a hit, but Desi had to depart after a few seasons, because her 2nd husband was doing the warmups and Desi was jealous. So Lucy took over as Producer for the show, as well as taking over Desilu Studios. Due to Desi's alcoholism he was making bad decisions and the company was losing money. He sold his share to Lucy and she took over as Head of the company, while starring in and producing The Lucy Show. Under Lucy she green lit Mission Impossible and Star Trek and Mannix. Lucy won Emmy for The Lucy Show in 1967 and 1968. When Desilu was making money under her she sold it for 17 million dollars.
@@RaoulDuke-bc1pm Lucille had good chemistry in the Brown Derby episode. She and Bill Holden were great together in the film Miss Grant Takes Richmond. Also, another favorites like you is Vitavetavegamin, which is my coffee mug: Lucy's picture on the front holding up the bottle - saying, I'm ok, but it's hot in here."
Sometimes you can be so passionately in love with someone but you just cannot live with them Lucy wanted a quiet private but secure life and no matter how successful she was she never felt secure Desi always had to work towards something and always test his limits Oil and water!
Desi had total recall memory. It's one of the reasons he never rehearsed his script. He'd read it once and be done. William Frawley also hated having memorizing scripts and would actually ask for less lines.
She was very beautiful & extremely intelligent- unfortunately men got away with treating their wives badly back then… so glad times have changed for the better 😍♥️💐
I don't think so - Desi was an addict: women, booze, and gambling before he met Lucy, during their marriage, and after it. His 2nd wife Edith almost divorced him too.
Lucy was a brunette, but turned a blond when she was modeling in NYC. Then in Du Barry was a Lady became a redhead. One of the earliest movies I remember seeing of hers was one with Edgar Bergan and Charlie McCarthy "Look Who's Laughing". Very nice black and white movie - Lucy is so pretty in it and very endearing.
If she is largely forgotten - how come you are watching and making comments on her? Also in the last 2- 3 years there was one Documentary by Amy Poehler "Lucy and Desi", and one film, "Being The Riccardos." Interestingly, in the last few years I've looked up and seen many of her movies before I Love Lucy; there are 10-15 I really like. Also about 5 movies from 1950 on I really like. (particularly, "Yours, Mine and Ours", 1968, with Henry Fonda.)
Why doesn't anyone ever talk about that baby she had she gave away because she had just got the I LOVE LUCY show. She felt it would ruin her career so she paid a nurse to take care of her.
It is really astonishing why Lucille Ball first picked a younger ,penniless immigrant ,( , and who couldn't even communicate properly )to marry and then tolerated his debauchery and depraved life style for 19 long years ,giving birth to two biracial children
Lucy and Desi met on "Too Many Girls"and it was love between them pretty quickly. Many women at that time said he was handsome, talented and very appealing. Even before the movie started Desi was in the NYC in a play of the same name. He was getting a lot of attention both in the play and movie - also had his own band - he was not penniless and was in US since age 16 - they married when he was about 24 and Lucy was 29.
