in his inimitable style, perhaps only Cavett could elicit personal information from Lucille that no other interviewer could.

Shes not very appealing as herself. Seems aloof, bored. Very different from the LUCY she played in her shows.

elsewhere in that interview she says she's been doing the tv rounds since 5 in the morning that day, so she is very tired which i think explains the aloofness - a class lady tho - cheers

Cavett was a top Interviewer..But he could be Snide sometimes. Smarmy too.

I think that's why his fans love him. Because he could make fun of his guests but also of himself under any circumstance, but then show that he actually respects them. He's a master of that

I think Cavett pushed the "cheesecake film" stuff and she.. basically turned him off becoming disinterested.

Lucy was great in her day…I Love Lucy was groundbreaking but does not hold up and to be ranked #1 TV show by Variety is an abomination! Also what a shame she didn’t age gracefully…all my critique aside Lucy deserves her place in TV history.

I DISAGREE. Every episode of I Love Lucy holds up for me.

@@January. I loved I Love Lucy - when it first aired in 1951 and it got me thru covid-19. I watched all the episodes and laughed - out loud. Lucille Ball is my favorite actress - not only on tv but also saw about 15 - 20 movies that I also loved. I bought a coffee mug which had Lucy holding vitavetavegamen bottle on it - and gave one to my physician who said she loved it too!

Never understood the appeal of this woman; ahe was rarely funny on TV and comes across as a bit of a lush and a cold fish.

Besides the show being a massive hit when it was first on, she was a major player in the business side of the industry when that was very much the space of men. Even if you don't like her comedy she has earned respect. Not the best showing in this interview though.

You sound totally ignorant - is that what you were going for? if so, mission accomplished!

@@peregrino9154 still, this interview is very different from how she is on the classic sitcom of the 50's, 20 years earlier.

Well obviously her comedy was of a different era, and for her time, she was pure dynamite. Her character in the show was very expressive and innovative for a female comedian. Her show set the standards for sitcoms well into our days. Her humor was dry here in this interview, but she definitely had the chops IMHO 😊.
