Awesome video of a clinic with Eventing legend Lucinda Green! This shows what she's famous for - showing riders how to really keep their horses between their hand and leg by testing them with lots of skinny jumps and arrowheads. You can see how the rider needs to control every part of the horse's body to be successful at these exercises. And that means more focus on the rider's seat and legs to guide their horses, rather than just the reins. And I love her comment, "It's amazing what they will do if you teach them." What are your thoughts in watching this video? (Go to www.MyVirtualEventingCoach.com to read this educational discussion)

Lucinda takes no prisoners because she is the greatest cross country rider there has ever been. She is known to hate dressage but that is what she is really teaching here, the ability to go forwards and come back, collection and extension, obedience to the aids etc, its just that there are now fences and obstacles to contend with.

Sir Mark Todd once said that so much can be learned from watching videos of top riders riding and coaching . This is definitely one of those extremely useful videos.

I like how blunt she is, why go to a trainer who will blow smoke up your arse. She tells you like it is, and if you can't except that well you just won't go any further. Simple and clear. Love it

I wouldn't say she's blunt at all but very supportive. There are some very needy men in that group

s r. She is a bit blunt “won’t be able to do much with this one”, “that horse is ridiculous”. But I agree she is still very supportive

Same preference for trainers like that yes. It's been some time, but I have had a clinic with Lucinda so this video is like a throwback to what I remember.

i watched the 1st 10min and paused and thought what is this woman trying to teach these people? ive never seen a combination of skinnies ridden before and i felt so sorry for the people that paid to enter this clinic. then i continued watching and it turned out amazing. these people r in good hands and don't need any of our critiquing. money well spent!! spectacular job to the guy on the grey, absolutely spectacular!!

This woman has forgotten what most of us have not learned.She is excellent. Only wish she could have won an gold medal in the Olympics, she deserved it. Terrible luck in 1976, Be Fair was withdrawn after cross country due to serious lameness. Later on riding Regal Realm she did well but not gold.She is probably the best female three day event rider GB has produced. I bet her clinics are not cheap.

*Clinic is for people with green horses* People in comments outraged about riders not being perfect riders and not having perfect runs with their horses. 🙄

Come on people, whats with all the criticisim???? They are at a clinic, they are trying to improve their riding. I'd like to see you lot on these horses. Why do we all feel the need to put others down? As riders should we not be encouraging other riders,not belittling them to make ourselves look like we are the bomb.

I agree with houndify and Aussie equestrian... they came here to improve and the poor guy was probably shaken up from falling off. and there's a lot of pressure from the other riders watching him. but anyway, this is a really educational video! I'm not a very confident jumper and this is gonna help heaps!

Hey we watched this video because we had a horse that always had it in him to duck out, or rush.....so we saw this video and thought.....that's what he needs. So we getting out the tools and making a few skinny jump (we can just build the arrow heads with the usual stuff. Will let you know how it goes. But this exercise as I see it is as much for riders as it is for horses. Thanks Lucinda, Janet

She's a lot like my trainer. Very very tough but takes a lot of time when you can't get something right and very clear about instructors. Yeah my trainer can be very hard on me at times but when you do it right there very awarding!

the man on the grey horse did a great job handling the mare, but once she did it the grid without refusing he should have praised her more. I didnt even see him give her a pat. Animals respond better with praise. You need to tell them once they have done the correct thing. He did a good job handling the situation but he just should have praised her. But great job with everything else. Especially staying calm and nott getting frustrated. Shes probably just a young mare still in training. She most likely just didnt understand what she had to do. But Lucinda did a fantastic job making sure the rider stayed calm and she worked him through it very nicely :D

What is the level of riders/horses in this clinic @virtualeventingcoach?? I've loved this clinic since the first time I watched it on here. I now have a horse with the training and confidence to try this. I feel it will be more a mentally challenging exercise (that's why I was wondering the level) than physical for him as he is already unusually adjustable with jumping (haha Ive ridden a lot of forward beasts like the gray so its a nice feeling). Cant wait for my next jumping lesson!! :) Thanks for covering it. Probably 15th time I have watched it.

I think this is a mixed group with some fox hunters in it. She does these same exercises with all levels though! The jumps will just be very small for the babies. It is great for them, teaches them that they have to find a way over, and they have to think about their footwork.

all I saw was two horses and rides who did well...and the rest it was yank, yank, yank, rip, fall off, pull, refuse, yank, refuse, refuse, refuse, yank....I really don't think the grey was being naughty at all, I totally understand why he got so frustrated and refused...every single fence his rider YANKED his mouth completely absolutely NO release! the horse had not one mean look, he was just scared of getting yanked. You could see his frustration by the was he started to nervous chomp at the bit.

The rider of the grey mare is fricken all over the place and is always on the wrong diagonal. He's also way to late on two pointing for the jumps so the horse's distance is way to short to the jump.

Omg in England we ride with a contact 😡😡
@bonnie448
@bonnie448 6 лет назад
There is such a thing as contact and we in the US do it too, the thing is contact is not snatching at a horse's mouth with every stride! If you watch again you will see the Grey objects to the snatch of it's mouth on landing. Thus unwilling to jump again, once the rider stopped doing that, it went better.

That white horse isn't ridiculous she's nervous because she's being pushed by the rider to do the skinny jumps
@emilyware9494
@emilyware9494 3 года назад
no not at all, the 'white' horse (which is actually grey) is pissed off as the rider is socking it in the mouth. Yes the rider is asking it do the skinny jumps but there's really not a lot of difference between a skinny and a normal jump, there both jumps and most horses and riders should be able to jump them. the rider on the grey horse is clearly nervous and hanging onto the horses mouth and not focusing on staying soft and concentrating about jumping instead they are worrying about falling off. when you worry about falling off and are not concentrating that is when you will fall off. the combination just need more confidence

Sorry, there are so many thing this woman teaches that I do not agree with. Most of all, "This horse is rediculous," is about as "rediculous" of a comment any professional can make. That horse particularly was not confident enough to be flung at so many jumps at once. Sure, horses can do anything if you teach them, but they have their limits when they are pushed too hard, too fast, and that's what I saw here.
