I think Lucius is just (are just?) fabulous! The lyrics, the harmony, all the band members 'stage presence' and musicianship and their visual performance, but the stellar music is of such quality and - well, heart-and-mind pertinence - that they astonish. The radio program host's comments about getting goosebumps - likewise! Love this band.
I'm quite certain even if I hated a band live in KEXP studio, I'd still feel good about giving it a time to listen if Cheryl Waters enjoyed it. Her joy is contagious.
She looks happy to be doing what she does, looks like she's really enjoying the performance, and looks like she's swelling with pride for the band. All at once. What a great recording.
Radio stations only play studio recordings and do not have access to live performances which is where Lucius seems to always shine. I would love to have on vinyl the best of their studio sessions and another of specific songs from their full concerts.
From what I have enjoyed and observed watching these videos, I would say Jess tends to sing lead and Holly the harmonies, both high and low. The Live "White Lies" performance at Brandi Carlile's Girls Just Wanna 3 is a clear and superb example of this.
I love Lucius so effing much!!! I first saw them when they were opening for Tegan & Sara. Then, the following year I had the pleasure of seeing them play their own show live. Watching them live is so enjoyable and an experience not to be missed.
I just have to say that if you have a chance to see them live, absolutely TAKE IT! I saw them live a few months back at The Fonda in LA. I can say almost without exaggeration that it was the best live performance I've ever been to -- they just have such incredible energy live. Almost spiritual. To make matters even sweeter, my wife and I ran into them randomly walking on the street right before the show. They're really cute and nice :)
A great performance indeed, it's just a pity that there was more on screen of the backing band, Modern visual recordings are all the same crap these days. too much coke in the industry I imagine
You nailed it when you said, "... when your guys voices just lock I got goosebumps all over my body..." They are beautiful together. It's beyond amazing! Looking forward to seeing them in November in the OC.
Wow! Just Wow Lucius for so many things! Wow for the harmonies, the overflow of Harmonies, wow to the over tones that are so just and precise and the under tones, that are so free in perfect harmonie. Wow to the two Lucius serene voices, that are at time sweet as honey especially when near whispers but always "on" and right on time with this quiet je ne sait quoi in strength Now, also wow for the arrangements, keeping all real and smooth, and also for the melodies that are of a very popish nature, but when carefully inspected one find that it's a bit more interesting than this; It's more like a free work canvas with multi layers of well crafted sounds , effects and ambiance, a la electronica sauce. There Second Album maybe is the only significant recording worth buying for sure this year. Now go ahead and get stung to by Lucious
They didn't do a very good job on the editing in this concert cuz they actually sound a thousand times better they got their mics aren't sinked right.. if you watch the one where they're in Seattle it's unbelievable.
+Casey Music There was no evidence of sarcasm. On the Internet, when you're being sarcastic, add a '/s' (without the quotes) after your sarcasm. Like this: You're a really clear communicator! /s
Whoah. They've really changed their look since appearing on the wild honey pie. They sound the same and I guess every little bit helps for exposure, but it's a little offputting.
Hmm. I really loved their first record. Not feeling this new stuff as much. The lyrics are pretty distracting - so straight forward and well, kinda boring. Some of it reminds me of Paula Abdul! Sorry!
