Luck | Day 2 | Hong Kong | April 17, 2012
The concept of luck is often elusive and undefined, leaving us with an ambiguous understanding. Our definitions of luck are often vague and prone to change. Generally, we perceive luck as a favorable force or unexpected chance that arises without any known cause or condition. However, the notion of what is considered favorable varies from person to person, and we often lack timely information to accurately judge whether something is truly lucky or not.
However, the Buddha taught that nothing comes accidentally or randomly. Luck, in his teachings, is contingent upon certain conditions, yet the ability to deliberately create these conditions rests upon the individual. The Buddhist perspective on luck is directly connected to one's capacity to understand the truth. Therefore, if something leads us closer to understanding the truth, we can consider ourselves lucky.
