To be fair, its not like the other militaries or spies from other nations on earth are portrayed as incompetent or the like, they just aren't on the protagonist's side. As for the fantasy people... I mean yeah they do be some evil fuckers over there but most of their issues come from being a fantasy/medeival society that hasn't come nearly as far along and even our earth ones get their share of shade for doing dumb shit like that One episode that I wont spoil. So I'd say its less propaganda and more like a love letter. And I mean if Bay could do it in the bayformer movies, why not this guy?

@@accywacky2699 eh all the non-Japanese militaries are pretty much displayed as both incompetant and adversarial. That's a big problem. I don't really even mind that the US is portrayed in a negative light, but for them to take the exact same approach in a certain situation as China and Russia is just stupid given the relationship with Japan, not to mention the JSDF defeating everyone else.

This is going into spoiler territory but the americans are one of few that manage to put some special forces soldiers to infiltrate japan during a key operation on their territory, they put up a pretty good fight considering who they go up against. If anything their presence makes the japanese forces look bad as far as I can recall.

Otaku = someone who is "obsessed" with something, doesn't have to be anime or manga or games. but those 3 are what people usually connect them to. you could very well be a fishing otaku or robotics otaku. Doujin = fan-made parodies or original works that are not published in an official comic book or magazine. the creators usually sell them in a booth during comiket(held twice a year). These ranges from parodies to nsfw to alternate endings to completely new original works. Isekai = just means another world. many people think it means reincarnation and keeps giving wrong information to others but it just means another world. 異世界(i-se-kai)異means another, 世界means world. Reincarnation is 転生(ten-sei) 転means cycle[not the sport] 生here means life. Sorry for my bad english.

yep, Alice in Wonderland and Wizard of Oz are Isekai. Many people wrongly call all fantasy worlds Isekai, it's only Isekai if there is someone that does not belong on a physical or mental level.

@@sea-envy3137 some people with loose screws in my country started to create a new genre namely "Native Isekai" lol They completely erased the existence of the Fantasy genre, they thought "Isekai" was a genre and "Fantasy" was a sub-genre when it was the other way around lol. I'm really tired of trying to explain the concept of isekai to them, because they think the meaning of "other world" / isekai means another world from the reader's perspective, even though it should be based on the perspective of the characters in the series 😂

But when that scene was posted in the manga, it cause a scandal and that's why they didn't put that in the anime that was very toned down in terms of gore and very dark scenes comparing to the manga that in the contrary is very gore and dark and the manga I follow since it was released here in France!!!

The manga felt how would literally warring humans would do in wars, no censorship. Just gore, death, war, and massacre that even the mightiest of dragons dies on a C4 explosion.

Yeah! GATE is basically the Stargate SG-1 of the anime. I wouldn't say that it has Starship Troopers vibes other than it is related to military. Oh, and Itami is a fan of doujinshi, which are basically self-published derivative works based on other stablished ips. Think of it as basically fanfiction but sort of looks as if done by the real authors. Some of those are more risque materials.

well, this one has begun with a cool modern premise, but it actually gets a solid mix of hate and love. I have both at the same time. Unfortunately, it seems Luke had a significant memory lapse between when he watched the openings 5 months ago and starting the show XD. At the time he got the premise pretty much right away and the excitement he had for that opening along with the trailer he watched is likely part of the reason it performed so well in multiple polls until it got voted in. But by the time he started, he seemed to have forgotten about the premise.

Luke still wondering what was Itami's hobby even until the end was hillarious 😂 Also, a bit of trivia. . Did you know that Japan technically doesn't have any army? What they have are something called "Self-Defense Force" instead. After the WW2 and Japan lost to the Allied Force, they were forced to disbanded their armies & were forbid to ever makes an active Army Forces ever again through the controversial law made by the USA interferenced in their government.

one of my favorite shows, not very well known but with heavyly positive reviews because it is genuinly good whoever sees it becomes a fan. too bad it is so short just wait until some people start following "art" and this is reverse overlord it really is i wouldn't even bundle that with isekais because it has 3 atributes of main character never present in typical isekai story 1 nobody is getting summoned or reincarnated. itami and band just march in on orders like it is everyday work and they are still connected to our side 2 there is no stupid rpg magic system and levels, which is actually very refreshing, our heroes work with modern technology to kill stuff 3 nothing is holding them in the other world, they can freely go in and out. not sre for how long, but currently gate is semi permanent coridor between 2 worlds so it is another world but also kind of the same since they become connected by the gate. and this is gate i hope you will watch the rest

Basically Japan has three missions for the gate 1. Perform reconnaissance 2. Determine threats 3. Make peaceful contact with the inhabitants on the other site Kinda reminds me of Stargate SG-1. This is one of my favorites, even reading the manga.

As a thought: If you want to be able to listen to the openings on stream and you have your audio sources split up, you can mark specific audio channels as "Twitch VOD track". Anything not marked as a VOD track won't be included in the VOD. You can still hear it live, but not in the recording afterwards. Then, you can just record the stream yourself and use that for your youtube upload.

Dear Luke, you are my favorite streamer right now, thanks for your amazing content. Please let's start watching Naruto, I want to restart it with you. I like HxH, but Naruto is MUCH better than the anime you're currently watching. Maybe start once a week in the beginning, I DEFINITELY believe this will be some of the most successful content. Dude your great you're awesome but please raise your standards, "tomorrow war" is a horrible movie. They stole the Zerg straight out of starcraft and put them in that movie (literal copy and paste). And none of the military stuff made any sense either... (Example long barreled pump action shot gun? To deal with ultra fast-moving enemies in a close-in-environment?) Had me and my other military friends laughing our arses off 😂😂

Please, please do not be offended. There are only 7 story plots, mix and match them, but only 7 total plots in books or movies. All of the above to say, try and watch and experience movies, and music, as a stand along item and not color or contaminate a thing by immediately comparing it to something else. One reactor, watching a movie made in the 1980's, immediately compared it to a similar movie made in 2015, and spent the whole reaction bad mouthing the effects of the older movie and was critical of everything. Most people considered the older movie a classic and a template for following movies, she did not see it that way, and seemed offended she was watching something so old and primitive and she made no effort to hide her distain. I know it is difficult not to compare but please try, or, don't verbalize every thought, comparing now to then. For me, an old man, in his 70's, having the things I grew up with and love, dumped on because the cgi does not compare to today is annoying. I have watched you off and on for years and I like your works, but here you kept interrupting saying you didn't understand, usually a code for why did I agree to watch this. But your followers love this series and you could not offend them, so you kept saying, "what am I watching, what am I watching", usuallymeaning I would rather watch something else. To me simply watching quietly would have been better, in this case. Again, I do not intend to offend, if you are, I apologize. I had hoped to see a favorite series, enjoyed by you also, but watched a masterclass in acting. You did it well. Hopefully you will come to love this series genuinely.

Luke, using luckiest anime character ever to anyone but Cid Kageno is a faux pas, you know (Maybe Captain Tyler, but that is a whole other story, which I strongly recommend btw). But yeah, this is a very entertaining anime, it is a shame they stopped adapting the source material, it was from the early isekai era, so it is rather unique. Also love the dynamic between Itami and his squadmates, such as Kurata.

Gate for me was a 4/10 anime, but closer to a guilty pleasure. I honestly just like the dichotomy of the engagements in battle. I can't say i have a favorite character, but i wanted more of how the fantasy world would deal with the JSDF. How would it change things, that sort of thing.

I love gate, but it brouth to light a contreversy surrounding some anime that are heavy with the JSDF and a very conservative culture around japan, and it old way. GIjoe was like that for america, were it promoted the love of the army in the eyes of kids and was later learn and known faq it was truly promoting the army like cool with there catch phrase and such. Gate was sponsored by a very shady organisation, great anime but push by very old way. trying to bring a nationalist sentiment of pride and to get people to enlist in the JSDF to boost japan defense force. A lots of anime that are heavy on such a topic are generaly all sponsored by the JSDF conservative nationalist. Don't get me wrong i love Gate, but the story is clearly and you will see almost like a promotion of the JSDF force in it self. Like a big commercial if you prefer.

I really enjoy GATE but I have issues with the animation style used in the anime compared to the manga. The manga just feels better and more applicable to what the series is trying to convey.

im sorry but this is one of the few anime as a english speaker that has to be watched in dub. ask anyone rory steals the show and in the english she is so much better. there is nothing wrong with the sub BUT once again for english speakers rory's english VA and lines are so much better. when you compare "are you stupid" to "are you a god damn idiot" and "little girl" to "little mis thing" with a hell of alot of sas, no contest. plus when a demigod calls you a "god damn idiot" thats pretty powerfull stuff.

Point of clarity for Luke that was also being discussed in the chat; isekai means "another world" not reincarnation, that is tensei, which is also often listed as an anime/manga genre, though not nearly as often as isekai. The overlap between the two is very large, but not universal. There are shows with reincarnation into the same world, and shows with characters being sent to a different world without dying, this is the later.

was wondering why he keep making a big fuss and keep saying what is going on .... forgetting he is a civilian for someone who need to do mandatory military service for 2year+ this type of chaos seem normal and easy to follow protocol

I loved this anime when i first watched it. The second or third time though....I saw it really didnt hold up well. Alot of fluff and filler, alot of sections i would just skip over to get to something good. etc. Again...great first time anime, but not something that really keeps me coming back. Best part is the court scene with Rory...lol

The Tomorrow War is a movie about a man going from being a Liberal Progressive to a Conservative - in the prime timeline he abandons his wife and daughter out of disappointment that his dream career as a scientist never panned out. In the future, humanity is on the brink of collapse due to an alien threat, so they send people back in time to recruit people who died either during or before the attacks to help defend humanity long enough to engineer a plague capable of killing the aliens. Over the course of the movie, the main character realizes that his greatest calling is to be a husband to his wife and a father to his daughter - everything else he does is in support of those roles.

I’d hate to say this but you need start watching dubs because you seem to be missing so much of the story because you focused on reading subtitles. It was the both little girls mom who died. It shows her right at the start of the episode shopping with her mother. She was at the memorial with her grandmother. All this you missed because you were reading subtitles apparently. People say subs are better but they ain’t if you miss the nuances of the story.

this is why otakus just stay inside and watch anime. otakus are so above everyone else that conquering the world would be trivially boring. so they better not stop making anime or otakus need will actually go outside and use their skills

I love Gate because of the Military shit. Even doe it's quite "bad" show. It's still the few anime that i watch time to time if i got bored. They consider it bad since MC is an otaku(Weeb) and not a super human

Is the manga edited in English ? We have it in French, and it's even better than the anime (much darker and the drawing is beautiful).
