Highly recommend a 1.5-2" tank lift. Besides it really making the bike's lines flow more naturally, benefits are: more air across the front cylinder head, which greatly improves temperature management. tank mounted gauges are moved to an angle that are much easier to view at a glance, and reduces glare with that big 5 gallon tank it helps reduce wind buffeting on your lower body, which reduces fatigue, which improves rider safety.

I’m 5’5 just picked up a low order that came with 9.5 thrashin supply. Love the look but my hands are slightly higher than my shoulders. Since you are 5’8 with 8. Sounds like 6.5 would be my ideal rise. Thank you for the video

Thanks man! I do enjoy the lucky Dave’s risers quite a bit. Made a big difference
@BikesNThings
@BikesNThings 3 года назад
My biggest fear with risers is I'll lose the ability to really romp on the bike. It's definitely a big difference over stock. I think I'm going to need to ride an FXLRS with risers before I commit to them. At 5'9 I'm really happy with the stock setup (though I seem to be the only one). If you're really serious about touring, cruise control and a sissy bar would make a big difference, and bags of course. Gives you the ability to strap a bag or two on the back on the sissy bar, and put your hands down and relax for miles at a time once you get really comfortable with the cruise control. I recently did a week long moto-camping trip through WV. Didn't shoot any video but it was rough doing it on this bike. Strapping a tent, sleeping bag, then a backpack full of gear was a real pain. If you're touring with motel rooms though, of course you would carry less. The good part is though, once you get to the really awesome roads you're on the FXLRS and not some huge bagger. It can definitely be done. Really looking forward to hearing your update on these down the line. They seem reasonably priced. So many of these companies want close to 4 figures for risers which seems unreasonable to me. They definitely look sweet 👌.
@IronBornRider
@IronBornRider 3 года назад
Thanks man. Yeah the bars do raise you up a bit and it may not be how everyone wants to ride. If you're used to sport bikes, stock bars/risers are probably fine. For me, after a couple hours on the bike my back was starting to ache and my hips were locking up (I'm gettin old lol). You're absolutely on point, the FXLRS is such a good base, it can really do it all and then some. Thanks man!

@@IronBornRider So, when I was on my trip last month I was doing about 500 miles a day. I don't know if you have passenger pegs, but I found myself standing up on them quite a lot. I'm in my early 30s so I feel the miles a lot more than I used to. Being able to stand up on the bike for 10-15 minutes while still riding made all the difference. It's incredibly awkward to do without the passenger pegs though.
@IronBornRider
@IronBornRider 3 года назад
@@BikesNThings I do have passenger pegs but I never tried standing up on them. I might have to give that a try. On my sportster I used to just stand using the mid controls which was a little weird.
@BikesNThings
@BikesNThings 3 года назад
@@IronBornRider Try putting your left foot on the passenger peg and your right leg on the front right peg. Should be even easier with the bar risers. It shouldn't feel too sketchy. Maybe the first time but that's it. It gave me the ability to keep riding when I really felt like I wanted to stop and take a break.

@ellissmithjr6599
@ellissmithjr6599 3 года назад
After doing some Long distance riding... You may wished that you went a little higher (12") Your arms are still extended and locked... After a long period of time you will get more relaxed and lean back a little more... The stretching of the sholders will be punishing.Eventually this stretching will cause you st start leaning forward to ease up the pain in the shoulders which will also lead to your back to start getting fatigued... Many make this mistake in always having the fear of going too high...
@IronBornRider
@IronBornRider 3 года назад
you're 100% correct, and I've been thinking about this more lately and was actually thinking about doing a follow up video. Never having risers on any previous bike, I didn't know exactly what length to go with. If I straighten out my back all the way, my arms come down quite a bit, and I'd prefer to keep it a bit straighter. Thanks for the comment, we live and we learn!

@IronBornRider
@IronBornRider 2 года назад
My personal opinion is I don't think that size would work for you. If you're 6'1 I'd think at minimum 12 inch. I'm 5'8 and I actually feel like I could've gone a little higher at 10 inches so that I can straighten my back all the way. If you have someone that can help measure, that would be the best way to figure out the height you want, so that you can sit on the bike and raise your arms up to a length that you're comfortable with. Hope that helps!

They seem like good quality risers but I really think you should have gone with black! I mean, they look okay. They don’t look bad, but I just think they kind of stand out too much. Maybe a combination of black riser part and gold on the clamp part? But it’s your bike and if you like them then that’s what matters. Not trying to be a bummer or anything, I just like black I guess.
@IronBornRider
@IronBornRider 3 года назад
Yeah I hear you, I went back and forth on it myself. In the video you can see the whole riser which can be loud, but in the photos of the bike you only see a little bit of the gold even if the whole riser is gold. I'm still pretty happy with the decision, this will probably be the loudest piece on the bike anyway since almost everything else is just all black. Thanks for the feedback though, appreciate you bro.
@robbyclark6915
@robbyclark6915 3 года назад
@@IronBornRider Yeah, it does look good. I mean it’s just a matter of taste. But the decision does necessitate that you add more gold pieces throughout the bike to blend it all together. Which I think you said you wanted to do anyway so probably a good decision for the direction you’re taking it. I’m just not a fan of the gold thing. If you watch blockhead he does a bunch of gold stuff to his bikes that everyone really likes….except me I guess? I just don’t care for it. Reminds me of fashion from the 60s. Like gold drapes or a harvest gold refrigerator or gold upholstery on your chairs and couch.

To be honest bro those bars are definitely too high for you to be able to manhandle and control that bike especially being a newer rider that’s not super experienced that doesn’t have 20 years in the saddle… The pullback plate would’ve lifted the bars of 2 inches and back 2 inches which would’ve been perfect and only would’ve costed around $200….
