JOIN US FOR NWLCC PRESIDENT'S DAY ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 6 AT THE WHEATLEY OVAL (DN22 9DH) - mini test match featuring your favourite Wheatley players, face our bowling machine, eat nice food, quaff drinks from Jimmy's Bar and meet the ACTUAL Jimmy Nixon.
The weather. THE WEATHER. After a few months of clement climes, the British 'summer' has revealed its true self over the past couple of weeks and Saturday was no different.
We had a howling gale, driving rain, fork lightning and booming thunder ravage our top-of-the-table clash at Anston, but inbetween the stoppages there was some scintillating cricket action to gobble up.
Expect Tongy-getting-impaled-by--a-metal-spike news, box office batting and the saddest fair you have ever seen.

A sad day at Stanton Towers, cancellation of my Netflix documentary "The Man Who Named the Bar at Wheatley", no One Show appearance and a string of local village fetes that I was going to open. Hope Jimmy's happy with the vote, another victory for corporate muscle over the little guy.

Crazy weather! We played a few miles away from you at Carlton-in-lindrick, had our cover sheets on and off 3 times. After a proper drenching we managed to get the game done at about 8pm

Everything is rosy when you are winning with your number 4 and 5 bats opening the bowling too. When you start losing you'll find that the fill in players suddenly aren't quite so enthused to turn up.

Thank goodness for rain once Pecky, because Wheatley were in for a hammering. 1 for 1, 2 for 2, 3 for 3. Who knows it might have been worse. I bet the Wheatley boys didnt help with the gardening. I wouldnt lol. Still unbeaten roll goes on. Wouldnt it be great if you win your game in hand. Luckily you dont have to play that super team again this season. Their overseas is dynamite with both bat and ball, and that catch that bounced before he took it lol

Well played Aston. A superb exhibition of batting and bowling. The weather played a big part in helping Wheatley. 3 for 3 off 3 overs was looking bleak. 8 points is better than losing the game. Still technically unbeaten then!

Officially unbeaten in 8 games, Pillers - let's not have any of that technical nonsense! That's cricket, I'm afraid. Very few sports are dictated to so entirely by the weather and we were lucky to get the overs in that we did. Anston were superb. The pattern for as long as I can remember is that we thrash them at ours, they thrash us at theirs!

🤣 Cheers SJ and yes, I occasionally manage to follow the ball if you’re lucky (my eyesight is that of a particular myopic bat). We use the cheapest HD camera money can buy (about £600) which is a Canon EOS 250D with a 55-250m lens as the action can be quite far away. Hope that helps!

Sure was! Tongy out for a few weeks, Smig has a side/lumbar strain - no idea how long he'll be out for but he's a bustling seamer who'll need to use those muscles so could be a while. Big blows but we've got lads ready and willing to step up. If you want to get promoted, you need to ride these sorts of situations out.

Pretty disgraceful from Umps and Players for Toppers dismissal. Sometimes the fielder doesn't know (but more often than not, you do), but very clear for anyone else with a few yards. Poor form.

Lucky escape most definitely Peckers, great batting display by Anston, their overseas should probably be playing at a higher level, averaging 54 with the bat and 10 with the ball, very much a big fish.
