LUCY DACUS - HISTORIAN ALBUM REACTION 

i have been waiting for this one cause lucy is my fave from boygenius so ill give you a quick rundown of what i think the songs are about in case you're interested! Night shift: breaking up with someone but living in that weird space where you still think about them all the time addictions: staying in a relationship out of habbit the shell (my fave): creative burnout and sorta self-sabotage because you feel you can only create when you're sad so getting out of that headspace nonbeliever: there's a lot in this one, she left the church so it's a bit about that but also nonbelief in other ways like in a friendship yours & mine: lucy's from VA and this was written about BLM protests and realizing the people you grew up around (yours) don't hold the same value as you and you're friends (mine), (reading the lyrics with this knowledge makes this song HIT especially now) body to flame: being in love with someone who is self-destructing for you, one time a friend told lucy they were gonna light themselves on fire one day timefighter: coming to terms with your own death next of kin: same as timefighter but more optimistic, sorta a "yes I'm gonna die but that's ok I'm gonna enjoy right now" pillar of truth: watching her grandmother (a pillar of truth) pass away (turning to dust) and Lucy really loved how she died "strong and composed" and learning from that historians: accepting loss in a relationship and carrying each others stories

this album has been on repeat since I've heard it, I only discovered Lucy around November of last year and I'm looking forward to more music from her. I can't pinpoint if she reminds me of anyone but she's just a great artist.

For me the album is about how people carry each other through time. It starts with a break up and ends with the death of a loved one, but it’s not merely about reckoning with grief. She said the album grapples with hope, and that she sees it as a relationship to time, a way of negotiating with the future, and a vessel for moving forward. If you liked the Boygenius girls you need to react to Big Thief ! Amazing band that also gets insanely better with every album. Their debut ‘Masterpiece’ is full of bops.

Yay, Lucy's reaction. My favorite song from this album is Historians. I think because Lucy's voice is very soothing, soft and delicate, songs with very little instrumentation emphasize the power of her interpretation best. I love the heavy guitars too tho. Her music has a very distinctive sound. I died with the “she’s a psychopath” lol. I heard in an interview that she really likes to write long songs. My favorite from No burden, her first record, is Map on a Wall and it’s 7:28 minutes. So yeah xD! I can’t wait for her new album. It sounds different from her previous work.

i skipped this one cause i hadn't heard her yet, and i actually got to know Lucy from your reaction to Home Video, and now that i have heard her discography a million times, went back to this video :P

Night shift is one of my very fav songs!! Yes king!!!

Timefighter is about accepting your mortality and more specifically the death of her grandmother. So no quite as sexy lol but the music definitely gives that vibe, the lyrics not so much haha.

You’d probably adore Declan McKenna’s first album “What Do You Think About the Car?”!! It’s a masterpiece, especially for a debut.
