I used to have really “oily” dehydrated skin but once I started using hydrating serums, moisturisers and oils after ditching matte products, my skin changed and now it’s so balanced and always has a healthy glow
Even when I had combination skin, I couldn’t even imagine not using a ton of hydrating and moisturizing ingredients. I hated the feeling of stripped skin. Hydrated, glowing skin is truly the best feeling. It really gives you so much confidence.
Hi Susan. Love your videos. I’m a guy and am not that good at skincare but trying here. I’m probably not doing it right but it’s going ok. Thank you for all the hard work ❤️
same just started ! my advice to you is to understand that there is very little advice aside sunscreen that works for everyone. Find out what works for you !
I remember my skincare mistakes... I thought my skin was oily and I would apply clay masks almost every day, use aloevera gel instead of regular moisturizer and clense my skin with a harsh foamy cleanser TWICE A DAY... And my skin was even more oily and shiny because it just begged me for moisture. Jeeez it hurts to even think about it.
I loved the in depth explanation of the order of her serums. That was amazing and helped me solve my morning routine questions with the products I normally use. I’m going to layer my acid before my vitamin C like Susan suggested and see if I can tell a difference in my skin. This was super informative!
I agree, it was great bit of the info. I also heard Dr Dray mention it once in her video, basically vitamin c liked that acidic ph so I use my aha toner in the morning and I follow it up by vitamin c.
@@datgreekgal Absolutely. . I will be 34 this year. My skin is very fair so all my life I have worn sunscreen when outdoors. Now it’s regardless wether indoors or not. Aside from current hyperpigmentation from maskne my skin is great no sun spots. Worth the preventative measures I took in my 20s.
You are so correct about the eye drops! I used to be an optometrist assistant, and the doctors would always say not to use rhoto or visine, because they constrict your blood vessels which is not healthy for your eyes - instead they suggest using artificial tears and to store in the fridge for cooling effect
Question for you please Tristian - I just bought a bottle of Visine but it's the dry eye relief rather than the red eye version. Is this one as bad to use regularly or just the red eye ones?
My experience was that when I'm wearing a small amount of makeup (I'm always wearing a ridiculously small amount, I prefer when it looks really natural, in 'my skin but better' way), it makes my (usually both dry and dehydrated, sensitive) skin feel, in a way, more protected. I've noticed that it is way less dehydrated and dry by the end of the day and there is less redness and iritations overall, especially during harsh winter climate where I live. 'Let your skin breathe' is just an old wives tale, I just choose to ignore it. 😄 As long as the night time routine is appropriate and your double-cleansing system is efficient, wearing any amount of makeup won't disturb your skin and/or skin barrier at all.
I definitely feel like my skin was better when I worked at Saks at the counter, and always had a good amount of makeup on every day. Lately, with the pandemic and not working, I definitely feel like my skin isn’t as moisturized and I touch my face way too much now. The makeup kept me from touching it.
THANK YOU SUSAN I tried skipping makeup at the beginning of 2020 and my skin got worse. Tbh when I wear a little makeup I touch my face less so that my makeup doesn’t get messed up 🤷🏼♀️
@@9melissal this is my worst skincare habit - I don’t 🙈 I know Susan has a video on how to reapply sunscreen over makeup though, and a few companies make powder spf for that express purpose! I work remotely at home in an office with no windows, so I see so little sunlight on the day to day that I’m not concerned with it, but do reapply when in the sun and outside longer
You can see she definitely didn't use enough, she used like a pea sized amount and you want to be really covered and I wouldn't rely on the spf of any foundation because you would need to use a ridiculous amount to get to the coverage they claim to have. It just seems weird to me that any of her dermatologists never explained her how to apply sunscreen.
@@karly.asshhh yup, but this is why I do two layers - a layer of SPF 50 sunscreen with SPF foundation on top. But I don't think you need a 'ridiculous amount' of foundation to have the SPF it claims, because you don't use a ridiculous amount of sunscreen to get the SPF either, just a decent layer coverage.
@@sethm3856 yes but a sunscreen solely has sunscreen ingredients in it, a foundation will have SOME chemical/mineral spf but its still mixed with some other type of ingredients that are usually found in make up products so you are not getting that level of sun protection benefit far as I know😬sorry I dont know the exact science behind it, Dr Dray explained it in a video once
Yes, love this reaction video! And I've been following Dr. Alexis Stephen's advice on the order of my morning skincare for about 2 months and it works perfectly: BHA then Azelaic Acid then Vitamin C 👏🏻👏🏻
MY SKIN GETS BETTER WITH MAKEUP, TOOOOO!!! I hadn’t worn makeup for over a month because my husband was deployed recently and I’m just exhausted, but this last week I started wearing it again and it’s almost like my foundation is holding the moisture from my skincare in even more. It’s weird. Idk but I noticed it started getting more moisturizes and breaking out less because I struggle from dry acne prone skin.
@@hayleyquagliano2883 No worries. You were right about the fact that foundations with SPF add extra sun protection. I'm a skincare snob myself so I support fellow snobs, even though you weren't being one lol.
@@gp2671 haha cool, thank you! i also try to be as informative as i can without seeming judgmental so i’m glad i was able to do that :) and i’m glad you e got a good routine down :)
My theory on the makeup thing: my skin is better when I wear makeup because I touch my face less! I already try hard not to touch my face, but if I have makeup on I touch it even less because I don't want to mess up my makeup
I had the same experience at the beginning of Covid. I had to start working from home and I stopped wearing makeup and my skin did NOT appreciate it. After a couple months I started wearing makeup and my skin went back to normal. It was frustrating, but also very interesting. Good thing I like makeup. Thanks for the video! 😊
The way Lucy is rubbing her face so aggressively after pin pointing where to put that hyperpigmentation serum like it’s all just mixing together at this point haha
I recommend hot and flashy on RU-vid. I have followed her advice and I love all products I have tried that she recommend. Most stuff is affordable too. Also she has a video about the led at home therapy. Id like to try it myself. My skin has been great
Someone send this to Lucy!!!!! She’s so sweet I bet she would actually benefit from seeing this video, her routine needs constructive criticism and more sunscreen!!!! She needs to know 😂😂😂💕
So true about makeup, during the first lockdown in spring my skin was getting worse and worse. Luckily, it encouraged me to finally start seeing esthetician regularly after they were allowed to open, which made the biggest difference ever
Hi Susan - LED Mask wearer here! you should typically only wear the Mask after cleansing and only on a clean face. This is common guidance for LED masks and for anyone reading this - please do NOT use serums, acids, retinols etc under the mask.
What do you think of Khiels oil free water cream for someone with a history of cystic acne after using khiels calendula cleanser-niacinamide-the inky list retinol serum-khiels water cream. I feel it’s working and I’m not breaking out in large painful cysts but want to make sure there is nothing damaging
We are advised to wear loose clothing when out in the sun, to cover up as an additional way to prevent sunburn. Isn’t foundation, concealer, powder, etc the skins version of this? Things that I think about in the middle of the night when I can’t sleep :)
THIS VIDEO! So "illuminating" (?) The myth of skin breathing, the versatility of HA and the potential maximization of benefits by putting it on top of the other actives. So fun! I love your personality so much.
I know people say u can use Acids and Vitamin C together, but my skin gets really irritated and red... Well atleast I found out my Vitamin C is working lol
Susan!! I absolutely agree with you! My skin does worse when I don’t wear makeup. I think it’s because the makeup acts as a protective barrier from the pollution and dirty air of the world. Totally agree with you!!
Foundation recommendations for acne prone skin? When I don’t wear makeup my skin improves over time in terms of acne/clogged pores. But I might be using irritating products!
Wasn't she 14? Because I know that Troian (Spencer) was 25 and she is 11 years older than Sasha. Ash and Lucy were 21 and Shay Mitchell was 23 I think. Still, 14 was the only age appropriate casting on that show.
I love your skincare reaction videos! Just one thing the chopping of your videos is getting a little extreme, it’s starting to feel like you are saying one word the cutting to another clip for the next word. Like one of those clips that make politicians look like they are saying naughty things 😅
If my skin gets better from not wearing makeup, it would make me wonder if there is some sort of sensitivity or allergy. That or if you're not taking all of the makeup off completely, it might be a cause of irritation...
Vitamin C serums darken over time. It's probably (hopefully) almost gone. If it's that color when you first purchase it then it's been sitting on the shelf too long.
Why people who have money and reason (being an actor or a singer is a reason to look your best) to go to esthetician are still making mistakes like that? Aren't they teaching them? Aren't they listening? Because they have bad memory or because they think, that they already know everything??? Or they just don't really care?
I used that one and it's not supposed to be that orange. It's so oxidized, she doesn't even know it 😩 Looks like she exposed the bottle at light or air too much because mine doesn't oxidized and usually lasts for 3 months
Just assume that lucy doing the morning routine just for the purpose of the shooting. It might be 3 pm when she is shooting this morning routine hence the mascara
Susan, kindly tell us what products/treatments would you recommend for removing deep set black heads? For I reckon the chemical exfoliants may not be able to get them out. 😅🤓 Also is there anything in your regime you use to keep them at bay altogether?
Timeless brand on Amazon has a good Skin Ceuticals dupe w/ 20% L-absorbing acid (Vitamin C), Ferulic Acid, and Vitamin E for a fraction of the price. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps build collage, but no one really knows how much we are absorbing and getting into our skin topically 🤷🏻♀️, but everything helps. The Ferulic acid and Vitamin E, extend the life of the Vitamin C.
LED lights for 5 minutes, wear a jelly mask for 30 minutes, yikes, a hundred steps later I would be late for work every day. This can't be what she does everyday!
I have a question about serums! So I'm 26 years old and started noticing fine lines on my forehead and jowls as well as very dark circles under my eyes, and I was wondering if I should start applying retinol to my face. What's a good, affordable serum you would suggest, or a healthy percentage that I should be looking for? Also I do have a 10% pure vitamin C serum by Cerave that I was reluctant to use because I wasn't sure if I should use it everyday or even how much I should put on my face. How often in general should I apply these serums? Thank you!!
Omg YES! I breakout when I don’t wear makeup for a few days! It’s nuts! It “breathes” when I sleep, that’s good enough for me. Lol. Also, according to Dr. Youn, he said that a moisturizer is only to make your skin soft, there are no benefits to using it. So yes, it makes your skin LOOK and FEEL softer but it doesn’t really “DO” anything. (Like HA, AHA, BHA, niacinamide, etc.) What are your thoughts on that?
As an esthetician this routine made me cringe so many times lol The order of products was not ideal... PLEASE wash off your makeup before bed. Also if you can refrain from using makeup wipes don’t use them as the rubbing action can further irritate the skin and cause aging. Double cleansing is the best
