Lucy Raven, Curtains, 2014
Anaglyph video installation, 5.1 sound, duration: 50:00 min, courtesy of the artist
"Observing the recurrence of 3D cinema in the 2010s, Lucy Raven traced the digital networks through which 3D conversion takes place, depicting workers in China, India, Vancouver, London, and Los Angeles as they convert Hollywood films from 2D to stereoscopic 3D in a labor-intensive, frame-by-frame digital process. In Raven's anaglyphic video installation, two images glide toward each other along a horizontal plane, triggering the spectator's desire for optical fusion and reminding us that 3D is fabricated - both in the film industry's labor networks and in the individual's visual system."
