You just don't understand the mental power of this character. Its not about solid snake rekd him or not. Venom Snake was not genetically engineered , he was most casual human soldier but with the greatest heart and dedication. Without him there won't be a legacy , there won't be a legend to tell. He was the missing piece in puzzle , he and ocelot.

I lost half my left leg to an IED in Iraq, so I know all about phantom pain. Still hits me every once in a while, even lose sleep because of it. Listen to the lyrics and it's as clear as day that it's about.....well what the title of the song is lol. "I feel your presence, you'll never leave me here". I still feel what i lost. I'm an old school MGS fan and loved this game. Love this song and appreciate the 80's vibe lol. One of my favorites.

this song is awesome. it's ridiculous that it wasn't used during the game's intro or ending credits. totally has an "intro" feel to it. not sure whose decision it was to simply keep this as a "bonus" track of some sorts.

I'm obsessed with this song. It's so fitting for both the game and what I'm feeling right now, this whole "Phantom Pain" makes so much sense now... Almost three months later and I still can't get over MGSV, finishing the game made me realise no other game will ever be as perfect as Kojima's legacy of games. MG was a trip that I took for a long time, one that I've being travelling along for more than half of my lifetime. And now, in the moment that I reached the end of it, it's so damn hard to say goodbye...

Out of all the 80's aesthetic games coming out, MGS5 is the only one to really capture how the 80's felt to me. The music takes me back to when I was 10 years old and playing the first NES MG game. This song in particular has a very convincing 80's sound although the growling parts caused me to be suspicious enough to check online. To me it felt like instead of bringing me back to MSG it took me all the way to MG, but that is probably because of my age.

This song takes me back a while to a sadder part of my life. I found myself listening to this song after ending a long and emotionally invested friendship that had gone sour. I had hoped that we would both learn something from the experience or felt something. To me I had lost a big chunk of myself for a while. As for my friend. She didn't lose a thing. I hoped I could at least matter to her in someway. But alas it seems like this phantom pain would not find closure for a long while.

My Dad passed away the year this was released. Played the cluck out of MGSV and this song when it launched. Both great. Brought tears to my eyes listening to it again tonight.

WHY didn't they play this for the credits of the Truth ending?!

I been listening to this song a lot. I relate to it so much due to losing someone special. She changed so much, I don’t even recognize her anymore. She’s just a phantom pain that won’t go away.

In my headcanon I like to think that Venom survives the battle with Solid Snake, though he's heavily injured and pinned under some of the wreckage of Outer Heaven. Then Quiet, who he hasn't seen in years, lifts up the wreckage and frees him, taking him away and nursing him back to health. The two then disappear into the sunset together, their fate unknown. The game only tells us that Solid Snake kills Big Boss' 'phantom'. This could mean that Venom is indeed dead, or ... that upon being defeated, his role as the phantom Big Boss was over. The real Big Boss was forced onto the world stage at that point, and Venom was his own man once more, his mission complete. In the latter scenario, it's possible that he survived. Yeah, I know, it's sappy and cheesy. I don't care. Venom Snake suffered enough. He deserves a happy ending.

I see some people here saying "This is a song about how Venom Snake disliked being the phantom of Big Boss. In my headcanon, I think it's more of a message to Big Boss, saying that Venom will accomplish his mission, but doesn't want to be his Phantom forever. You know that comic where we see Venom Snake in Outer Heaven, as he was just defeated by Solid Snake (in the 1st game) and talks a last time to Boss before he disappears forever in the ashes of Outer Heaven ? I think that song means the same thing. He is Venom Snake, he is Big Boss' Phantom and will do everything to accomplish his mission, but when all will be over, he'll just want to be himself again, a last time, and no longer have to bear the name of Big Boss. So, yeah, this is my headcanon

none of my friends, and I mean none, are fans of or play Metal Gear. I grew up on it and like many of you am obsessed with the franchise. Going through the comments and reading how many of you share the love and same thoughts about it just made me tear up. I fucking love it.

When I played the game, I didn't think about this song that much. Yeah, I thought that it's okay, maybe a little strange to include into an MGS game. But now I understand it perfectly. I fucked up really, really bad. I've lost everything and hurt the most dearest people, who loved me and believed in me. I've lost money, home, faith of my parents and the faith of the person, who truly loved me. And I've got no one to blame, except myself. And this song perfectly encapsulates this feeling. It's an endless void, where you feel like your loved ones are near you, your life was always about having them near you, but now it's no one there - even though you still have memories, you can't grasp them anymore and you can't do anything to fix the damage you did. Time goes by, you become more "present", you begin to understand that there is no going back - this is your life now - empty, miserable, lifeless casket. But you made it this way yourself. You're here, stuck grieving your past self, "in the world of your own design". It's an incredibly poignant song about loss and guilt - and, to be fair, it sucks that it's stuck now as this meme song from MGS. It deserves a lot more attention. Thank you, Ludvig, because it makes pain a little easier to bear. One day it all will be over. Maybe you won't get back the people you've lost, but at least it won't hurt as much as it does now.

Whenever I hear this I imagine a training montage of how Big Boss went from rusty and emaciated to ripped and badass on the trip from Cyprus to Afghanistan. Putting on his robot arm for the first time, then crushing a metal mug in his hand like Ash in Army of Darkness. Doing pushups with his real arm while Ocelot watches in the shadows, monitoring the progress of Venom Snake. Running on a treadmill with all these sensors and electronic stuff attached to him, like the 6 Million Dollar Man, and a heart monitor beeping along to the tune of the music. CQC training with Ocelot. And as the music gets more intense, he gets better and better. Runs so fast that the heart monitor just explodes. Starts beating Ocelot in his CQC sparring. Goes from barely being able to do a few pushups to pumping the ground like he's moving the earth. Ends with him looking at himself in the mirror, ripped, scarred, and cybernetically enhanced. Then the camera focuses on a picture of Kaz tucked in the frame of the mirror, and Snake just looks at the camera determined as he punches the mirror, and walks off on to his first mission in almost a decade.

Many years have passed ... still the Phantom Pain is inside me ...

This song makes me feel for Big Boss being an unwilling figurehead that he is. This song makes him sound terribly lonely. I think since the Boss died he's been drifting along in life. Makes me never want to take a life when I play boss.

A person who understands that a significant someone and the past they represent are long gone without any hope of coming back. And yet they still address them as if that person is still around with expectations set to achieve for coming back or at least any other kind of relief. Meeting with reality and discarding it for delusions as some sort of string that helps to keep on trucking.

i destroyed sahelanthropus with this song... ...every night i can see kojima finishing the developlement of the game...and my self...playing. The story I´ve lost...the epic soundtrack I never heard......won´t stop hurting. It´s like, if the game...could be even bether.

Easily one of my favorite things about this game is the soundtrack. From familiar favorites to hidden gems I never knew of, this game keeps surprising me.

It gets me every time that V:TPP is the only Metal Gear title to feature Venom outside of a couple sprites during the original MSX classic.

MGSV was my first metal gear game and I love it so much Venom Snake is by far my favorite character the more I thim about him and the game the more I love them both
