Login fruits allow the user to become one with an element such that they don't take damage unless Haki is used. The manifestation of DF properties on other things is DF awakening which is seen with Doflamingo and Katakuri being able to turn other objects into strings and mochi, respectively

A detail about gear 5 I find pretty cool is the dual coloured haki lighting. Luffy's haki has always had a black and red colour and now a bright yellow lighting is added. We know haki is the manifestation of someones will and Luffy's is red/black and now that the Nika fruit has awakened I see the yellow lighting as the will of Nika also being manifested. I also think the will of Nika is tied in with Luffy's secondary dream somehow.
If you notice luffy kept his hands over his eyes because thru his eyes he living in a cartoon when he burned kaido and he loooked at kaido he bust out laughing because how funny he view the world
Probably not. Kaido described Awakening as the users mind and body catching up to their powers and the Elders speculate that Zoan fruits have a will of their own. The Rumble balls may create new forms but not Awaken the fruit, since it MAY have a will that would reject that kind of shortcut.

I’m glad we were able to see his haki output in the anime it was awesome. Most amount of haki we have seen coming from a individual ever imo it was more than Whitebeard and rogers during there clash I mean Luffy had haki going everywhere in huge amounts 😮 amazing definitely very busted but that’s a good thing in order for him to progress he must be extremely strong with a strong crew or a few strong crew members to back his friends up. And people really think Luffy is gonna be defeated at Egghead.. hell no only person I see him losing to is Blackbeard and that’s gonna be a whirl he will be stronger when they meet as well 😅😊
I don't think Luffy will lose to Blackbeard. This is all post timeskip and the theme of these arcs has been about victory. All of the past has been about him losing but as soon as the timeskip started its about his victories on his way to becoming the Pirate King and gaining the One Piece. But I do think he'll go after Blackbeard's crew because of whats just happened to Garp in this fight.
While these are the explanations for Luffy's gears 1/2/3/4, in my headcanon it's just Luffy thinking they would work that way and Nikka materializing them. If you think about it, it's "ridiculous" to accelerate your blood circulation by using your legs as pumps or your entire bone structure being interconnected and hollow so that air can go from one place to another. Even for one piece logic. The mechanics about those gears were given by the opponents trying to understand them in the first place. That's why I believe Oda was planning this years ago (or from the very start since Skypiea was a near-EoS arc initially), unlike something like Haki (particularly Armament) that wasn't very well defined, and it ties so well with Luffy healing teeth back by drinking milk (with brook) etc
I think in sky piea Luffy being seen through the clouds kind of overshadows giant Luffy. It somehow felt the same at first and then Luffy descends in his giant form. Lol I loved that scene Luffy coming out of the clouds in his giant form. But it kind of reminded me of Hindu Gods from cartoons and books who were mischievous and had fun fighting Asuras.
I would actually posit that each of the gears is more about Luffy TRYING to do these things, accidentally tapping into the real capabilities of the Hito Hito no Mi in the process. It’s pretty subtle with Gear 2, where there’s actually a little bit of decent logic to the idea of pumping blood faster through his rubber heart and body. But Luffy isn’t actually biting through his thumb down to the bone for Gear 3 or into his muscles for Gear 4; he just bites and blows but he’s not inflating anything. Yet the muscles and bones inflate anyway. Luffy’s imagining himself inflating those muscles and bones, so thanks to the Hito Hito no Mi he’s able to make it happen, though not as freely as in Gear 5. Also this isn’t really important but I just noticed that, while Luffy gets a cloud ring around him during Gear 5, each of his other gears also produce steam in some way. Gear 2 is constantly releasing steam due to his body heating up, Luffy spews out a bunch of steam when he deflates after using Gear 3 and 4, and Gear 4 also has a steam ring that looks almost like that of Gear 5, which could be an indication of how hard Gear 4 is pushing Luffy’s devilfruit powers.
Funny thing, when luffybis fighting Kaido, he makes his heart beat louder. The heartbeat awakening was also hinted in the 15th anniversary opening when they say wake up wake up wake up heart beat. This was way back in dressrosa btw
I feel like all of Luffy’s gears aren’t supposed to work and that it doesn’t make sense, but because of Luffy’s sole belief in his transformations, they do work

Luffy's gear 5 power doesn't just turn his surroundings into rubber, it turns REALITY into rubber, hes "bending" the laws of physics like a cartoon character.
The way I see it, the Gears are obviously names Luffy Gives to make it make sense to him, but leading up to gear 4 it's really just him learning more practical ways to use the fact that his body is made of rubber. Adding Haki to Gear 4 essentially allows him to reinforce that rubber so in a realistic sense he's adding more density to his rubber and himself without adding mass. Imagine getting hit in the face with a soft bouncy ball, it'll sting but not much else, but then you have those super dense "Super bounce" balls that seem like they can fly from just the smallest amount of force, Gear 5 imo is Luffy's using Haki to do two things, turn every aspect of his body into a constant rubber state, which is why you see him bounce and fly like a slinky-toy since it's not just his arm, or his legs, or chest, he's literally just a stretch armstrong toy, and secondly use his haki in combination with his fruit to turn anything he sees into a state he wants them to become, using the properties you'd normally associate to rubber to accomplish that. But that's just me lmao
Now I want to see luffy transforms back to his ordinary human form that his body is normal and not rubber like, a state that the last time he has been at was at age of 7.
exactly. they think he's grabbing lightning just because he can. that's not the case. rubber itself is like an immunity to electricity, but Gear 5 allows him to turn his surroundings into rubber as well, so when he grabbed the lightning he literally just turned it into rubber like how his fruit is allowing him to. and when he threw it, it turned back into regular lightning
@@unnirajac8617theirs a limit for example in his final clash against kaido he couldn’t make actual phyla contact due to the extreme heat hurting him so he had to use advanced arnament aswell on top of the attack so luffy as long as he can survive it can grab it if he can’t survive it he’ll die
Limitations are way more interesting than powerful ability, and I think most people are overthinking Luffy's Nika fruit by overestimating Oda's use of the word "imagination". I'd say his base power is still of a Rubber man, as stated by the Gorosei, and with Awakening, he can bestow the property to things he touches and "bends" them to his imagination, which is pretty OP as it is. Red Hawk is just Haki + friction, and he grabs lightning because it was bestowed a tangible quality of rubber, the google is just his hair being "bent" to have that shape. Same goes for the strange bending attack exhibited in G4. It also fits with one of the theories about the end goal of OP being the demolition of the Red line, creating the All Blue. Taking the " do whatever he can imagine " to the literal extreme is just boring and make the struggle for OP trivial I'd say.
I’d say you really love to debate and throw off what the creator said into your own cute imagination. Luffy can make anything out of something, meaning a hair or a rock, even air. That’s that.

I'm not under the impression that Luffy's gears are zoan forms at all, I just feel that Nika's rubbery body allowed for a lot of abilities normal rubber would have anyway, and Luffy just expanded on it as he went. Chopper is very unique in his ability to use any more than 3 total forms, not to mention, him blowing air into his hands doesnt inherently make him any closer to being like Nika than him just being rubbery to begin with. The only thing I could maybe imagine being a sort of hybrid/mock-transformation would be gear 4th, and how he pushes his rubber body to it's limits and manipulates it with his haki/will power
Gear 2 is him pumping his blood, gear 3 is when he uses his bones as balloons and gear 4 is when he uses his muscles as balloons. Gear 5 is what combines everything and allows him to make other things become rubber
Isn't that because luffy is still thinking that's gum gum fruit not hito so he only thinks that his awakening is rubber manipulation like doffy's string and katakuri mochi awakening

Luffy's DF have no forms. It was stated that his DF grants him the power to be whatever he wants to be. Gear1 - body is stretchy so it can morph in to what he wants/think Gear2 - he wants to be as fast or faster than cp9 Gear3 - he wants to be as strong as a giant Gear4 - he is imitating the the animals from Rusukaina. Tankman is an impromptu decision after eating cracker's soldiers Gear5 is the full manifestation or awakening of his DF. Making him able to influence his surroundings like doffy
You know im surprised noone theorize that it was a zoan type since in all his gears had the steam coming out of luffy looking like the clouds that zoans have, other than gear 3.
I love gear 5 but i also get why some fans hate it. To me it captures the essence of one piece humor. Some people want it to be serious like 2-4. Im hoping we get some more serious gear 5 but sametime i want this version.
Gear 5 is brazillian CAPOEIRA. Music with drums, playing and dancing while fighting is the main characteristic. Also wearing white pants without T-shirt. And Oda said that Luffy would be brazillian in our world.
I dont even know if this is accurate. From what I understand reading it in the manga, its more about his imagination for his power. So, He may have looked like he was pumping more blood around his body, or blowing air into his body, but those may have just been what he needed to imagine what he wanted to have happen. Having his power be bringing forth what he imagines better explains things like his fire punches, Thor axe, having 6 arms at one point for a gear 4 attack, and changing punch directions as snake man. Its just his imagination giving him abilities, just not to the extent of gear 5 fully.

Man, i REALLY wanted luffy's hair to be yellow or orange during this. Not because it fits with the "sun god". But because it would make the big 3 and the father dbz all have a form in relation to yellow/orange hair. Theres a fan art about this before the reveal of the white hair.
His rubber body was him unawakened. Choppers fruit isnt awakened either and they both do their zoan forms. Gear 5 is luffy's awakened devil fruit having died and joy boy restarting his heartbeat
To be honest Im not really feeling Gear 5 cartoony deal. im just not a fan of the toon deal. I wonder what he would look like with Luccis fruit. And hes the protagonist he was going to win with whatever fruit he had inside of the fruit been able to fight
