This tank and video a couple of years ago literally inspired my way back into reef aquariums and I was sad a few weeks ago to learn of Jake's passing. Hope your tank is still around Luis!
I love the calm spirit of this tank! Although I only have a freshwater aquarium right now, your videos give me vital leads into building and owning a reef aquarium on my own one day. Thanks!
Simply outstanding Jake. You bring reefers so much perspective by doing these videos. The knowledge we gain allows us to challenge our methods and improve as aquarists. Big thank you!!!
"Don't chase the numbers". Some of the best advise available in the hobby. My best ever reef tank I ever owned ran by itself, I hardly ever tested the water, never did many water changes, but the acros grew like weeds. Plus if you're busy chasing the numbers, you'll never have time to enjoy your tank for what it is!
I think it's good advise for stress free tank maintenance. However, when I started heavy testing and dosing, my corals started growing at incredible speeds and look better than ever. If you have the patience and time, it's always a good idea to chase the numbers. I can't go back to regular tank maintenance anymore, the number chasing offers too many benefits.
That is such a beautiful aquarium. At the end it doesn’t matter how much money you have it’s the experience you have. I’m glad to be able to learn so much when watching these videos.
jake thank you for all your great videos!!! they’re the reason i got into reefing!! i saw one of your videos and i’ve been in love with coral ever since!! thank you
Hey Birthday Buddy! Thanks, real good to hear from you. Oh, how I long for the good ole days...when there was no way a frag was going to fit in a "pee-pee cup"!!!
Jake, thank you for your dedication to this lifestyle. I've been a Reefer for 30 years. I was so impressed with Luis's tank and results, I ordered a new Red Sea XL 300 G2 Reefer. I bought all top notch equipment and ordering the Illumagic Blaze 90 tomorrow. Now comes the fun part, setting it all up! Thanks again, Jake! Luis, incredible job and I think Red Sea should add your name to the 250 as the Luis Rosa signature series!
Now I know it can be done. Simple, nice and clean. This is what i am what I am going for in my new 90 gallon build. That’s the best piece of furniture in the room.
Loving this setup and tank! Very good tip to beginners to not chase the numbers. I used to do that when I started because everyone on forums told me I didn't have the correct values in my tank and thats why my corals wouldnt grow. When I stopped chasing the numbers and just watched the corals if they were happy, I became so much more succesful :)
Congrats on your great tank! Looks amazing, super clean and a smart setup. Nice to see our products Illumagic, Great White, Triton, PolypLab being all being well utilized. Thank you!
Thank you Toni! UniqueCorals is well represented in this reef, both inside and out. I've been tempted to ask Donna if you guys offer payroll deduction!!!

One of the best tanks on ReefBuilders YT for sure. I love how this type of tank is easily attainable for most people. I love those gigantic tanks with huge fishrooms but 99% of us will never even consider tanks like that. This is a great example of a tank that is not too big but can still be a centerpiece in your home and have awesome corals.
Man I don’t know how you do it but these tank tours are the BEST!!!! When I see a new one from you, I jump on it! Hoping for many more! Thanks so much🍻🤙😎 Oh and Luis, great tank and I too run your perspective on letting a tank settle into its own. When you said that I was like, wait, I thought I was the only one 😂 Bravo man!
@@LuisBe19 I 2nd that, you should post update videos of your tank on your channel Luis, this video as made me want to get into the saltwater reefing hobby. I am currently doing my research before diving into it. Again great setup!
Keep coming back to this video years later, love this tank. Crazy to see his temp at 78.8! i get worried when mine hits 77.8 but thats still low compared to his. Very cool stuff
Beautiful tank Luis! Thank you for sharing! Watching your videos, Jake has inspired me to get into the hobby again. Especially Luis and Evan Luo's tanks. I just took delivery on a Red Sea Reefer XXL 750 and I'm struggling to decide which way to go with lighting for an SPS dominant reef tank. What lighting would you suggest for a 6' x 2' dream Acro tank build?
Still one of the best videos and tanks! ReefStock 2020 Baybay. Hope to see Luis and Jake there. I wanna know how the dalua skimmer has performed up to this point as well as the light.
That end advice about not fighting the numbers is so good. That’s true of human medicine too. If for example someone has a blood pressure a little above range or liver enzymes and they are fit and apparently healthy there isn’t a reason to intervene
Great video Jake! What a talented reefer. His tank is so clean. Death to all refugiums! Haha...that was funny! I wonder how many people watched that at the very end.?
Thanks @Reefaholic! It was hilarious. We had already wrapped up the shoot and Jake unpacked the camera just to have me repeat what I had said in conversation!
Luis - looks absolutely fantastic. I’m in the process of putting a Reefer 170 together and being that I’m starting from scratch I wanted to ensure I have a set up that is as trouble free as possible. Looking at your set up I wondering whether you would recommend the Clarisea as part of the initial start up? I am also not intending having a auto dosing as I’m happy to do this myself. Any thoughts please? Thanks Mark
Thank you, Mark! I've been using the ClariSea for 5 months now and can't say enough good things about it. Water clarity, spotless sump and never washing filter socks...what more could you want? If you remove the filter sock tray in your Reefer 170 sump, I'm pretty sure the SK-3000 should fit.
THIS TANK IS AMAZING!! I think its the perfect size tank, not too small but not too large in terms of stability and maintenance. One thing that stands out to me is that green slimer! I've had a 1" frag of green slimer for almost a year now and its not doing anything but encrusting. How do you get yours to branch soooo perfectly?!
Thanks @Codym808 ! I have found that the green slimer loves flow and will probably take as much light as you can give it. Also, like a lot of frags, they won't grow like crazy until it has encrusted and built a good sturdy foundation on the rock. So be patient, I think you're on the right track! Oh, and food...feed your reef!
Thanks Robert! What more can I say about this light? It's awesome. So many PROS: sleek compact design, one single power cord, pucks are covered with a single piece of glass over the entire length - easy to clean, it doesn't blow out your room with light spill - this must have something do do with the silicone optics, bluetooth controllable, all spectrums look great - when I first plugged it in, all the channels came on 100%, I almost left it on that setting and called it a day! I'm very happy with coral growth & coloration, includes a hanging kit and mounting arms are available to purchase. I had to come up with something, so here are a couple CONS: (but not dealbreakers for me!) The app is a little quirky on my iPhone X, no experience with the app on android. There's a little learning curve to it, but it's not bad...set it and forget it. The other con is that the fans are audible. Compared to a Kessil 360 and a Radion XR15, the Illumagic would be the loudest. Not an issue with me at all, but I know it can be a concern for some reefers.
Ive been watching your video so many time....quick question...what about mo10 wich is not made for thismtank thickness.....does it work good? What is the max speed of it before it falls? Thanks for the answer
Luis Rosa it’s you! Wasn’t expecting a direct reply. It looks like every one of your corals are 100% healthy. No parts look damaged or recovering. And all that healthy coral in such a small footprint is equally amazing.
@@dontbestupid6664, Once the reef finds its happy place, you really don't have to mess with it too much. I found that the more I just left it alone, the better everything looked!
So i watched this a while ago loved it ... and just watched it 2 more times back to back great job Jake awsome videos . Props to ur freinds amazing tank 😍.... good job guys !!!!
@@corey6269 No way!!! I honestly have only watched it all the way through ONCE!...And that was only because my girlfriend made me sit down and watch it with her! It freaks me out to hear and see myself on a Reef Builders RU-vid video. Thank goodness Jake is awesome at editing!!!
Good job mate u deserve to be on there 100% . Very inspiring people like you and Jake , he does do a great job with his videos, love it. Im in South Australia i wish there was more hobbiest here like use.. they might just be hiding tho lol .
Amazing looking tank. I'm looking to change from freshwater to marine for my 50th birthday present to myself (not for another 2 years). I'm just starting to do my research and I am really interested in the way you have set yours up and the need for minimal maintenance. This has inspired me as i was looking at getting a 4ft tank but this looks stunning for a smaller size.
Wow wow wow gracias Don Luis Thanks so much and Jakes keep them videos Rolling isure dont miss anny ok ineed to stop chaseing numbers tank is outstanding
I feel like I’m on the opposite end after 10 years I’ve ditched skimmers and socks. I struggle to raise nitrate and p04, yes Hanna meter. Now I just run a scrubber. I feed reefroids and feed heavy. I now spend money on water and corals :) so many ways to get there, I find ULN tanks a knife edge!
Do you run the rox carbon/gfo reactor 24/7? I am setting up a reefer 350 and was going to convert the ATO to a refugium. Never thought about the clarisea until now. Looks really cool and you have me rethinking my setup
The more I see the more I think the only real nutrient export you need is just a display stuffed full of corals. Obviously you need to have everything else in line, like elements, lighting, flow, to keep the corals growing and feeding on the water column, but once it is going, they seem to just do well until human error or disease is introduced. Awesome system....
