*In South America, people cross passes like these because they have to. In North America, people cross passes like these because they're bored.* Excellent video. A small cc motocross bike is the only way to do this.
Same can be said for Copper Canyon in Mexico which not for nothing, is four times the size of the Grand Canyon. Just wonderful adventure riding down south...
Thanks Mark, I though for a very small moment that I should do it on my KLR. And after 2 seconds of considering this. I said, “he’ll no!” “I’m taking the WR”
@@sanchezsaturno Have done it on an 800 Tiger a WR450 and now will do it on my new to me Super Sherpa... Get older go smaller... Living in Summit County I need a, Yes I can do it alone bike....
Lukas, I’m glad you liked the video. I’m partner and I had a blast recording these adventures. Thanks for the subscription. I hope one day I’ll get the numbers to get monetized, but for now it’s a labor of love and we are enjoying it.
Mr. Hyp Nomadic, do it. It’s actually way safer on a bike than on a Jeep. And the views are jaw dropping. Seriously, the images don’t do it justice. It’s like 100 time prettier when you see it with your one two eyes. Shit, let me know when you go and if I can I’ll do it with you.
Thanks frank, I’m glad you liked it. I wanna go back every weekend by it’s a bit far from Santa Fe, where I live. Right now I’m in Mexico City. Unfortunately not on two wheels but I do plan and seeing as much of the area as possible.
Fantastic video sir!!! The ride looks nerve racking, but those are the type I enjoy most. Your additional footage using your drone was brilliant. I absolutely loved this video!!! Black Bear Pass has just been added to my bucket list. Thank you 🙏
Thank you, I’ve been dying to get back to Black Bear since I recorded this. I need to get back there before the summer ends. I keep hearing stories of snow up there as early as September.
@@sanchezsaturno you should definitely do it! My son and I are doing the TAT route through Colorado in September. While Black Bear isn’t on the TAT, I have been watching these vids to get a feel for what we’ll be facing. We have decided to skip Ophir pass and go by road from Lake City to Telluride. Because of your vid, I think we will side trip up to Bridal Veil falls though!
Thanks man, I’m glad you liked it. I had a blast shooting it. And my girlfriend helped. Been wanting to go back and ride it again. Maybe in May or June when the snow clears. I’ll go back for a second attempt.
Great tour of black bear pass and the waterfalls. The Drone certainly added a lot of value to this ride. Of course having your girlfriend drop you off at the top and knowing she's waiting at the bottom is good motivation for careful riding. I can't say that I would ever want to put my girlfriend on the back of my motorcycle and ride up to the falls without any proper riding gear on. Hopefully that was a putt-putt ride all the way back up.
Chad, thanks for subscribing. I really appreciate it. We are just a regular every day Normal family over here. But I’m happy that you think we are awesome. It’s a little boost of confidence that everybody needs. Thank you for the compliment. We have a baby now, so I can’t record as often. But I’m still trying to make at least one every month. I think in a few years you’ll start seeing videos with my son riding also.
@@sanchezsaturno I know southwest Colorado well. In my estimation the most scenic and interesting part if the state. I've ridden offroad in the area in the early '80s. Never Black Bear, but Stony Pass and Bristol Head above Creede. I'm looking at 80 summers this year so I no longer ride off road, although I do still throw a leg over my street bike. Great video presentation, very enjoyable.
It’s possible to do it on an Africa Twin, but it’s so much more fun on a smaller bike. Honda does make a 300cc bike that would make a great ADV bike. Thanks for watching. I can’t wait to get back to that pass.
@@Asdfghjkl1234 no problem, just trying to make everyone feel welcome. I looked up some bikes just for the hell of it. And looks like when it comes to light ADV bikes. The KTM 500 EXC-F is the lightest and strongest. Unfortunately it’s also the most expensive one.
Lol it’s possible. But I’d say 99% of the trail is wide enough to easily pass a mile of Jeeps. The Steps near the end is the only place where you should take your time. It’s also the spot with the best view, so don’t forget to stop half way down the steps and take a look around. It’s impressive in every way.
I've never ridden Black Bear Pass, but I've ridden some other lesser known passes on my 1972 Honda SL 125 trail bike back in the 70's. I was on some pretty hairy places with experienced riders. One learns fast that way. At 8:55 that is a scary part of the trail. Nice size bike to do that on.
Agreed, there are some really cool passes in Colorado that don’t get the credit they deserve. And way to go on your 50 plus years of trail riding. I’m hoping for the same.
I never tried this trail yet, but it's on my list. I did a video on my channel when I rode up to Red Cone Pass, which was pretty hairy, and curious to see how they compare. Great video!
Red Cone and Black Bear are similar in altitude. But Black Bear has those step downs. It’s not a long section, maybe 200 feet long. But it is very memorable. It is memorable enough not to remember the rest of the ride.
I'd love to head down that way in July. I'm in NorCo, so mostly hitting up the trail systems out this way, but looking to expand out to the south a bit.
I'd honesty love to try it uphill but it's marked one way at the top and the bottom of the hard part. I wonder if it's something that is strictly enforced.
@@sanchezsaturno well, unfortunately that means that people who go downhill wouldn't expect you, and that could be a problem at some parts probably, especially as car mass is greater than yours :D
@@Slavkoadv yeah, the cars are massive and there is barely enough room for them to begin with. I think even on some thing like a motorcycle you would have a hard time getting around a car on this section of the trail.
Thanks man I’m glad you liked it. I use the DJI Mavic Mini 2. Although I’ve been itching to upgrade to the mini 4 since it has follow me features. But the mini 2 shoots in 4K and there is nothing wrong with it so I’m still using it.
Matt, I’m 5’7”. I had to lower the bike. I put on a YamaLink and I dropped the forks a bit. About a half in on the front springs are stock and rebound and compression are set pretty soft for me.
@@sanchezsaturno Good to hear. With just a backpack on, mine feels great on trails, when I load it down with camping gear it feels completely under damped. I’m definitely planning on getting the shock re valved.
Matt, when I load it down it’s a bit soft too. But only in the rear. The front is fine. I do set my preload to the softest setting when I’m trail riding and I set it at its stiffest setting when I have the bags and extra fuel on it. I could benefit from having a stiffer spring when I’m adventure riding on it.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-p4JwND71eFs.html Here is a link to what I mean by adventure riding on it. Yeah I could have used a stiffer spring on this ride.
Yeah, the jeep websites are a little dramatic. On four wheels I’d understand. Two, not really. I got it from the site I used to read about this pass. That site even had that viral video of a jeep tumbling down the pass. I think that’s why it came up first.
