Justin, I can kind of relate My dad committed adultery and my mom remarried when I was 2. I always called my step-dad dad. My real dad left me without a trace. My step-dad died of suicide due to alcohol abuse 9/19/2015. The wierd part is I had a dream about that event happening. My real dad came back into the picture when I was 6. Me and him have still never been as close and get into constant arguments. The dad that felt like my dad, the one I could go to is gone and even 5 years later still hits me hard. I know when I have a kid what not to do. I’ve experienced many bad things with men in my life and I am not going to let my wife or child go through the same pain I did. It’s not easy, the pain won’t ever go away. Keep having faith and pushing. You will come out stronger and wiser on the other side

I feel ya . my dad was also in the Army but instead of dying for his country he died in a car wreck i was 5. Im the only one of my siblings (being the oldest) that remembers him but still he wasnt a Daddy. I longed for a Daddy and this song... If someone could build me a Daddy it would truly make me and momma happy. Still to this day and its been 41 years I STILL LONG FOR THE DADDY I NEVER HAD😢😭

My thought about folks that disliked this song... they do not like the gut wrenching emotions it brings them. Some people choose to not feel or think about their loss because of the pain and anger it may cause them all over again. Everyone deals with loss differently and this song may just hit too close to home. This is one of my many favorites of Luke’s because of the emotions it draws for me and I support our military and their sacrifices 110%!

My dad a fucking idiot but my mom is everything to me My dad tried to kill him self an my mom me an my older brother had to fight with him until the cops showed up my mom was in pain I ended up getting a black eye I still love him he was a drunk he got locked up for 5 years served 3

I lost my dad 20 years ago already. I had brain surgery a year ago, but ended up with serious infections. The third of the surgeries i felt my dad holding my hand, I woke up and said, "dad".. The nurses had no clue and said they would find my parents when I could have visitors. Mom came in and I told her, dad was holding me, just like he always did when I was a little girl. I'm so sorry for the loss of your dad. I hope and pray you are doing well from your surgery? Hugs

I lost my dad almost a year ago (6/28/19) This will be the 1st out of 40 Father’s Day without him. I am so sorry for the loss of your dad! It is the saddest part of life, that’s for sure. I think my dad had a heart attack as well. He was so strong though, not so much healthy, but he would break bones and bounce right back and one Friday morning, he has a stomach ache and by the time my sister got there it was too late. I just miss him so much. I miss our talks and I miss how he would laugh at my stupid jokes, even if they weren’t funny (which was rare 😂). He was my sister and I’s biggest fan. We would walk in a room, no matter if we just saw him 5 minutes before or a week before, and his face would light up and he would have a huge smile like we were the biggest celebrities he’d ever seen haha ugh I miss that! He definitely made us feel special. Here I go blabbing again 😆 I hope you have great memories of your dad like I do mine. It does help a little during hard times. 🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️😢😢😢

Ive been there too. My dad was the only one who was ever there for me. He passed away from cancer over 3 years ago. My heart never broke so much. But im still surviving and living today. Everyday I do my best to make him proud. Tell him what you want him to know even if he cant respond. He will still hear you. I lost my dad on father's day after 1 year of being a father myself I wish I had my father to give me advice on things. I miss my dad a hell of a lot.....I've wept beyond the humanly possible amount of tears to this very day because I can't accept after 10 years that he's gone.... pain never goes away.....some days it's unbearable.....cherish the time you got left with your dad. Trust me it is worth it
