I like the original english version, but as an italian, I have to admit the italian dubbers made a wonderful job. So much expressiveness and pathos, especially in Luke´s voice. I also think the German dubbed version works really well.

My favourites from other languages: 0:39 German (Vader is so menacing and absolute and sovereign in his words. The horror, denial, and pain in Luke's voice, the VAs are so good as Luke and Vader. It also sounds so close to the original what the hell, it's great.) 7:38 Chinese (The twisted, sadistic smile in Vader's voice when he tells Luke he is his father? Chills. The utter agony in Luke's voice? Tears. This is his worst nightmare incarnate, you can hear how shattered he is, especially at the beginning. Major props to both VAs.) 1:56 Russian (Vader sounds so robotic and cold in a way that sounds inhuman. Luke is full on sobbing, oh my God it's so heart-wrenching. In his voice you can hear the thought/emotion of, "How could I have come from such a monster?") 2:32 Italian (Vader sounds so human and genuine, just a father speaking to his son. Luke is so grieved, which is so appropriate. Darth Vader is his father and then hearing this same man speak so sincerely with him . . . that would no doubt fuck with his head so much.) 3:10 Japanese (Vader sounds so proud to claim Luke as his son, and you can really hear the "I can't wait to mentor this kid" in his tone. Luke sounds like such a teenage protagonist, in the best way possible -- so naive and full of spirit, and emotionally open/honest and vulnerable. Great acting from both VAs, I love their anime spin on it it's so good!) Goddamnit, now I want to watch the entire original trilogy in each of these languages.

In Russia we have 3 Russian dubs. This is second dub made by ORT (The First Channel-Первый канал). The first was made in 1990, in USSR by MosFilm studio. The third, and final dub was made by Central Partnership.

I miss the Spanish version of Spain ... the Spanish version shown here is the Latin American version. The Spanish version of Spain, where Vader is played by the late Constantino Romero, who was recognized by George Lucas as one of the best Vaders dubbers.

Turkish Vader sounds a lot like something that actually would come from the Star Wars universe.

The German one souns so good just because Siths aestethic was modeled after the Nazists.

It's strange, growing up being used to the German Vader and his speeches - which sound openly hostile and emotional on many occasions, even for a native speaker - and compare it to the relatively calm English 'main' version. And everyone else's completely losing their minds about how he sounds in German.

Fun fact: In Hungary, Episode 5 was the first dubbed Star Wars movie in 1982. In this video, you can hear that version. Episode 4 was first dubbed in 1984, while episode 6 was in 1992. In each movie, most of the characters had different voice actors. In 1995, the whole trilogy got a new dubbing, with another set of voice actors throughout the 3 movies. In 1997, when the Special Edition came out, Lucas wanted a completely new dubbing for the trilogy. Most of the voice actors were the same as in the '95 version, with a few alterations.

Czech Vader is the best sounding (outside English). But the German “NEIN, ICH BIN DIN FATER” “NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIINNN!” sounds badass
