I actually like this inclusion in canon. It’s nice. Also gives him more adventures with a lightsaber between Episodes 5 and 6…even if it’s now bordering on too many.

So that's why my Luke Skywalker action figure had a yellow weapon. My ROTJ Luke had a hand held green one. My farm boy Star Wars Luke figure had a yellow 'slotted through the forearm' weapon. Only the Ben Kenobi figure came with a blue 'slotted through the forearm' one. I often wondered where the yellow sabre came into it.

I actually like the yellow saber inclusion in canon. It makes an even nicer transition. Also gives him more adventures with a lightsaber between Episodes 5 and 6 😛 even if it’s now bordering on too many.

Actually he did find his father’s old lightsaber but chose not use it. And instead use a different one, which he began to find another one. Which leads him to the yellow lightsaber.
