Lulajże Jezuniu 

Not everyone knows that the middle part of the scherzo was based and inspired by a traditional Polish Christmas carol ‘Lulalajze jezuniu’ and you can actually hear it. Such a beautiful tribute to Poland; when he couldnt made his way back to his country he’d include that melody in one of his masterpieces.

same here. i cannot but cry. we heard this carol as children half a century and half a world away. i remember a small church in Zakopane where this was sung.

Bring great time as child did not understand the meaning of Jesus birth. As a mature woman appreciate childhood memories

Where do you live?

We just sang this song at our Christmas concert two weeks ago and yesterday for our final performance of it for now. We did the theme of Christmas Around the World.

Scherzo no. 1 by Chopin quoted it.

It is know out of Poland at many CHRISTmas Polka dances.

It's a lullaby for baby Jesus sung by Holy Mary in Polish.

But modified, results much more beautiful than the original, in my opinion (the melody, of course, I even don't need to mention the genial harmonies of Chopin arrangement!)

Actually, the carol predates Chopin by a couple centuries. Chopin, along with many other composers of his era, delved into the folksongs of his country and took inspiration from them, especially as the age of nations dawned in Europe.
