Today I want to show you this little thing. It’s a tiny SSD drive with a bracket that can be directly connected to the USB C port and mounted to the side of the GH6. It’s been developed by a very small Chinese company and I think it’s a very interesting design. But it’s not without it’s flaws, yet..

I build my own cf express cards using a sintech adapter and 2230 m.2 NVMe drives, all the benefits of cheaper media and the benefits of internal recording

Looks cool. Still, I think I'd rather just go with the internal drives. However, I did see a cheap Samsung USB-C 3.2 thumb drive that looked interesting.

Yeah cool, but not perfect 🙂 I have heard thumb drives aren’t very reliable. But haven’t tried it myself. Would be an interesting solution, but also a bit vulnerable

You only really need passthru for HDMI. Microphone, you can get around by using a microphone in the hotshoe. Or the Panasonic XLR-1, then you have both microphone and headphone ports on the top.

Freekin awesome! I use the rocket nano in the original housing and epoxy cold shoe on it. I also curious to see wich ports can be served in a later date. Also the xlr will work on top for audio. BOOM! Just no RAW or gimbal control w cameras that wont stop start bt. Concerned about the link . Not a fan of the distributor. Hard to navigate and no pinpoint product show for what i seen .so cool and sleek though.Thank You

Hadn’t thought of the XLR adapter for audio. That’s a good idea! Yeah, I hope the developer will start selling it on other platforms, like Amazon. I’m also not particularly fond of his AliExpress shop

there is a $20 cfexpress to m2 2230 nvme adapter available, and 2tb 2230 drives can be found for $250. and everything fits inside the cf slot.

@@RedFrameTech yes, i distinctly remember finding a diy kit for $19 ~1y ago while i was looking for solutions for the gh6 (that i eventually did not buy). but now, with google being useless i can only find commercial products for ~45$ and this CFETBSSDAC for $26. As for reliability cf express is on the pcie standard, so the adapter is only electrical traces, no controller or anything - just werkz as long as the ssd is m.2 2230 to fit inside. Look around, there are many options including ali, some adapters, if you don't mind keeping the card door open, allow you to use even 2242 (as the one you bought) or longer nvme drives. Also SN740 2TB is $225 on ebay, and kioxia also has 1TB variants.

how to 1 TB "cfexpress ssd" for like 250€: I want to share how i solved my prob, perfect cheap solution!: Im using a gimbal, so i couldnt use ssd because of the camera control cable(theres only 1 usb c slot). of course i want to control the camera with the gimbal, like record Button or using the App Features. What i didnt like too, when using a ssd, that you are limited to 60 fps, which is bad if you want to rec some 120 fps shots. Then i found this ssd to cfexpress adapter. guys its just awesome. you just put an m2 ssd into this thing, its very easy to install. now i have a 1TB "cfexpress ssd" for like 250€. its reliable, i never had an Issue with this thing. its the perfect solution if you need your usb c slot free & want to shoot above 60 fps. no extra mouting o.a., you just put it into the CFexpress slot, without any cables, not blocking any other slots & its not much more cost than for a "normal" 1TB ssd. Last I heard I think only up to 50fps Don't think you can record 120fps over ssd unless they have done a firmware update.

The problem with this is that it blocks the mic port. Yes, you can buy an XLR1 and use XLR cables, but that's £350. Is there a simple solution involving a clamp which can be secured other than via a cage?

Not that I know of unfortunately. This solution is great if you’re recording your audio separately and use timecode to sync. But yeah, if you need the mic port it’s a no go

4:03 So you can record Braw directly into an ssd? I thought that it could only be done with a BM video assist

I watched my video back and what I said was B roll. But my pronunciation was very poor and in fact sounded like BRAW 😅 So no, you can't record BRAW directly to an ssd. Would be great though!

are you familiar with the USB-C Flash drive to record on the GH-6?

Haven’t tried that, but have heard that it’s less reliable, because flash drives are not designed for lots of continuous data writing.

I know what you mean needing more space 😅 But unfortunately, the G9 has no option for recording to SSD
