Lumpini Park is the first public park in Thailand built about 100 years ago. King Rama VI donated land at the outskirt of Bangkok to construct the park. The King used to be educated in a boarding school in England as a prince for several years and thus Lumpini Park was an attempt to emulate Hyde Park in England. Lumpini Park is the favorite park for people to exercise in the morning and evening. The park is world famous for its many monitor lizards, some are as long as 2-3 meters. Monitor lizard lives in the park's pond for decades. It has no predator so the park is the heaven for them. In the past, Lumpini Park was the venue for ballroom dancers in the evening. There was live band there playing ballroom music for dancers. The practice was abandoned several decades ago. In its place for the last 31 years is the annual Concert in the Park event held from January to March on Sunday for 10 weeks. It is performed by Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra playing classic music and some modern tunes and usually feature some singers as well. The music even starts around 17.30 till 20.00. Nearby is Benjakitti Park which is connected to Lumpini Park via Green Skywalk. Benjakitti Park and its new extension (Forest Park) land used to house factories of Thailand Tobacco Monopoly. The factories were relocated to a remote province decades ago. Both Lumpini and Benjakitti parks are favorite for Thais and expats to relax, biking or walking in the morning and evening. Biking is allowed in Lumpini park from 10.00-16.00. Other times are allocated to walkers and runners. Biking is allowed in all hours at Forest Park due to its dedicated bike lanes. The sculpture in Benjakitti Park is Prathumchart or literally Lotus Species. Lotus is the symbol of Buddhism and Thais bring lotus to the temple as merit offering. There is an annual event at the end of Buddhis Lent in October at Wat Yai Bang Pli to float a decorated boat to receive throwing lotuses along the canal.
Hey Oliver great video! The god of algorithm suggests my Bangkok video after yours and brought me many views so thank you!!! And I’ve subscribed to your channel. We’ve probably been in Lumpini park around the same time, would have been so much fun to bump into another RU-vidr!!! Maybe another time. Cheers from Australia!
Your only thing today was to count lizards! Sigh… I wish I had your life 🥺 would you try adding a little history info or a little local research to your videos please. For example; it would be good to know what that “event” was called and about. You got good energy and screen presence and I wonder if you’re gonna make Bangkok your home. A lot of us who subscribed to your channel probably also follow some of the other well-established Bangkok influencers on YT. There’s room for you too bro! Best of luck with your new channel. Look forward to some interesting posts.
Wow!! Thanks for your kind words 🤩 Love this positive feedback, awesome!! I’ll try adding more information to the video! More Bangkok videos coming up! 🇹🇭🙏🏼
I am jogging every morning in this park, when they crawl on the side walk, we just avoid them. They get used to people. I always ride the boat in the lake and good relaxation.
You can walk from Lumpini Park via a route called the Green Mile to another great venue, Benjakitti Park. But be prepared for the heat and stay hydrated.
In Thailand we called them Water mornitor Liz.But if you wanna see the bigger one you can go see the Komodo Dragons you need to going visiting Komodo Island in Indonesia it's the same root but different species. And the Komodo Dragon they only living in the conserved Island that different here the Water monitors in Thailand.living in the big city.and community where ppl lived.Have a great day. 🦎🦎🐍🐊🦎🐢
I feel the need to clarify something up. You were lucky to get a free boat ride that day in celebration for their reopening after a long absence of renovation. On a normal day, they cost 1-2 Euros for an hour. If you wanted to see the water monitors, you should find a different time to visit the park. The water monitors were hiding during the hottest time of the day. With all the constructions noises, they are less likely to come out. Try again very early in the morning or late afternoon. And of course, without the fun fairs tents popping up all over the park like that. Check out the park’s banks and bridges, the water monitors are likely hiding from the heat around there.
I believe thats due to the phone is overheated when you shooting video high resolution in the heat sunlight especially they are in the case And those tents are for Red Cross Fair, it is organized yearly during december when the weather is least hot of the year..
Well, Thai street food stalls offer you the possible price and reasonable food safety. If you didn't like them, you're welcome to the better restaurant with more price tags. Thailand offers wide variation of lifestyles. I have never seen any severe food poison case from street food vendors in Thailand at all. Except you wanna try hardcore local food when you're just newbie here. FYI.
Well, I did meet quite some people that got very sick from Thai street food, to be honest. But talking for myself, I am careful, because I’ve had serious stomach issues. Not because I am a newbie, FYI 😉
