0:00 Introduction
1:04 5 Helpful tips
2:42 Step 1 Making the Mold
6:59 Step 2 Pouring the Casting Stone
8:58 Step 3 Finishing Your Statue
Here’s what’s included with your Luna Bean’s Keepsake Hands Casting Kit:
• 1 - Step 1 molding powder
• 1 - Step 2 casting stone
• 1 - Molding bucket
• 1 - Detailing pin
• 1 - Wooden stick
• 1 - De-molding stick
• Sandpaper
• Instructions
Here are a few items that are not included, but recommended:
• A Mixing bowl
• A Mixing spatula
• A Whisk
• A Measuring cup
• Distilled water (distilled water ensures that there are no minerals in the water that may disrupt the bonding process or the color-changing feature of the molding powder)
• Paper towels
• And Clay or a similar material to artificially thicken long nails to reduce the chances of breaking during the de-molding process
5 helpful tips for best results:
Tip 1: Due to the nature of the casting procedure, it can be difficult to get the casting stone up into the finger portions of the mold if the fingers are curved upward (such as in a partial fist). Air tends to get trapped in the fingertips if in this position and the stone usually cannot fill them properly. The fingers will then appear to have been sliced off. It is okay to curve the fingers as long as the fingertips are overall at the lowest point in the molding bucket or to have a tight fist or firm grasp on another hand, etc.
Tip 2: Regarding fingernails: If the subject has fingernails that they wish to be preserved in the casting, place a small amount of clay (or similar) behind the nails prior to making the mold to make them about 2-3 times thicker than normal. This will help prevent the nails from breaking off the finished statue and the added thickness is hardly noticeable.
Tip 3: It is best to have an extra person available that is not involved in the casting process to read the instructions, mix molding powder, and to tend to any children that may be involved in the process. Also, although some wiggling is okay, it could be difficult to mold a young child’s hand if he or she is cranky or upset.
Tip 4: Add the powder to the water (not the other way around). Lack of water at any time can cause the material to bond and set prematurely.
Tip 5: Both the Step 1 molding powder and the Step 2 casting stone react with water in order to perform their functions. Therefore, if you have any questions about the pH or the level of minerals (the hardness) of your tap water, it is best to use distilled water.

I wish I knew to rinse off the casting before I let it dry. Now I have a lot of casting dust I don't know how to get it off before I paint it. How do I clean it off?

I wish I would've rewatched this video before doing it, followed all the instructions, got to the last step of letting the plaster set, even filled it to the top like they did in the video...but now the plaster has hardened around the top edges to the point where I can't pull or bend the sides to get my children's mold out😫😫😫so mad it seems wasted

You definitely need to address the fact the bucket overflows when you put your hands in it.

I think that some people put their hands/arms in as far down as they can (bottom of the bucket) leading to the overflow. If you just put your hands in to your wrist like it instructs, this shouldn’t happen :)

It's a shame that written instructions aren't an option anymore. The video helps to get an overview, but when actually doing the process, it'd be nice to have everything on one page in front of me.
