Thanks Bret! Just ordered his Africa book =) I have to say, watching these two videos was a little hard for me...the last trip I took with my wife before she was stricken with cancer and passed away was to the Columbia River Gorge. We took the same route you show, and I recognized most of the scenery. Wonderful memories.
Thanks for ordering Into Africa Orangelion! I hope you enjoyed it. A pretty diverse year with a few 'moments' eh. I was sorry to read about your wife! Cancer really does suck.
Thanks so much for interviewing Sam. I've been reading his books for years and he's been an inspiration for me to do my version of adventure biking. In the way that Malcolm Smith inspired me to ride, Sam inspired me to pack up the panniers and head for the horizon.
Sams words are amazing and profound, what he.s talking about. It.s from life, and no review from other books. He.s talking from head and heart. Fine stuff, Sam, I like that way oft thinking and talking. Thanks for YOU!!
Thanks for the video!! I’ve heard Sam on ARR and your interview here about his experiences with writing have really interested me. This has encouraged me to buy and read tacos to totems. I started riding ADV in Terrace, BC and am back to living in Maine.
Nice one! Adventure Rider Radio is fantastic isn't it! Thanks very much for buying my book. I hope you enjoyed it. For sure it shows why I keep heading back to North America for more riding!!!
Loved the 2 part interview with Sam. I just recently got his Audible book titled: Distant Suns narrated by Sam himself and I’m just beginning Chapter 9 tonight. I found it cool to hear him tell you the story about his Cruise Ship travel from Africa to South America and the bit of the star gazing during an overcast night sky as told in his book! Nice to actually put a face the voice that I’ve been listening too these last few nights. :)
Thanks very much Peter! I'm really pleased you enjoyed Distant Suns. Two continents on the same latitude but so different in so many ways. And wasn't I lucky to link up with a girl like Birgit!!!
Found your channel couple of days back.. now going through them one by one.. and I must say you got a great content with good video quality.. thanks for sharing your knowledge.. just let them pour..
I truly feel that you have mastered the video medium and unless you feel a compelling need to commit your thoughts and experiences to the printed word then there is no need to bother with that medium.
RTW is great but I think a lot of people focus too much on that. The real trick I think is figuring out how to fit weekend adventures in your own backyard in to everyday life.
I agree! RTW is a fantastic dream and if a person can make it happen it superb. The reality is that most people have too many responsibilities. Shorter trips rock! For me adventures begin as soon as you are away from things familiar. Where you are travelling in places that stretch you and challenge you. Places that surprise you and give you moments of awe. Plus of course, its a laughter thing isn't it! All of that can happen in a weekend can't it.
