7 mm nodule and several tree in buds. I didn’t smoke but I might as well have. My parents smoked 4 packs a day…in the house. It was the 60s and 70s so they didn’t know any better.
I had a lung nodule detected 2 yrs ago, very small. Fast forward to today and it grew was cancerous and I had a lobectomy three weeks ago. I’m still very sore but the upside is it did not spread and I’m done with treatment. I credit my primary doctor for setting up CT scans six years ago because of my smoking history. As far as I’m concerned he saved my life. Also during the the treatment to verify cancer a PET scan found a 80% blockage in left main artery to my heart and within two weeks I had a stent inserted.
Omg this doctor made me calm down after i got my results i was freaking out but now i feel more relief. Thank you so much for this well explained video . God bless you 🙏 ❤️
@johnanton191 i was told i have a small pulmonary nodule but the doctor said that was an incidental finding that is probably benign. She did recommended to follow up with a repeat CT scan in 6 months.
My mom at 90 called me and said she loved me and she was dying. My brother took her to ER , she had metastatic lung cancer- non smoker. Got her home, signed up for hospice, 9 days later she passed. We think she had symptoms longer but was hiding it from us. I had been there for visit 3 weeks prior, she made dinner 2x, we went out to eat many times. We shopped one day. We could not tell. She was a nurse and would never have opted for treatment anyway. Glad she passed quickly, way she wanted.
My CAT scan 6 weeks ago shows a 31.6mm nodule upper right lung. I went to the ER for TIA symptoms May 4th 2023. Released 24hrs later after a battery of tests. I followed up a week later May 11th with my PCP who also is a Pulmonologist. As he is reviewing my test results from Hosp, he says, "'We need to test further for the lung nodule'... I was like, "what?"' .. They never said anything about it in the hosp. It was picked up on a CAT scan of my neck and my PCP lets me know for the first time. So last week ... 4 weeks later, I went for a full lung CAT scan and tomorrow I get the results. I'm not terrified, surprisingly. I'm ready. Ready to fight or ready to relax but more so numb. Just wish Dr Hogarth was the doctor I was seeing! Prayer works 100% for comfort :)
Thank you for sharing your story. They just found a spot on my oldest lung and he's been admitted to the hospital while they do blood test and a biopsy. So I'm trying to do as much research as I can. It's a little scary but you are 100% right...prayer comforts. As I am praying for my brother I am praying for the best outcome for you too. GOD IS ABLE
Went for an MRI about my thoracic disks, came back with bad news for my spine, and then was told about my lung nodules. This video helped me question whether it's something to worry about. Though I have a history of lung diseases in my family, I'm hopeful that it's benign
I had a large nodual melanoma, it was deep, it was bleeding, had surgery, then had a pet scan, the doctor said it was lung cancer…no I never smoked…had been going to immunotherapy…lot fun that was….yes recode cat scan showed it had not grown….yes I keep wondering how long, I know the doctor doesn’t have a crystal ball, but he won’t tell me how long I have….yes I prepaid my funeral, had my marker put down in the cemetery, had a will and a trust set up for my kids….they are 52 and 51 yrs old….I just wish I knew what the oncologist thinks I have….I am 75 yrs old, so that works against me.
Realised that oncologists don’t tell a cancer patient anything, that is so wrong. When I had breast cancer I had an appointment with the oncologist and it was a complete waste of time.
Just went through 3 months of hell after a nodule in lung they were watching grew after pet scan they told me suspected it had travelled to lymph nodes and bones after bronchospy it wasnt cancer relief is an understatment
I was diagnosed with a lung nodule. I was a scuba diver, diving every other week year around. Divers Alert Network (DAN) at Duke University told me to STOP diving immediately. My DAN insurance was void. The nodule can trap nitrogen during a dive and not release it like normal tissue would while ascending. At some point the nodule could release a nitrogen bubble which would travel to my heart and possibly to cardiac arteries resulting in a heart attack or a bubble to my brain and have a stroke. I stopped diving. A friend died diving from that exact scenario up in Canada. Autopsy revealed cancer in his lung that was unknown to him. He had a complete physical two weeks earlier. When your number is up, it’s up.
While I wish you the best I would like to know how you're doing. By the way: you are right. Nobody knows when it's going to happen; but my religious believes tell me that somebody does know but won't tell; in the meantime we have to keep going and trying our hardest. Good luck.

Don’t wait, I have stage four colon cancer that went to my lungs, this doctor is right, get seen about quickly at least it will put your mind at ease, there’s more chances that it’s not cancer
@@Diplath Thank you, Thank you, your right I’m hoping something will come about before it’s too late for me, right now I’m terminal but I still believe there can be a turn around
You are in my thoughts and prayers. I know how difficult this fight is - I'm stage 4, too. Stay strong. The next clinical trial could be the answer you need.
I’m in England and because of my age, 67, we are offered lung check scans. The first showed a nodule so I was scanned again in three months - no change in the nodule so I was scanned nine months later. This scan on 7th November showed a suspicious solid lump, not the original nodule btw. I was contacted on the 10th November and booked into the heart and chest clinic on the 13th November, the weekend came between those dates so was delayed by two days. On the 13th I saw a specialist who explained I’d need a pet scan, lung function test and I biopsy. I had the lung function test today 15th November, tomorrow I have the pet scan and next week will have the biopsy. My entire family and myself have always had the very best treatment on our NHS, including with our GP’s but if you read the National news you’d think it’s on the verge of collapse. I cannot praise the NHS enough and all the staff who work for it.
With American health care the hospitals are independent. Often doctors belong to a group, which can be good or bad. I have been waiting for a month for the results of a camera capsule test (in lieu of a colonoscopy). Since then my pulmonologist sent me for a PET scan, which showed something in the colon. It's time to change gastroenterologists, get the results and see if there is a connection to my crop of lung nodules.
@@hilda-k4x Thank you for asking. The gastroenterologist said that it was nothing, but I'm not convinced. In the meantime, the pulmonologist put me on a short course of steroids. I'm getting caught up on my vaccines so that I can start methotrexate on Sunday. Thank you again!

Thank you Dr! I love your compassion and your expectation that our patients must be seen within a sensible period of time. The long drawn out process, of waiting for clarification of a diagnoses can be very detrimental to a patient overall health. Not to mention the mental health of that patients loved ones. Thank you for what you do. We need more sensible thinkers like yourself. ❤ kim RN
I had a lung nodule, they monitored it. COVID19 hit, missed my CT Scan went 7 months late and it now grew to a mass, 12 days later I had a phone call appointment with the Surgeon and 10 days after that was my Surgery. I knew it was Cancer, though the Surgeon didn't think so (and everyone kept telling me to be "positive") and was shocked when he saw the pathology identifying Adenocarcinoma. Lost part of my lung and now the last CT Scan they found another one in the same lung different lobe. I am back to where I started....not happy. Oh and I am NOT a smoker, never. Figure that.
I know exactly how you feel….I am going through this now….1 full year of immunity therapy, oh fun having the port put in my chest….so when people whine about Covid, I think you should count your lucky stars….I am not a smoker either, never did think burning money, it is like burning money
@@ThePHYL It definitely sucks and no one should say they know the pain of having a Chest Tube in or a Port unless they actually had them. Will never forget that pain/discomfort and will dread ever having another Chest Tube in the future.
Lately on my xray found nodule on my right upper lung.1cm .felt like I'm drowning .I pray and hope it was not a cancer.doctor reconmend me to go under ct scan or MRI
This was really stress reducing. I just learned via a phone call from the PA that i have a node. Actually two. Have been in shock She doesn’t know size or shape. Have to wait till I can get a ct scan. Nice to know most of these are benign.
My 49yr old husband has never had cancer, we don’t travel, he smoked when he was a teenager. Unfortunately he had severe Covid Pneumonia October 2021 and now has long Covid. He is being treated by a pulmonologist and wears oxygen 2-4 liters. Bipap for sleep with oxygen. His CT shows several 7mm nodules after he had Covid. Never had anything abnormal on a chest X-ray or CT before Covid. Is it normal to wait 6 months for a follow up CT once you have had a CT with nodules?
Hi Jenny - We suggest discussing your husband's specific case with his pulmonologist. You could also consider seeking a second opinion on his case: www.medifind.com/second-opinion In line with what Dr. Hogarth says in the video, the American Cancer Society states that, for lung nodules, "Most often the next step is to get a repeat CT scan to see if the nodule is growing over time. The time between scans might range anywhere from a few months to a year, depending on how likely your doctor thinks that the nodule could be cancer. This is based on the size, shape, and location of the nodule, as well as whether it appears to be solid or filled with fluid." www.cancer.org/cancer/lung-cancer/detection-diagnosis-staging/lung-nodules.html
"Protect you from the internet" as we watch you on the internet. 🤣 But Dr. Google is so accessible! And it doesn't help that I was a medical transcriptionist for 20 years and was used to looking things up (pubmed being the on-line bible). I do appreciate your sense of humor and your frankness, Dr. Hogarth.
My 88-yo mom has a 1.3 cm spiculated nodule and refuses to get a PET scan or biopsy. She’s in the ICU now with her third bout of bronchitis in 2 months. We don’t know if it’s actually lung cancer but just have to worry it is. Even the pulmonologist called it lung cancer. Don’t do this to your family. Get tested and prepare.
I WISH I would get the care you mom is refusing. My nodule is bigger than hers and is also spiculated and I have new ones on my second lung now, but I am told it is all in my head. Even was told at one time that it disappeared. Been medically trransported to so many different doctors and getting now care. Was turned down for feeding tube for my gastroparesis also.. I wish my family was still alive and I wish I had friends to help me advocate.
Ive got a 3mm and a 4mm in my upper right lobe. I also have had weight loss and trouble swallowing. Im 36. Im getting another xray in 30 days to see whats happening. Wish me luck. Im also a high risk patient. I know they're small, but there's mutiple ones and i have symptoms.
Have you gotten any results yet? I am 36 with 3 nodules, 4mm being the biggest. They want to see me again after a year. Thankfully I don't have any symptoms that I am aware of but am considered high risk due to being an ex smoker.. Hope all turned out well for you.❤
Had lung nodules show up in my CT scan about 3 months ago, but the radiologist put down on the reading no suspicious pulmonary nodule. We’ll see if there’s any change next week when I have my next round of scans (I’ve been getting them every 12 weeks as part of a clinical study that I’m part of for prostate cancer). My wife, who’s a CT supervisor, says she sees a lot of patients she scans have lung nodules that aren’t cancer. So going by both the reading & my wife, I’m not worried (at the moment) about the lung nodules.
Thanks for injecting some humor into what can be a scary journey. My PCP found a nodule in 2008 when I presented with shortness of breath and asthma like symptoms. I befuddled the most prominent pulmonologist in western Virginia for years before just simply learning to live with the SOB (not the doctor). As the SOB progressed, I saw a new pulmonologist who ordered 4 CT scans in just a couple of years. New scans show progressive scarring consistent with sarcoidosis or mesothelioma, but my history doesn’t suggest that. In all that time neither doc discussed size or growth, density or shape. I think they were just lazy. Now I know some questions to ask when I go back in 2 months.
Mine went from 1mm to 12mm in a year, was told to go back to my main doctor I did and he wouldn’t see me he had a pa see me and blew me off I went back several times finally she yelled at me you have gas and a sore throat and don’t come back, also had some that were oblounged and one with calcification within the nodule, what a joke
Thank you so much for the video it helped to ease my mind because my doctors never addressed my ct scan and it's been a week, I know that not long. but for someone that there test show nodule it been scary thanks

OK you guys .I commented 2 months ago. I finally seen the surgeon two days ago. I gave him two desk of the pet scan. The nodules are non-cancerous. But the 16 mm he couldn’t find it on the disk and told me to do another pet scan in June I’m getting a second opinion.

A chest x-ray just revealed pulmonary nodules in my lungs. What scares me the most is I've been a smoker for over 40 years. My father both grandfathers were all diagnosed with cancer at 59 which is my age now....... Hopefully, I'm the exception L O L

What about ground glass appearance? I was smoking for only total of 8 years and got diagnosed with moderate COPD. I have kids that are “zebras” with differing mitochondrial disease. If I hadn’t researched online, they’d be dead by now. Most drs are willing to let things slip through the cracks unless you push AND educate yourself as best you can. Google is great IF you vet where and when the info is from. 🥴
25F smoker with family history of lung cancer. My Drs found 2 nodules, one in each lung (3mm and 4 mm). That was in July, I switched doctors for unrelated reasons and within a few days of having a new doctor she set me up with a follow up CT and added ‘multiple pulmonary nodules’ to my chart. I had forgotten all about the lung nodules but now I’m a bit curious. Going in for the CT scan on the 30th 🤷🏻♀️

I'm in the UK. I have a lung nodule - due for my 2nd scan - a nurse rang me today to say that the commissioner in the North West has decided to put a hold on lung scans 😮 So I am now left wondering what it could be, but knowing that I'm unable to get the scan I was due to have. (we were actually on the way to my 2nd scan and I got a call saying that the machine had broken down down, so it was cancelled!) The NHS in the UK is in dire straits. Just a last note - the scans in all the other areas of the UK are going ahead, it's just the North West that have stopped! It definitely adds to my anxiety as I really thought they were looking after me. Thanks so much for your vlog it was very interesting - much love from Liz in Lancashire England xxx ❤
I had two CT scans within four months of each other. The nodule the scan picked up both times. Very small . Just recently was referred for a PET scan had that within ten days of being referred. Nodule didn’t light up on the scan. So that’s good news. Now gotta decide what do. Doesn’t mean to say I’m not scared and suffering from anxiety though . Hope you get sorted out soon

Omg...what an awesome video! I love the straightforwardness and realness. I am 46 and in 2022 they found a 6mm lung nodule and in 2023 I had a followup scan and it went from 6mm to 5mm. Now, doctor should I repeat the scan this year (2024) just to check it out one more time? I'm never a smoker, never a drinking, never did illegal drugs or anything like that. Cancer does not run in my family either. The Pulmonologist told me no need to retest and that I can go live my best life but if I felt uneasy I can retest. Regardles of what the specialist said, I need to make sure I make the best decision for me. Is it recommended to scan one more time to make sure? Blessings~
I just had a low dose CT scan done as a cancer screening only (no symptoms) former smoker. All is good. This Dr. reminds me of the Pulmonologist I consulted with prior to the scan, who took the time to explain that nodules are common, and if found there is a good chance I will be asked to have a re-scan in a year or so to monitor. That's exactly what happened. He put me at ease before the scan and spoke to me like a human being; not a "patient." So very grateful for Physicians who have not lost their humanity!
I wish he was my doctor. In my opinion, most doctors exaggerate the severity of the progression, diagnosis whatever procedure they are publishing is the one they recommend. had dime sized mole removed, no history of cancer in my family, and right away, need CT, then MRI, then PET (which I refused because, rest assured, doctor will immediately see tumors i n brain) I have started immunotherapy, first treatment went ok, but the second I have side effects, I am ceasing treatment. I am so skeptical of doctors, this one seems great however
I went to the ER for asthma attack I complained of also rib and chest pain because of coughing so much was told I have advanced breast lymph and lung cancer by the ER Dr. 😢😢😢😢😢

@@aracelivenegas3797 it's the metastatic lung cancer. Latest CT scan shows "many" nodules are shrinking by about 50%. While that's good, that they are reacting to lupron, it's bad that there are many of them. I was hoping it would only be a couple of big ones and the rest would be benign. Does seem like there are also many that are benign but it looks like I just have to hope that they come up with a cure before the Lupron stops working in 3 years plus or minus.
