This is actually still up on his Instagram, but you never know when he’ll delete stuff. He also posted the verse from this live: ru-vid.comW3HKuGVPwHY?feature=share
Now I understand how you came up with "Ghetto Mythologies Colonise my mind constantly, To shine sonically in the Chi divine comedy I vibe consciously to override suicide inside..."
@@Music-tf1yn most people that heard of Lupe Fiasco know his song "The Show Goes On" it got a lot of radio play but get into his older stuff watch some of his freestyles, he's got a lot of stuff out there
When you see a legend...just being human. It's amazing to see that the man behind Kick, Push, Mural, Tetsuo & Youth...is a goofball. Watching him work warms my whole soul.
I write raps in my head but when it comes to rnb I have to do his process. I play the whole beat and just create the melody and say a bunch of random shit and then if I like the melody for the hook ect I write around those melodies until the song is done. The problem with that is eventually melodies can become redundant and stagnant. At that point you have to create the melodies ect as you go. But the key is to stick to the concept and don't always settle for the 1st line that pops in your head but rather the line that makes the most since and push forward. As you can see with lupe its a constant rinse and repeat until it all makes sense.
For some reason I can relate to this as well from a photography and editing standpoint. This kind of dialog is just what it looks like in my head while I'm out and when I get back to the editing room. I was just never good at explaining why I saw what I saw in the field or in the edit as well.
He literally started by saying he's taking a break from working on multiple albums. This is his break. He doing this for fun 🤷♂️ some of y'all critiquing his process for this loosie pretty seriously lol
This is so relatable. Figuring out flows, lyrics and syllables so that it all fits is like trying to figure out the most ridiculous puzzle sometimes. Enough to make you go crazy for sure. But it’s all for the love of your craft and SO fulfilling when it’s all done.
The only difference between you and the greats is the work. Look at how many takes this guy was willing to go through. The building frustration turned into more work… thats inspiring
@@tecno8335 I usually write the whole 16 bar verse and then spit it in a one or two takes the old school way. But what Lupe's doing here is an interesting alternative method. It means you don't need to have any high level breath control... so in that sense i think it's easier. I gotta give it a try.
@@nickf8247 The diss tracks are fine - but they didn't turn out to be what they were supposed to be: a respectful display of lyrical skill from two top MCs. Things quickly devolved into hour long lives of circular talk here and there, when each party had the other's phone number. That never made any sense to me.
ur not alone man, i thought so too. and seeing lupe work, i was like damn this is super similar. thought i was crazy for replaying the beat so much then lupe dusted me with how many times he is replaying the sound
this dude is a national treasure, this video is very inspiring and comforting knowing I’m not alone for acting a very similar “crazy” when writing and recording 🖤🙏🏼
this is what 15+ years of crafting a skill looks like. grateful to see this process lupe is a legend. just to think he can make a song 100 different ways
@@Beaumont99 not down to paper, but if you think he didn't have 25 tracks across the beat to work out 100 different versions of the song before he collapsed it all down into the track we all know-- you're crazy. He didn't just drop Mural off dome in one take. He's also on record as saying 'my entire career was a warmup for mural'.
This is dumb crazy. Omfg. I record the same exact way. Lol. I do write tho. But you get in pockets as an emcee where there is not time to write. Salute Lupe✊🏾
I didn't know Lupe was a 'miracle lyrical' flow. I miss the flawed concept album. I still miss The Cool I guess. Either way I'm excited to see Lupe in Bellingham come July. The setting is beautiful especially in summer. Hey Lupe! I enjoy your music.
Another cold potential bar “it’s too hot to rock not thinking out the box you know I got the got the speed pack” lol I literally finished the bar before he did lol
I do this same shxt lmao nowhere this level of dedication in one sitting at that speed but its fun, frustrating, exhilarating, annoying because we're constantly challenging our abilities while knowing that we can hit those lines. Just take sme flexing lol i love this~
It’s quite amazing just off some boxing sounds to keep him on track, not the soundscape with a ton of other instruments. Sometimes rappers struggle to fit between the flow.
Lupe I thank God for you. I have been a student since about 11 listening since about 4-5. I have a similar process. I always thought I was crazy. I wondered how some of you legends would get these certain cadences out. I just decided to stop writing everytime and clean it up. I'd record over and over and listen for things and make edits. I lost my love a while back but I have a new boost of confidence and I'm going to start up again. Peace Lu.
He records on GarageBand then sends the trackouts to his engineer G-Ball who mixes on analog gear. But technology has improved so much you can get decent quality sound for free
People don’t understand how long the process is to make a great song!!!! I always thought I was the only one who took 2 hours to get the first verse! If that!
When you care about your craft and a beat touches your soul as a writer I feel like I’m disrespecting the producer if I don’t do my due diligence 😂. Sometimes it’s hours and other days it’s weeks
@@xldrizzylx1153My shit takes months because my scatterbrain ass likes writing 20 songs along side each other. i love my work but my process is chaos 😭
This is my writing process as well but with script writing… I never knew this is normal process. I just thought I was crazy. Lol Thanks Lupe for sharing your process! 🙏🏾
You dont get it if u dont write.. this is what I call magic... that creative process is the magic. Its krazy. Once u find the flow... ball game lol. I luv it
@@rodri1971 same. Its hard to explain. Thats why I call it magic cause. cause when I create the bars I always myself where does this come from. This video is bad azz. Peep. how my brain works. Notice how he starts w/ boxing. To my ear, the noise sounds like a speed bag being punched
he's just looking in new directions with music and not retiring per say. He said he wants to bring rap into areas (globally) where it's not really seen and deep dive into why it's not present and how rap (as a form of rhythm & poetry) can enrich the people in those unique areas. basically he feels he's completed the main quest and is doing all the side quests 😅
Haha its cool as hell seeing im not the only one who writes this way, and im thinking a whoooole bunch of ppl who rap for a hobby (or living) are thinking the same thing watching this, cuz ppl rarely discuss process.
I'm so stuck in the pen to paper method (or the word processor) but I don't record line for line like Lupe is doing here on the mic. I usually write the whole 16 bar verse and then spit it into the mic. i should give this method a try just to see how it sounds
This is mad interesting. There's a guitarist from a band called Polyphia named Tim Henson and all the crazy riffs and shit he comes up with is recorded just like this.
