Three years on Lupron for prostate cancer and I knew my bones would get thinner. Without testosterone there would be bone density loss- but with healthy eating and plenty of exercise did I stave off the worst of it? Here is what my before and after bone density scans show.

Why didn't you take vitamin D and Calcium that's what you're supposed to do when you're on hormones

He did mention vitamin D and K2 but it's interesting that you raised the issue. If you're on hormones and your oncologist advised vitamin D, then I'm very pleased about that. When I was treated for prostate cancer in 2017 the oncologist wasn't very forthcoming with the advice. I never recovered my strength following treatment and he dismissed my concerns as down to getting older. I was 64 and winning races as a veteran cyclist before treatment. I became so weak I got depressed, my hair started thinning on top and my breathing was affected when trying to train. In desperation I spoke to my family doctor 9 months ago and he ran blood tests. He found I was seriously deficient in vitamin D and put me on vitamin D3. Blood tests a month ago showed I had recovered vitamin D levels to well into the normal range for my age. But the big news is that within a month or two of starting vitamin D3 my strength had improved noticeably, my hair thickened, my breathing improved and my depression lifted completely. Perhaps my oncologist didn't know about vitamin D relative to hormone and radiation treatment in 2017 but he could have advised me to do weight training during treatment. He didn't yet this seems to be the current advice, and I would have benefitted. My doctor certainly advised me to do it. I'm still not as strong as I was but I'm very much better for taking vitamin D3.
