Lure Fishing for Cod & Pollack | Effort Vs Reward | Shore Fishing UK

I've had my eye on fishing this mark for a number of years and finally made the commitment to try and fish it. Lure fishing was the chosen method with cod and pollack being the target species.
Question is, is the effort worth the reward?

Breaking news just in.... A popular RU-vidr and fisherman was rescued by helicopter from an isolated coastal rock ledge today after becoming literally helpless with laughter at the amusing antics of the local seals as they snaffled and yoinked his catch. Doctors who treated him report that they had to administer what would normally be a fatal overdose of misery pills just to bring him down from hysterical paroxysmal paralysis to a safe though still uncontrollable level of chortling. 'I literally nearly died laughing' said the man, still wiping tears of unparalleled joy from his eyes several hours later as he recalled seeing a seal come to the surface just yards away to flag him off while necking his trophy fish after an arduous climb and hours carrying heavy equipment. Doctors said a full recovery is expected but that if anything nearly as funny happens to him again 'it could be curtains'.

It's hard to pick up but I was testing every dodgy looking rock (tapping each one to hear if it's hollow) I used just in case there was a lose rock around, should have worn a head cam rather than a chestie to show it. I've spent too long climbing to ruin my fishing. Tight lines 👍🎣

Nice walk/climb to a mint mark!! Wish we had such places to fish here in the Netherlands...what we do have though SEALS. They Rob your fish while reeling them in (for us it is seabass). Now we have found an alternative to get your lure back! Slack your line, (i mean open up your reel completely) and the seal will surface to eat your fish in front of you. When done eating usually they trow out the head of the fish WITH your lure. Seeing that, reel in the fishes head ASAP, they tend to even get it again andrepeat the process until you reel in a fishes head with your lure in it 😉 Best of luck guys!! You have another follower 👍🏼

It's a tough area to fish! Spent many an hour scrambling and walking around only to be greeted with shallow kelp ground. This particular mark has been on my hit list for years but never had the balls to get to it, well worth the effort. But you're right, having capable company makes all the difference. Tight lines👍🎣

That is a hair-raising mark, bit of a climb but paid off with some good fish. It is always going to be a challenge when you have to take climbing gear. Hats off to you both for the effort. At least you were rewarded, and so were the seals after they stole a couple of decent fish. Enjoyed the vlog. All the best to you both and tight lines.
@SlippyLimpets
@SlippyLimpets Год назад
Fortunately (or unfortunately since we had to carry it) not challenging enough to need to gear. I was truly amazed that we didn't lose more fish to those seals given the number of them. Best not go back too frequently else they will definitely cotton on. Tight lines👍🎣

Took me at least 10 minutes to figure out how to get back out, only managed it after a bit of breathing and calming down. @@SlippyLimpets Balls of steel to do the climbs he does freestyle. I get anxious watching him climb even though you know he doesn't fall. Amazing guy. There used to be a guy on tv when I was younger. A steeplejack called Fred Dibnah, and he would be at the top of these tall chimneys, harness free, after a few pints for lunch. Mad. Some people just have no fear, or if they do, they have a mentality I can't comprehend. Good luck for a cracking winter's fishing. Nothing like going out fishing at night and the only means of putting feeling back in your fingers is to dip them in your coffee lol

I feared from the cliff that the potter was gonna lay pots in front of the point but instead you got seals. Hope you’ve not got bird flu from crawling in that shite! 😂 Cheers

We had a the same worries, especially after Orkney, but we just got a wave and on they went. I'd go as far as saying there's over a 1000 seals there, you can see them on one of the drone shots as little white dots on the beach, and they're on both sides of the headland too. Luckily for us they seemed more bewildered by us, rather than the seals at MOG who will follow you around waiting for a fish to be thrown back. Clear from flu so far (i think) 😂 Tight lines Oli👍🎣

I've climbed for 20 years and this was the hardest (not the most dangerous) mark I've accessed and it was easier having company, but if it helps, if you got halfway along then you've done the hardest parts. Worth a trip back?

Best video yet, enjoyed your climb down more than the fishing, superb stuff have recommended this as a must watch video to my friends. One question please what make of trousers are you wearing, they must be super quality to take all the rock climbing you do and when you get back to the car they look so clean and tidy anybody would think you’ve just got back from the shops. Also very impressed with the picture and sound quality of your videos (up to David Attenborough standards) also what little drone filming you did was superb and really helped to make this a very enjoyable watch,well done. Thank you Graham and sorry for taking so long to get back to you. The pants are from a brand called Revolution Race (RVRC) and the model is GP Pro, great pants and very hard-wearing, with good vents on the side too. I know what you mean about the drone footage, I had a fair bit more but ran out of time to edit it all before my usual posting slot came up. Lessons learnt. Thanks again and tight lines👍🎣

Proper awesome job that one lads ! Great effort and well rewarded, always wondered what that would fish like. Never had a seal take a Pollack, had them follow them in when hooked but not take them. They will take the Cod though. Bloke that used to run a charter in that rea reckoned when they threw fish to the seals back at harbour they wouldn't look at the Pollack. If you have a seal take a fish, just give them slack line and they will bite the head off and you will usually get your lure and a head back, works up here anyway.
@SlippyLimpets

@@SlippyLimpets Nice steady start to the winter for me, looks to be more fish and some better ones about than last few years so looking forward to the rest of it. Seems to be a stack of fish further south of ,mate from Yorkshire and his mates having a great season since October, some quality fish as well. I might see you Thursday as i'm guessing you will be fishing with someone local that's looking for some social media exposure, lol and the forecast and tides would suggest a certain area. I hope it's not one of the wallopers, there's a few of them up here that do some "guiding",lol.
