Nøkken: Would you like to be with me in the lake for an evening swim? Me: Hold up. **Googles "nøkken" on phone** A Nope creature from Screwthatistan, you say.
0:06 I remembered when I was little my dad would play this tune on our porch. I use to be annoyed that he would play it over and over again but now I just think of it as a fond memory. I miss my dad
It's ok no need to be upset....everybody has a family member that they have fond memories of and that they miss so much...for example my great great grandpa i sometimes cry because of them 😔 but....life go's on. And that's something we need to except in life...
Nøkken: "Wanna come join me for a swim?" Me: "I was told to never swim with a strange naked man playing the violin in a river, bay, lake, or murky water. I will sit here and sketch you, if that's okay."
Hi, so I'm Pumreee, and I'm dead cause my father ate me and my 99,999 siblings where's the other one to complete the 100,001, oh yeah they left us for dead, i decided to stick with now your my legs your frisk and I'll be chara, now I'm your friend who hasn't left you cause I can't
I know this is supposed to be calming- and it is! But I've always enjoyed myths, fae, and stuff like that,,,but uh... Things that "gift" you things in that sense, expect something. Something like dragging you down into the water to drown you or...keep you... But thats just me I guess. I was right. I fucking knew it. Never again will I trust you ;;
The sound of his voice so kind and gentle but hiding a dark secret, the water where he lives would soon become our bed of eternal slumber, i did so like it where he called out to "us" to stay. He talked about being nothing to fear and spoke such sweet words, yet he knew the sinister plans he had, the knowing eye's, and the kind smile, the whole time i found myself sinking into his words.
Water spirit: so yeah basically the locals think I lure people into the water and eat them but that's really rude like I'd never do that?? Listener: Ocool Water spirit: ye anyways, how about we take a dip and relax? Listener: 🤔 Edit: in all seriousness though, this is probably my favorite of your videos as of yet. Ever since I was little, I've always been fascinated by Celtic myths and legends (even if this isn't one), and your voice is so soothing, especially with the water sounds in the background. Got some real Selkie vibes from this, albeit a less aggressive Selkie lol. Thanks for the work you do ❤❤
This brings back rather scary memories from my childhood since I live in sweden where Näcken originated from. He was mentioned a lot druing my childhood
RandomArtist näcken/nøkken came from both Norway 🇳🇴 and Sweden 🇸🇪 I still remember how terrified we all were of the water because of HIM... scared that I’d drag us to the bottom of the waters to drown and eat us... as our parents used to say.... Good times😁
Looking up the Nøkken as I'm always a sucker for mythological water creatures and wow what an interesting fella. It seems that when it comes to most mythologies water creatures have the tendency to seduce humans into the water. Though all of them have unique ways of doing it~ also welcome back Dall hope you've been well~~
@@PhoenixFlight8D Actually the point of my comment was to highlight how your comment was so out of place. Why did you put the comment on this video *knowing* it had nothing to do with it? You know Dall reads these, right?
Just like he said almost at the end, he's gonna hold you. And nothing stops him from also teaching you how to swim/ "play" with you by letting you go and almost drown but he actually gets you before anything bad happens........ idk I'm getting both vibes from him🤔
The nøkken is a Scandinavian creature he can be found near Forest lakes or sitting on a boulder near a river and one of his favorite pastimes is to Play the violin he can also take the shape of a extremely handsome young man to make you drop your guard and get closer be careful if you don't have a strong will for if you get hypnotized by the music he plays and get too close to the water he will grab you pull you into the water shed his disguise revealing his true form that of a half-rotted human corpse and drown you
It's been 2 years since I first listened to this video and its subsequent series. that night I had been camping outside in my tent with my friends. The atmosphere outside made it so much more realisitic, and to that point I often find myself returning, completely enamored and entranced.
I knew it! i had a nagging feeling it was too good to be true, that he was just friendly. But dang! It got creepy and gaves me chills with the echoes and extran voices. Good job dall!!
I love this so much! As a Swede that loves asmr I really didn't think that anyone would cover Näcken and do such a good job at it to! You really nailed his character imo and even remembered that he plays the fiddle! Anywho, now I know that I'd definitely will fall victim for him if he is how you potray him haha. But really, great job on this!
Dall: you got separated from your friends? Me: I have friends??? ~•~•~ Hey man, how are you? How this finds you well I’m eating a bagel. I have a bad sleep pattern now of writing until 1 am and eating a bagel so that’s my life.
I grew up in the South and I was told that haints (a type of spirit) would possess me if I stayed out too late. Of course, I was never afraid of fae, spirits, cryptic, or other critters that roam the night. I was always curious about them.
So enchanting✨ I’m very afraid of open water, so to imagine it trying to lure someone in is terrifying to me yet it only adds to the wonderful experience! Very well done!
What I learned in school (I'm Swedish) Näcken is a spirit that looks beautiful and is naked that usually sits in / close to the water usually playing music and tries to seduce people who wanders near. Then tries to drown them.
Bell Wolf eyyyyyy Fellow swede here as well! And yes. Näcken is just a naked man by the water who drowns people. My parents actually told me that as a kid so that I wouldn’t go near the water alone (since we all believe in spirits and witchcraft) and I was actually scared to go to the lake...
Another fellow swede, Bell Wolf! There is even a song, a quite old one I belive, about a little girl getting drowned by Näcken. For anyone interested, it's called "Balladen om lilla Elsa" (the ballad of little Elsa)and is avalible on spotify.
Rule number 1 to deal with fae: Don't. Ever. Give. Them. Your. Name Rule number 2: Whatever it is, no matter how beautiful or talented it appears to be, if it lives by the water, run, run as fast as you can
Another water spirit with the Violin is Fossegrimmen. love this video, very dark folklore :D Nøkken is one of my favorite mythical creatures told in my country. great stuff 👍🏼
Excellent job! I was tensed up expecting to die, only to successfully flee, but the nokken using that for a chance to kill more. I love that. It expertly subverted my expectations by not going for the murder and instead finishing like that. Amazing job!
Hi Dall, I love your stories, they are really interesting and original with characters really atypical! But as I'm not English-speaking sometimes I have difficulties to understand if there are no subtitles 😕 Could you add some on your next videos? I'm really sorry to bother you with that but I love your stories and I really want to understand them 🙇
I read about the Nix in a fairy tale when I was little and they were fairly benign (like drowning only greedy and evil people lol). Since then I've been completely obsessed with them. This is so perfect 🖤
Sadae Sparda I haven’t heard that I don’t think? As far as I’ve heard nøkken mostly drowned women (especially pregnant women) or children. Mayhaps the nix you’ve read about is different in that regard
@@hildcit holy shit I got the notification two years late lmaoooo thanks YT! :/ And yeah, I know that's not how the story really goes but I guess the author wanted a mild version for kids. Maybe they just took the name because it sounded cool? It's likely. The story was about this Nyx guy who needed help because his Nyx wife was giving birth and offered a gold thread to whoever helped them but he drowned two guys who went full greed mode and tried to steal the gold thread instead of helping, and then a third guy who actually helped came along and they made him rich. Honestly I became obsessed when I found out they ate people and lured them with music lol
@@DarkwaveMistress oh really? That’s so weird! Glad you decided to write a reply still though despite the 2 year gap xD Oh okay I see! Do you happen to know the name of any of it? Could be interesting to read at some point maybe.
@@hildcit haha YT seems to be weird about my notifications. idk why sometimes they appear months later. This is a record. Anyway. It was just called "The Nyx". It was in some story collection I had as a child. I don't think I have the book anymore, but I'll ask my mom. It was cool because it was for parents to have a story for their kids each night, 365 in total.
Only a few minutes in and I can already say that the background ambience paired with your excellent voice/inflection that this is one of my new favorites
im actually been interested in this being for a long time. normally, a story of a water spirit that will lure me in with music just to drown me should scare me, but its interesting, and makes me WANT to go to random lakes in the forest just to possibly die.
Just some random facts, a Nokken is from Germanic and Scandinavian folklore, although they are more common in Scandinavian folklore. In Scandinavian folklore they commonly appear near lakes, usually in the form of a white stallion or an elegant man playing the violin., but he sometimes appeared as a pile of treasure or some floating debris in a lake or deep pond.
..This is the best. A moment to become curious, to explore a creature - a being I had not heard of before. The script it amazing, the vocals beyond fitting. Excited to see what else to find...
Näcken: Oh, yes, join me, take my hand... Me: *pauses* um... Nope ! I'm not going to let you drown me.... I know what you are! Don't underasemate the power of Swedish people born in the 2000s! Näcken:... Me: scruw it! Hello stranger creature thingy that will most likely kill me! (that's what happend in my mind after I paused😅😅😅You learn a lot of random shit in history class for example about Näcken) (Näcken=Nøcken)
Fuck i love anything creepy anf the music in the begining *(the word Fuck intensifies)* and i *FUCKING* (PaRdOn mY poTtY lAngUagE) love ur voice (again pardon my language)
Holy cow, when I heard your voice (I wasn't paying attention at the time), it scared the ever-loving crap out of me, and I looked all around my room to see if anyone was there until I looked back at the screen and facepalmed once I realized that it was the video. I also had headphones on, so that added to the shock and surprise I felt.
Bruh i love nøkken, he's like my fav lore, we have a mountain named smth like the dinner mountain, in old times, parents said to the children, when the sun hit the top of the mountain, they needed to come back for dinner or else they were gonna get taken by nøkken, GOD DAMN I LOVE NØKKEN
oh wow, that was really good, and i like and love it, i mean it was very scary, and i have no fear of the water, and know how to swim, but for like going underweate with the water spirit, um i don't actually think so, i mean there is no way i would last really long time under the water, and even though it was a nice flower that the Nokken gave me, even though i nearly almost about to go with the water spirit, but thank goodness that my friend have found me, and decide to go with my friend instead, but maybe i'll return next time, so i actually like it, keep up the good work, and hope you have a good day, and also good morning/afternoon/evening too as well.
Me: hold up! (Whips out phone and checks out what exactly this dude is) oh! Um...hey about that...uh...I gotta go XD (gets on the Nope train to fuckthatville)
