“We believe the rain coming down on the City of Tears is from of the water of the Blue Lake.” No it gosh darn isn’t its from the tears of any fricking person that played hollow knight
There may not me so much Lore available in the game in the form of speech but his room certainly tells you many things -that he was into the fine arts and maybe even painted himself (there are many portraits on the way up to his chamber and the painting in his room as well) -his subjects served him faithfully - he may have been quite popular (dreamnailing the dead servants in his room) -he seemed to use elaborate speech (his farewell letter even rhymes I think) -he was someone of status (being the only dreamer who has statues honoring him aside from the fountain and the monument in resting grounds) -he was probably quite wealthy (not just the treasure trove in his spire but the fact that he lived at the highest peak in a city of nobles...) -overall presumably a high ranking noble, possibly even a mayor or sheriff like figure for the capital of Hallownest
I highly recommend the fanfic "A Watcher's Duty". It provides a very plausible description of Lurien's character and position in the city. (Not to mention lots of cute baby Hornet and HK shenanigans.)
I always assumed him to be the Lord of the City. Also we know that he was really loyal to the king seeing how he argues for the upkeep of the seal despite the king being long gone.
I didn’t, I had to worry about my Grimmchild, I took them off after I beat the knights, I didn’t want to hurt him. Like a true assistant. There till the end.
If you’re sad remember that you freed Lurien from his burdened dream, and freed his friends from the corruption. They are now United again thanks to you
@@Bubblegum-Cupcake For when you fight them: There is a chandelier above their arena. Cut it and you'll permanently kill 1 of the watcher knights so that youll only have to fight 5 instead of 6. :)
Welcome to the Hollow Knight fanbase museum, everything is sad and depressing, we have free tissues right there. So, here you can observ a desesperate mutilated Vessel who stabs himself, here the abandonned nail of a true true friend, here a young dead girl who only wanted some pink crystals aaaaaand here's the infected butler of Watcher Lurien, who will never ever see his master again, except in death. The visit is over, thank you for coming, please throw your usaged tissues in the trash.
Also if you look down you’re going to see plenty of broken masks. All of them are remains of Vessels - Pale King’s children, who weren’t pure and empty enough.
When I first met this guy in Lurien’s tower, I know something was up, so I decided to Dreamnailed the little guy and found out he was Lurien’s assistant from the dialogues. Decided to let him lives. Ended Lurien’s dream. Realized the dude is now lonely and is probably suffering from the infection. Decided to charged up a great slash and ended his dream too in one swoop. I hoped they’ll found each other again where ever they are now.
This made me cry. Ouch. When you humanise one common bug/enemy it really makes you think about how they all had individual lives before the infection. Damn. This was very sweet and touching.
...I haven't even found these pair and I'm crying. You...! Are so good at these!! EDIT: Here is a poem my overactive mind spun up, inspired directly by your video. Enjoy! *"To Dream of Love"* "And in dreaming I will find you Only then can we meet As I lay down my head and sleep My yearning heart will guide me Just two dreamers, bound to be apart Twin loves, bound together Oh how we lived and laughed and loved Oh how it hurt, it ached, to seperate our young hearts We spent each today together Happiest in any weather Rain or shine, dawn or dark Regardless, we loved eachother (And that was enough)"
personally when I got to the watcher's spire, and then into Lurien's room I didn't have the heart to kill the butler, I just dream nailed him and then went to kill Lurien, i once returned to that area to find the lore tablet, and I was going to kill them that time, but i still didn't have the courage, or well, the heart to do that and I don't think I will honestly Lurien was/is a dreamer i find the most intriguing and i find it quite disappointing that there isn't much info of him, but regardless of that I like him just as much as any other character
This is beautiful. You managed to turn a character with close to know lore into one with a starring role in a heartbreaking story. Absolutely incredible work. :)
On my second playtrough I planned only to make it a speedrun (yeeeeah, Sprintmaster charm), but now I think I'll keep this particular bug alive. But I still think that even when I beat Vanilla Radiance he still will be suffering without his master. Maybe, not everyone needs our mercy like Nailsmith.
@Yana Pavelko By keeping them alive, you are actually hurting them more. They're only a husk with thoughts lingering. If you kill them, they're put out of their misery
The Godmaster endings can be achieved without killing a single Dreamer, and also rids Hallownest of the Radiance and Her infection. Whether you use the flower or not is up to you. Supposedly, Embrace the Void (+ delicate flower) is the best ending achievable for Hallownest. The Dreamers are no longer required to sleep eternal, the Hollow Knight is released from its prison, the Radiance is killed once and for all, and the ever mysteriously motivated Shade Lord is banished from the waking world. Depending on your actions in your playthrough, the world could have a greater future still. But... for the player character, Ghost, The Knight...? ...We do not know how the Shade Lord, God of Gods, functions. We control their final blows against the Radiance, but without player input its difficult to discern what they truly want. Are they Ghost, in an ascended form, conscious and in control? Or was Ghost used as a mere unifier for the Void, the Void Heart charm a literal name? Is the Embrace the Void ending the worst our character can go through? Is it better than Dream No More? ...perhaps Silksong will reveal more. But probably not.
Honestly kinda crazy how placing one extra enemy in an area can let someone put together an entire narrative about it, little world-building things like that really make this game that much more immersive and overall great.
I never thought that a simple drW animation with just music that plays through the the whole video would make me cry so much. So.. City Of Tears has its name for a reason...
There's just so much deep meaning to this. Literally visibly gives me chills and just makes you feel so bad for the dreamer and its servant who decided to sit and wait, even if that waiting caused his demise. god damn it radiance why;;; a lot of poor bugs didn't deserve what came to them......
I first vanquished Lurien a month or so ago. I killed the bug that was next to him not really thinking much about it. It is a sign of quality that a two and a half minute animatic can make me feel increadibly sad and bad about killing yet another bug in a game where perhaps hundreds of them died in a similar way. Just because someone put some thoughts onto (digital) paper and created this. So really, a wonderful job.
I know it's been a year, but why? What did I do to you, for you to feel that you have to hurt me like this? It's beautiful, and I despise you for it from the depths of my broken heart.
hey, nothing happens if I translate this video into Spanish and upload it to my channel? Sorry if I say it now, and I could also give you the credits in the description uwu
The animation was adorable, even if it wasn't the smoothest, it told the story well. But the story itself was so sad! The poor assistant loved Lurien and enjoyed spending time with him. so of course when the watcher had to go into a slumber, the assistant would be upset between the stress of taking care of the city full time and losing the only close friend they ever had. Only for the Radiance to take over their body and make them lose their sanity. The saddest part is, even if you allowed the Assistant to live, and defeat the moth god, if the said Assistant got their sanity back, they would still not have Lurien in the end.
EXCUSE me I did not want to have the feels today???, Nooooooooo this was so cute but also so fucking sad I LOVE IT. I also love their size difference, which is even further enhanced when I remember that Lurien is the smallest of the dreamers, so he tall but he also smoll.
...now I have yet another "Enemy" to add to my Do not kill list. I have a head-canon that all the infected bugs (Like Myla) return to normal when you kill the Radiance.
Okay but my headcanon for this is that while the lil butler is out getting supplies, lurien watches them to make sure they're all right until they come back
GOD DAMMIT THE SONG- the song- I was sobbing before the angst even started, that song reminded me so much of the them that plays in the story book in super Mario galaxy
