@@alukuhito which is fine with me As good she's all no bra for me, than playing shirtless like Iggy Pop or Pussy-riot like, "here they go" subtle is their forte musicall too
THIS was the song that greeted me as I arrived at Lollapalooza 1992. It was one of the high points of a greatly anticipated yet otherwise disappointing festival. Lush were amazing and they are sorely missed.
Lush played Lollapalooza at Harriet Island in St Paul , MN that year.. Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Chili Peppers, Ministry. i thought it was a good show... tickets were ridiculously cheap for so many bands...
Wanted to see lush and a new band called pearl jam. Hit traffic and missed them both. Still have never been able to see lush😿. Still my favorite band. Thank u 120 minutes.
@@erickrause381 I saw Lollapalooza '92 at Harriet Island too. I thought it was a complete shitshow, especially as far as security went. All those assholes who started bonfires with leftover pizza boxes was ridiculous-- especially when they started cutting down the small trees that were around there and tossing them on the fires. There's a reason why they stopped having rock shows at Harriet Island, and that was it.
Gala, Spooky, Split. Three wonderful albums every shoegazer should have..... one of my favorite shows, Lush in the main room at First Avenue Minneapolis, Robyn Hitchcock opened. Saw so many great shows there. Lush, The Sundays, Catherine Wheel, Belly, Ride, The Swirlies, Dinosaur Jr., Superchunk, Soundgarden, White Zombie. That's the tip of the iceberg, there was so much going on musically in the 90's... People were cool, friendly, it was quite a scene...
@@julianhermanubis6800 i did like the song titled lovelife, on that album.. check out the song out of control from their blind spot ep from 2016.. it sounds like old Lush. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bD4O20ePnXo.html
@@kevinfisher5492 Yes, I just couldn't go along with "Lovelife" either. I really liked "Spooky" and "Gala" (U.S./Japan LP compilation of several early British EPs). And "Split" was good, although I liked the first two LPs better. But that sudden Britpop switch really left me cold.
Love this band. So glad I saw them in a small venue in Pittsburgh, and got to meet Emma and Miki after the show. Just as sweet in person. Lovely ladies.
Saw this on TV as I really wanted to check out what that band with such a great name were like. It was early '91 - I was 12 going on 13, getting into the Cocteau Twins, Pixies, The Cure, Ride... thanks to older siblings. I was spellbound, and saved up for Gala for months - my first CD. Lush have been my favourite band ever since. Between '89 and '94 their musical output was perfect. I wasn't as into their different direction in '96 but bands change, and there was still some very good stuff. In concert they were amazing. Even friends and family who weren't into them were hugely impressed when they saw them at festivals. I also dyed my hair that colour but never managed to rock it as well as Miki did. 😊 Absolutely love Blind Spot EP, which they released for their reunion in 2016. In my opinion, it recalls the period between Sweetness & Light and Spooky. Gorgeous. And Miki always replies to questions on Twitter and Instagram. So obliging and down to earth. Can't wait for her book!
stuff post Split is terrible, and Split it is not a particular good album even if I love Desire Lines and Undertow. 2016 stuff was good, far from his peak though. The first part of the 90s was so good...
@@putucoq3 I think Split is amazing - and the Hypocrite E.P. But yeah, between Lovelife and the many B-sides for the three singles off it, there are about 30 tracks, of which I only like 10 or 11. On Blind Spot, I think Out of Control is really good, Burnham Beeches - good, The Lost Boy and Rosebud stunning imo.
@@unakennelly from what I remember from 2016 EP it was decent for the time. But Split is mediocre, if you compare it with the initial works and even Spooky, which is a record of ups and downs. And after Split Lush is just unlistenable.
@@putucoq3 in my opinion Split is as good as the previous material. I think Light From A Dead Star, Kiss Chase, Blackout, Lovelife, Hypocrite, Desire Lines, The Invisible Man, Undertow, Never Never and When I Die are all gorgeous/brilliant. The track I like least is Lit Up, but I still think it's good.
@@unakennelly each to its own I guess but comparing early material in Gala or even stuff in Spooky against random Split songs makes me puke. Some Split stuff sounds more like modern rock or alternative and I think that is terrible for the legacy of a band like Lush
@@drakashrakenburgproduction5369 That really hurts man, though I have been thinking about swapping it out for a picture of Kip Winger. I've found a channel devoted to Asian shoegaze music you might want to check out; there's a link to it on mine.
1990/1991 were very very good years for music, because were just coming out of the 80’s, and still hanging on to that 80’s sound a bit. Then “alternative rock” and “grunge” started taking over and changing everyone’s tastes, and the 80’s style lost its coolness.
See my life (I've been so tired) See my self (I've been uptight) See my life (I've been so tired) See my sight (I could disappear) See with you memories fading fast And with you it's never going to last You are the sweetness in my eyes You are an apple in disguise See with you I never seemed to look the other way Only to stay, only to breathe Only to see That space and light is what I really need You are the sweetness in my eyes You are an apple in disguise I never wanted to tell lies You are the sweetness in my eyes You are the juice I need for life You are the sweetness in my eyes
Thanks for posting this Jul. Very good quality video. I see that beautiful Rickenbacker 12 sitting on a stand in front of the drums and I wish I could see Miki play that one as well. I'm glad to see that you are still a fan and I hope all is well for you.
Saw this tour in Dallas. Got there early, our van parked just up from their bus. Drinkin' beer with the doors open when Emma walks by. She stops and chats with us. I buy her a poem from a homeless man. Later my friend realizes he's forgotten his ID, so she sneaks him in the back door as part of the crew. It was a fun day. : )
I read in an interview that the Rickenbacker was too heavy for her to play much live, but she used it a lot in the studio. I think you can hear the difference on the records.
Anthony ynohtnA - Agree wholeheartedly with the first comment - on the second, I always had that problem with the Strat copies I had as a kid, but the modern USA Fenders I've played tend to be a bit more rugged - of course, Emma and Miki have their guitars slung a bit lower to make room for *heh hem* - well, you know... So the odd enthusiastic strum could well knock the switch... :)
Yeah, I don't know who will be the next drummer so far but they're back in town at the Roundhouse just like the Valentines did in '08, in May 6, 2016 !
I have that exact same guitar the other chick(not Mika) is playing. damn, I'm sitting smelling coffee right now, listening to this I'm totally taken back 20 years. Time really flies.
While I heard of this band many years ago (MTV 120 Minutes and Alternative Nation) I don't recall seeing them at the Lollapalooza '92 at Alpine Valley, WI.
A reminder of just how *great* this band was live. Lush was the real revelation at Lolloapalooza. I dug this song, but didn't really expect them to put it over so great live. And to think they downplayed their musicianship, aside from Chris. This was tight as the proverbial watchspring.
Very curious...this is a video recorded from a television channel from Portugal, that "C1" on the left upper side is from a tv channel called at that time "CANAL 1" or "CHANNEL 1"...how time passes...loved that band and still got two or three cd's of them...
canal um!!! eu vi isto no dia em que passou e mudou a minha vida. lembor-me de dançar como o gajo de verde sempre que ouvia lush, mbv, ride ou slowdive. fónix passaram 20 anos
@funkmike Emma's guitar is, to be accurate a Fender Stratocaster Hendrix Reissue 1990 (possibly Japanese made). There's little chance yours is exactly the same one I reckon but I may be wrong. Miki (not Mika) plays on a Gibson ES-335/12 ; I have one of these myself but in a different color.
Sadly, I missed out out on Lush and shoegazing first time around - does anyone have any recommendations about which bands & songs to catch up on it? [el'sda2].
heres a few. IMO stereolab(beyond a shoegaze label) is one of the best bands ever for 90's alt music. Catherine Wheel(the ferment album is amazing), Ride(No Where), Pale Saints(In Ribbons).. Ride live at Brixton is on here some where.. The song leave them all behind, is epic. Guitarist Andy Bell played Bass in Oasis for a while... Pale Saints, Throwing back the apple, got some airplay on MTV 120 Minutes..The Charlatans UK and The Stone Roses are two other awesome 90''s bands... Enjoy the Music!
I'm sorry to hear about that. I really hope that somehow life balances out for you for such a loss at a young age. You deserve something good for missing out on that.
As ive said elsewhere, better than the Verve and much easier on the eye. In a world where you would have to choose between Miki and Ashcroft, shes got the legs.
@@jasonsh01 Woah. It's closed? I haven't been to London since '92. "Rank" by the Smiths was recorded there. I didn't know it was referred to as "The Dome" before.
@@alukuhito Yes, it closed in roughly 1997 and the building was sold to a religious group. It is still being used by this group as far as I know. The National held concerts by The Smiths, Stevie Wonder, Johnny Cash, Nirvana and many more over the years...
Peak of their prowess.... So much potential. So many good songs. They could have been the female Radiohead WAY before that even happened, but they got a bit lost and a bit pushed by labels and powers to other ways. Too bad. This band was SO GOOD when they had it going in the right direction.
