Growing up in the 60s, I wore out several needles on my record player trying to learn how to achieve Luther‘s sound on a guitar.

Luther Perkins is my hero,I play guitar just because of his playing and style to me is the greatest guitar player that's ever lived,I'm sixty five and I was around six or seven years old when I heard Johnny Cash and his great guitar player,Any one who knows me will tell you Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Two and the Tennessee three was when I went Johnny Cash crazy.

I think it’s safe to say his guitar style is one of the most iconic sounds in country music. In fact, it might be the most iconic sound.

When you consider the fact that he trailblazed a new guitar sound that helped make one of the most famous entertainers in American history famous….and then you consider that he played on so many million selling records that are still very relevant even 65 years later….I think he should be in the country music hall of fame. I have thought this for several years now.

I knew Johnny Cash had two supporting musicians but I never knew who they were. After seeing this video on Luther Perkins I now know more about one of them and came to find out what a remarkable individual he was. I hope you're resting in peace, Mr. Perkins.

What would country music have been without Luther? Well done film! He is my favorite guitar player, and the inspiration for most of the music I make.

You know, with Luther's guitar style they really didn't need a drummer. He played a terrific and driving rhythm guitar as well.

the Luther years were the best years for Johnny ,after Luthers death it wasn;t the same. Bob Wooten is O.K. but he was now Luther.

Wooten was a Cash disciple. He got on stage and played all of Cash's music, that is how he got the job. No, he wasn't Luther, but the played the music like he did. The round remained essentially the same.

Listen to what he said, that he was “in the Air Force but not at the same time nor the same place as was Johnny”. I wish people who put down Southerners as being just old hillbilly’s with over-simplified ways of speaking would take note. That’s some very good English, which is seldom heard anywhere in the US anymore.

I agree with you 100%. And nobody can make a proper sentence either. I have seen someone that had a Master's Degree in Elementary Education from The University of Mississippi and was teaching school who could not construct a sentence.
